No doubt. His subpar defensive efforts won't help us protect leads or close out games.

First timer here...forgive my potential noobness.

Wouldn't Milsap + Dwight be a bit like Milsap + Jefferson...which sounded good but didn't work all that well for the Jazz? 76% of Milsap's shots are in Dwight's space. Milsap has some range, but that's not his comfort zone. Milsap is shining right now next to Horford as they make a good tandem.

I know this isn't sexy, but how about bringing back Patrick Patterson and Chuck Hayes for Asik.

PPat is an Anderson that can somewhat rebound and defend and has more athleticism. Final year on his rookie contract. Chuck gives you a veteran defensive big that can thrive playing 12 minutes behind Dwight. Good enough IQ to mesh well with the wing players as well. 2 years on moveable contract. Both were well regarded by Rockets.

Kings get Asik who aren't a playoff threat for at least 2 years. Cap requirements are about identical though I'm not sure if Kings have any picks available to sweeten the deal. Kings deserve a thank you anyways for being a trade patsy for the past coupla years.

Carmelo feels like he shoots the ball twice as much as Harden.

Dwight didn't like playing with Kobe, but he will feel like he's playing with 2 Kobe's here if this happens.

If you put a very good coach that command respect like Lionell Collins,George Carl or JVG with caliber players like Melo,Dwight and Harden .Shumpert as a defensive specialist then HOuston has a very good team! Don't you think so?

Why don't we trade Asik for Shumpert/Bargnani already?

I understand your rationale, but I'd rather develop TJones and DMo then recycle PPat and Chuck. TJ is showing some skills and although PPat is a better 3Pt shooter, he's not the defender or rebounder that TJ has shown he can be. I always loved Chuck's heart and hustle, but again I think we've moved on and not sure he'd be as valuable on today's team as he was on previous teams. I'm also convinced that DM can do much better than PPat and Chuck for Asik. Throw in SAC's unprotected #1 in 2014 and then I'd reconsider.

Thanks for the first post, keep them as intelligent as this and you'll do well on this board.

I think you make a great point about Milsap, and that really goes down to the stretch 4 or not debate, but Milsap does perform well for advance stats, i.e. Morey.

I have to disagree with the rest of your post though. You're not gaining much in putting PPat in at the 4 over Jones or DMo, and our two guys have been playing well and look to be developing some. Chuck Hayes at back up center (if Asik is gone) is not a bad idea, but could be had without trading Asik to Sacramento. Asik is our most valuable piece available for trade and should only be used to take this team to the next level with another serious contributor (whether that is a perimeter defender, stretch 4, or All Star i.e. Rondo, LMA).

Also remember that we still have the MLE we could use if someone gets cut later in the season, which could fill depth or back up C if necessary.

Do TJ and DMO help win this year? Not saying PPat/Chuck put you over the hump, but they are cheap and developed. DM has to be aiming higher for sure, but I haven't seen any pieces yet that fit the bill.

Anyways, if you do flip Asik for anything other than picks, you almost certainly end up slowing down TJ and DMO's progression this season. Outside of the mythical Rondo trade at least.

Nobody would trade a 2014 top 10 pick unprotected for Asik. Kings are probably top 6.

    Thanks for the props. :)

Yeah, I have to agree with all that. Makes sense. Asik is the best piece, but I have to wonder if Houston's value is unrealistic this year. Would be a shame to pass the trade deadline with a grumpy Asik in the locker because he was overvalued and be too light on talent to content. DM is a genius though.

Because nothing has happened yet, I'm confident we are waiting on milsap. I really think a wink wink situation happened during the off season.

    Why do people want Milsap?

You do realize we would become one of the smallest teams in the NBA if we trade for Milsap.

    Dwight is 6'10
    Milsap is 6'7

That frontcourt isn't going to beat teams like SanAntonio/LAC/Memphis

    Asik to Denver

Mosgov and Wilson Chandler to Houston.

    Bev/Lin
    Harden/Lin
    Parsons/Garcia
    W.Chandler/T.Jones
    Howard/Mosgov

Wilson Chandler can become the wing stopper we desperately crave!
