Stein latest article says we are serious threats for Paul and still at the heart of Paul George trade discussions. Lowe follows up with a tweet that says we are giving signals we are confident about signing Paul.

Looks like you were onto something @Clutch when you said it felt similar to Dwight free agency

True story -- I've never gambled in my life. I've never placed a sports bet. But last week I was looking for an online site that would take bets on free agent destinations lol. If the Rockets were that confident they were getting Paul (and they were), then I didn't see why I shouldn't be.

No chance of offering KD the max instead in that scenario and keep Bev?? KD has his ring so is it really a forgone conclusion that he re-signs with GSW? He should be thinking of bigger and better like beating Warriors by forming his own super team IMO.

Yeah, you were right. For how careful and conservative you are to say something about how confident the Rockets are in a yet another longshot acquisitioin, many of us took notice...and became more attentive...based purely on your reputation as being so careful.

And when Monday-night quarterbacking the Draft in light of the trade, it looks like Morey was so confident, that he decided against spending a dime of his allotted $3.5m cash considerations on a pick. Maybe Morey walked away from some talks knowing he'd need to save his $3.5m for keeping the full MLE in a Paul trade....and apparently a sizable trade exception.

Yes, we also got a boatload of money in the form of 3 exceptions to use during free agency ($3.2M, $8.4M, and $11M to be exact) towards signing / trading for bench production. This is why I keep telling anyone not to worry about the salary cap when we need to sign players; Morey has it covered. If there is a possibility, he has at least 2 contingency plans. If there is a CBA loophole, he will exploit it or at least keep it in his back pocket. We are talking about the GM that has pioneered some of the recently most popular trading methods.

No, he's comparing an extension at 120% Paul's previous salary ( the old Max salary before the big jump in cap last year) to not signing the extension and becoming a free agent to get the much larger raise to the league's new Max Salary

In the second tweet with spreadsheet, he shows the breakdown by not doing the extension and signing for Max next summer versus had he opted out and stayed with the Clippers.

I found a scene that perfectly describes the situation.

    In this scene:
    • Tony Stark is Daryl Morey (aka Iron-Morey).
    • General Ross is every General Manager Morey calls.
    • The "unusual problem" is trying to take down GSW because they are bad for business.
    Rockets Assemble!
