Maybe its the underdog/longshot story about hayes, but most want to keep him eventhough his minuses outweigh his positives. Hayes is a situational guy who shouldn't play unless there is a injury. He can defend a certain type of guy. David West and the mobile types give him trouble. Posters want to make him into russell or dream or someone. He's a bo outlaw type without the atheletcism or te height. He's not even as good as reggie evans. If the rox can get rid of hayes and some other fodder to clean up their roster, they should do it.
It''s going to be a mistake to trade Hayes for nothing. I wouldn't mind giving him and Harris up for David Lee,but that's not likely to happen. Chuck is our best defensive 4 and still has an important role on the team.
Hayes and Head are not fodder. They are functional bench players. Trade them only if they bring real assets. They are not Novak.
Luther,Singletary,Ewing, for Ariza Not sure if it works but it gets us a young athletic 2/3/SMALLball 4 Ariza is not too much of a shooter but he knows that he isn't so he doesn't chuck up too many shots. (i think )
Thankyou. The lack of reason on this board never ceases to amaze me. I despise Luther Head with a passion but that's in the 6th man role he had been playing the past 2 years. Hayes has his flaws too as a starter. But as your 11th and 12th guys, it doesn't get any better than Hayes/Head, at that price.
Morey is always full of surprises...more minor trades is music to my ears, as all Morey trades are even or beneficial.
Maybe fodder is a strong word, but neither should have been put in a position to be counted on as consistent contributors. Both are situational players at best. Neither should play more than 8-10 mins a night and that's pushing it. So if u don't want to give the guys away, its cool, but they're going to clean the roster up. They have overload of players at the 4 and the combo spot . None of the guys are versitile enough to morph the team. Head can't play 1/2 and hayes can't play 4/5. They're the weakest at their spots and if they can upgrade, then they should.
(emphasis mine) This is not true at all. Hayes has consistently proved himself a versatile defender. You seem to forget that he's been a major contributor on a team that wins loads of games, many of which without their best players. He can't score, but he sets great picks and gets extra possessions for his team with offensive rebounding. He's undersized, but he does an excellent job of minimizing height disadvantages with excellent positioning. This should be obvious to anybody who's watched even a handful of Rockets games over the past 2 seasons.
If you can get solid situational players who can give 8-10 minutes a night from the end of your bench, I'd say you were doing pretty good. As other posters have said, guys like Head and Hayes have too many deificiencies to be starters, but they are more than capable of the roles they would be given on the current roster. Unless the Rockets can get a young, raw player with a huge upside (like, say, Donte Greene ) or some other deal heavily in the Rockets' favor, I'd say keep Head and Hayes for this year.
they need to trade for a better point guard like Hinrich or Felton or someone we have many players we can offer to other teams we need to make a move Morey!!
The knicks are trying hard to unload randolph and wanna keep lee. there not trading him. but i see what you mean. trading hayes just for numbers is crazy. he's like one of the best backup fensive backups in the league. noway were trading him unless it's a significant deal.
I'm sorry but that was an unnecessary jab at the chinese. America is great with sports, and have dominated for a long time. America is overreacting because they were beaten. Don't make America the Lakers of NBA. Back on Topic: As far as I know, Morey is going for full win mode. Is there any chance for us to aquire Livingston? I see no use for non-role players that are not even gonna participate in our eventual rebuilding mode.
I wouldn't upgrade the PG position. It would kill our chemistry. I believe bringing in one new starter is enough. We are not trying to rebuild. When I see guys like Shane Battier who could be on the bench it shows how deep is going to be our team.
I definitely believe the Rockets -- that goes for coaches and front office -- have a much higher opinion of Chuck than you do. They will not shed him from the roster just to clear space. And your view that "mobile types" give him trouble is precisely backwards. Against mobile PFs, Chuck was our best option. He was asked to guard Ron Artest, for pete's sake. He was always used to switch onto the (presumably) more mobile wing players when guarding the PnR.
