I believe that Morey has a deal that he favors. Of course he is waiting to see if a last minute offer comes in that is better. I mentioned this is the game thread but it is odd that Motiejunas isn't playing. He was not bad in his previous minutes and we play tomorrow night.

    Asik+Motiejunas I believe are gone.

    Asik/Lin/DMo for Milsap/Teague

    or

    Asik/Bev for Jack/Waiters.

I have pretty much convinced myself that this is what's about to happen:

    Omer Asik and Caron Butler (expiring contract) to Boston;

    Jeremy Lin and Donatas Motiejunas (sweetener) to Milwaukee;

A protected first round pick (either from the Celtics, the Bucks, or the Rockets) or two, Kris Humphries (expiring contract), and Nate Wolters (sweetener) to Chicago; and

Luol Deng, Kirk Hinrich (expiring contract), a protected first round pick from the Celtics and/or the Bucks, and Marshon Brooks (filler) to Houston

    Breaking it down by team:

Boston coughs up expiring contracts and a protected first round pick for a borderline All-Star C (Asik), which probably makes them the #3 or #4 seed in the East if Rajon Rondo comes back strong.

Milwaukee coughs up expiring contracts, a protected first round pick, and a solid backup PG (Wolters) for Lin (new face of the franchise?) and a great European hope (Motiejunas).

[NOTE: These first rounders are not going to be lottery picks and may not be 2014 picks,]

Chicago, in a free fall and preparing for 2014-15 and beyond, gets back a protected first round pick or two, Wolters, and expiring contracts for Deng, who wasn't going to be resigned, anyway. Don't be surprised if Chicago also auctions off Carlos Boozer and Mike Dunleavy to the highest bidders. The Bulls would rebuild around Joakim Noah, Jimmy Butler, that awesome European player (Mirotic is his name, I think), maybe a big name free agent, and rookies in 2014-15. Do not be surprised if Derrick Rose is amnestied this offseason.

And Houston gets back the best player in the deal (Deng, who they'd look to re-sign), the useful Hinrich (competes with Aaron Brooks for Lin's third guard role for now, but look out for Isaiah Canaan come March), a protected first round pick (either via Boston or Milwaukee), and filler (Marshon Brooks, who is junk and probably gets waived by late February) for Asik, Lin, Motiejunas, and possibly their own 2014 first round pick (heavily protected).

Of course, that would be complicated, and ambitious. What would be far less complicated would be Asik to Boston for Humphries' expiring contract and a lottery I protected first round pick.

I'm happy to be rid of Lin but all the trade rumours are about Asik. We haven't heard a peep about Lin, so I doubt he's gone just yet.

Correction. I would be happy to be rid of Lin's contract.

but why would you care, it's not your money....

On a serious note, keeping productive players like Lin and/or Asik on the payroll is necessary now. If that big fish suddenly becomes available, the Rockets would need them for salary matching purpose. Do you know that the Rockets are already over the cap, so they can't just sign a near max player outright? The only way to get players over the MLE is to continue to go over the cap.

Whatever happens, I'm glad Morey's our GM. I think to fully appreciate how good a GM Morey is, you need to compare him with another GM. For example, I ran into this thread on Bucks Realgm when an insider there mentioned a possible Ersan/Udoh/Wolters for Asik/Brewer.

    http://forums.realgm.com/boards/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=1290117

Some of the comments make me feel bad for their fans. This one's classic

And this phone gif of their GM is hilarious

We should put Howard on LMA for defensive purposes, T jones just too small for LMA.

Since it has been rumored that Cleveland, Philadelphia, Boston, Milwaukee and Atlanta are the favorites for Asik here are my trade scenarios.

    Cleveland scenario (most likely imo)

Houston trades: Omer Asik, Ronnie Brewer, 2 future second round picks

    for

Cleveland: Anderson Varejao, Alonzo Gee, and Kings 2014 1st round pick (top 12 protected)

    Philadelphia scenario (4th most likely)

Houston trades Omer Asik and rights to Kostas Popanikolaou

    for

Philadelphia trades Spencer Hawes and Nets 2014 2nd round pick

    Boston scenario (3rd most likely)

Houston trades Omer Asik and future 2nd round pick

    for

Boston trades Kris Humphries and the nets/hawks 2014 1st round pick (Boston has rights to the less favorable pick because Atlanta owns the right to the better pick.)

    Milwaukee scenario (least likely)

Houston trades Omer Asik, and Ronnie Brewer

    for

Caron Butler, Nate Wolters, and the Lakers 2014 2nd round pick

    Atlanta scenario (2nd most likely)

Houston trades Omer Asik, Donatas Motiejunas, future 2nd round draft pick and the rights to Kostas Popanikolaou

    for

Atlanta trades Paul Millsap, Gustavo Ayon and the rights to Lucas Nogueira

Word has been that Morey wants picks or a solid young prospect and either a backup center or stretch 4. I feel all of the scenarios cover what Morey is looking for given the current value of Asik.

I feel like the Cavaliers will be willing to give the most bang for the buck for Asik. Varejao and Gee seem like Morey type of players and Houston has had interest in both in the past. Houston gets a protected first round pick as well. Morey is most likely collecting assets to make a bigger move at the deadline so going best value is the route he will go with this trade. Just my thoughts.

another classic quote from buck's fans about morey

"we need a restraining order on morey. MOREY can make rock bleed, and hummond is going to need to be put on an iv"

But it looks like we're trading Asik and Brewer for Ersan and Udoh.

What about Rodney Stuckey + Greg Monroe for
    Lin + Asik?

His contract extends beyond next year, and Morey hasn't hide his desire to add a third star, so I'd be stunned if he traded for any player who isn't on a one or two year contract. League minimums and rookie contracts would the the exception, of course.

Has Atlanta said they want to get rid of Milsap? Seems odd they would sign him as a free agent just to trade him. I hope the trade is with Philly with us getting Turner and Young for Asik and some throw ins.

Varejao sets great picks and he can do the pnr with lin as part of the 2nd unit. I can see a bidding war among the cavs, 76ers, and hawks as next week comes around.

Really? You've convinced yourself that your dream trade is ACTUALLY going to happen? Do you have any idea how few 4-team trades are made in the NBA??
