They're not able to think twice. We picked before them. Yes, it turned out to be the best for their particular situation. Just as it turned out to be the best for our particular situation as well. If we draft MJ, 6 titles ain't happening in Houston. I can guaran-damn-tee you that.
On top of that, our player intro was better than that Alan Parsons Project song <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/W0Q1cFhRJY4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> > <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/aBQalkIeE7s" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
2:35-2:45 Hakeem playing defense like a guard against MJ. Many people forgot how quick Olajuwon could move his feet.
I'm a big Hakeem fan but we have to give respect where it is due. Jordan is the indisputable GOAT, for now.
Easy to say, but you aren't making any predictions. What happens? Rockets win 10 titles in same conference with dream and drexler on the same team? Do we beat la in 86?
Give me a humble warrior like Hakeem, I'd rather build around a franchise center than a 2 guard. Rockets made the correct decision.
Hakeem is a lot closer to Jordan than fans of other teams will admit. In Hindsight Hakeem is the perfect fit, I mean, Air City is a name for a theme park but not for the Rockets BUT I think we can't go WRONG with either one.
Nah I don't think so. I remember reading somewhere that Dream signed with Spalding instead of Nike because Nike overprices everything. He said something along the lines of "a working mother can't afford expensive shoes for her sons." He also didn't like the fact that kids would steal the shoes and even kill for them because they can't afford them. I think his Spalding's were like $30-$40.
I'm talking about the Bizzaro Dream who got drafted by Portland cause the Bizzaro fans picking Jordan to Houston so Dream and Clyde could be Phi Slamma Jamma NBA Edition.
There is no looking back. Although it is possible to have more championships with Jordan. It also possible with Houstons luck to not have won any with Jordan here. It took him nearly as long as Hakeem to win his first.
MJ is a great player BUT come on now. 1) Dream is a Houstonian. He moved to Houston prior to becoming a Rocket (to attend UH) and was loyal to this city, played here nearly all of his career. What is to say that MJ wouldn't have bolted for NY, LA Chicago or Boston? Or even somewhere closer to his home. 2) What is to guarantee that we can get the right cast around MJ? MJ had Phil Jackson, Scottie Pippen and stacked teams. Look at the casts which Dream won his two championships with, I love them but they are not on the same level. 3) Would MJ still be the GOAT if Portland had a Phi Slamma Jamma dynasty?
Houston was the perfect place for Hakeem just like Chicago (big market, lots of pressure, outstanding coaching/management) was the perfect place for MJ. The only team in that top three which should be regretting their pick is Portland. Dream may not be MJ but he is still easily one of the ten best players (possibly top five) to ever play the game. He was the best center in an era loaded with centers and is the reason Houston is Clutch City. Just a truly great player who really put Houston on the basketball map when he was here.
No it's a continuation of a discussion from the Luck/RG3 thread (if had read my first post). It's not an attack, it's about a discussion started by someone who never experienced Clutch City vs people who have. It's about knowing the facts , for example, the Rockets had the #1 pick, so when someone says "chicago fans thinking twice" they don't cause they have no control over the pick. Portland would have picked Dream over Bowie, that's a no brainer. You don't believe me? here's the Draft order. Draft#:1 Akeem Olajuwon Ht/Wt:n/a Position: Drafted From:Houston Portland logo - NBA Draft#:2 Sam Bowie Ht/Wt:n/a Position: Drafted From:Kentucky Chicago logo - NBA Draft#:3 Michael Jordan Ht/Wt:n/a Position: Drafted From:North Carolina
That's right, but nobody outside the city of Houston would take Dream over Jordan in any situation. What does that tell you?
It tells everyone that nobody except Hakeem and a few others won a championship besides Houston in the Jordan era.
Facts: Dream + Ralph = NBA Finals in 1986 Dream + declining Drexler = NBA Champions in 1995 (Jordan eliminated by Shaq) PRIME Drexler in Portland = 2 NBA Finals PRIME Dream and PRIME Drexler = Rings City
Let me add just one thing. What if Portland picks Akeem and Sabonis immediately goes to Portland in 1986?
