Idk about dominating, lol but it would be fun to hoop with some fellow clutchfans. Just let me the time and place for sure.
Yeah this isn't the level of play you'd expect at a pick up game. More like what you'd expect when you're fooling around with your friends and everyone's wearing flip flops.
fwiw, it was hot as heck out there, and most of us were down to our last games, I sucked ass and was sucking air while guarding kidcave9 (nice to meet u btw) my first game, I did A LOT better in but was only 2 on 2
Nice clips. 00Rocketgirl is good, she plays with good intensity as well. Kam you had a nice Barkely like rebound with the elbow haha. I couldn't recognize the others, who was the guy with the 43 jersey? is that CCR? Hopefully I can make it out soon
What has the weather been like the past couple of weeks? I've been wanting to go back out there but the last time I was there, I almost passed out from heat exhaustion.
Yeah its nice when people come in here and just talk **** about how we're not playing basketball hard enough Its ****ing pick-up basketball, not try-outs for the Rockets. The level of competition varies greatly on the people playing in the games. We just shoot for teams and play with whoever happens to get put on our teams. Sometimes that means we get weird size mismatches, but whatever... we're just there to have fun. Come down and play with us in the humidity for 2 hours and if you're still energetic and bouncing around then fine... you're awesome. Good for you.
One day, I am gonna drive my fat arse to Houston to get blocked by Kam and have the neckbeard go around me like I am standing in cement, all while watching Rocketsgirl bust jumpers on my hands hanging at my side defense. DD
Before you pass judgement, you need to realize a few things. It's hot and humid. It's very different than playing at a basketball gym, and it's probably very different than playing in SF. It's outdoors. Wind plays a factor. It forces the players to take closer shots and creates congestion. That's why its tough to play more than 3v3. The skill level plays a greater role than you think. Not everyone has played organized basketball. If I know that the ball-handler has poor court vision, I'm not going to move off the ball much b/c I know he won't see me. Similarly, some players like to shoot the ball whenever they touch it. If that happens, don't expect too much off the ball movement from me.
That's a lot more than i expected for someone that didnt play college ball, but i guess you had a good reason not to. So is everybody else is just a weekend baller? Has anyone else, that has shown up, played organized ball?
I never played organized basketball. I just played in driveways and parks. I was lucky enough to play with bigger older kids when i was 7 and 8 years old. I was playing vs 9 and 10 year olds. I'm pretty pumped to see people are interested, but I'd like to see people come out still.
played my freshman and sophmore year in high school(Nimitz), does anybody remember this. I've played against her; she graduated the same year as me.hehehehe I even got her autograph because she was supposed to change woman's basketball <object style="height: 390px; width: 640px"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/7f61NzbNfkw?version=3"><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"><param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always"><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/7f61NzbNfkw?version=3" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowScriptAccess="always" width="640" height="390"></object> oddly enough she went to the school i was going to go to, baylor.(rather stay in houston than waco)
I played varsity for 2 years in high school and led the Houston area in 3pt% as a junior. After graduation I had the opportunity to play at two small colleges, but declined both. I had lost a lot my love for the game due to coaching style and the way the program was run in general. I often regret it now, but at the time there was no way I could commit to more "real" basketball, especially if it meant going to a school I had no other reason to attend. Since high school I've tried to be involved in some type of organized league at all times, just to have fun and stay sharp.
Wow, pretty much the exact same story for me, aside from a few other things. All of it though. 2 colleges. losing love for the game because of coaching style. and especially the no other reason to attend the colleges part. That last one was my main reason.
i'm not trying to start stuff around here so don't get me wrong. so ok, you guys play for fun and just like to joke around. i just feel like from the discussions that i've read on here, it seems more intense than that b/c pick up basketball games ARE intense. to me, basketball is NOT fun if you're just going to play like the way you guys are playing. b/c of the humidity, may just do 2-3 intense games and call it a day. it would be much more fun that way rather than joke around for 2-3 hours. i mean i saw the girl and she was "into it" and thus she played well. im sure if you guys actually played hard, y'all would play well too. if u just wanna hang w/ each other, might as well go grab a beer and watch football games.
trust me, i played outdoors in hot and humid weather. i grew up in socal so i've played in 90 degree weather on the regular 4-7pm with my friends at the park. all i'm saying (and it's more of a constructive criticism) is that pick up games are only fun if you play all out. pick up games is not about how many games you play, but how hard you play. you can play 1-2 games and that could be more fun/tiring than play 3 hours of half-ass basketball. and at pick up games, you usually play with different people anyways. you just adjust your role and play. that girl would be the shooter on any team. and she knows it too. and thus she played well.
Luckily for us, we are NOT you and we do have fun. And another bonus of not being you is that none of us are douches.
There's a big difference between 90 degree weather and 100 degree weather....especially if its humid. If you know that you can win without playing too hard, what's the point in playing that hard? I play as well as I need to in order to win.
then what's the point of playing? again, might as well go grab some beers and talk and hang out at a bar if the point is just to hang out.
