Crap. I forgot about the freaking Mavs. Damn. They're probably the dark horse in all this. Miami needs Francis and will give him PT and $$, Clippers have Cuttino and Cassell, Houston is his home, and Dallas . . . has nothing. I'm getting a sinking feeling that Dallas may be a strong possibility that nobody expects. :(

I think Avery Johnson voiced the opinion that they're interested because they're always looking for more talent. It may be a lockeroom disaster waiting to happen, but that doesn't mean they won't grab him. We're pretty full on guards too if you hadn't noticed.

its just rumors that francis MIGHT want to go to a team that can give him playing time. we don't realy know what his factors are for signing for a team.

Yup, this sort of has the same feeling as the whole Mike James situation from last year. Like James, Francis makes his home in Houston so everybody from both sides considered Houston to be the front runner then out of nowhere came the Minnesota signing. Let's really hope that's not the case with the Mavs because I think i'd barf all over the BBS if that happened.

Maybe thats one reason to sign him...so he wouldn't sign with the Mavs :D

Here's my thoughts. I think signing Francis could turn out to be a good move.

If Francis joins, and Rafer is traded...my prediction would probably be that McGrady runs point guard. Remember, in the past....the problem was never that McGrady couldn't run point guard (some would even venture to say he's better at it then Rafer), the problem was that he'd be giving up the ball to scrubs like Rafer and Head. Now, he could possibly have Francis, Wells and James to defer to who can all create their own shot, and can score the basketball just as efficiently if not more than McGrady. So theoretically, McGrady taking slightly less shots to get those guys involved shouldn't hurt the team's shooting efficiency.

    Here's my lineup:
    Yao/Deke/Butler
    Scola/Hayes
    Battier/Wells
    Francis/James/Head/Snyder
    T-mac/James/ Brooks

Francis can defend PGs, wihle T-mac facilitates the offense & makes sure Yao gets the ball first and foremost, and then to the other players where they can be effective second. It can work guys.

That would be such a great idea! I'd love to see T-Mac give up 70% of what makes him a superstar in order to run our offense! If he passed like Kidd or Nash, I could see it. As is, he's FAR more useful playing 3 (or 2 if Shane's out).

While a good point, I recall recently hearing Adelman say something about McGrady not doing this anymore. I may be wrong...

I think it would give us a lot of flexibility. I'd worry about getting as much talent as possible first and then sort things out later.

No one said McGrady's going to stop scoring the basketball altogether, just that it'll be his job to facilitate the offense. If he doesn't score 25+ppg a game...who cares? He's one of the least efficient "elite" scorers in the game, but he's still arguably the best passing swingman in the league, second only to Lebron. Why rely on him to take a large percentage of the team's shots and not connect on them, when he's the team's best passer and we have many other options?

In Adelmans system, the point really doesn't direct the offense. The post guys do. So a passing point guard is really not important except in the break and I don't think Tracy would have any problems running the break.

Neither Bobby Jackson or Bibby are great passers.

Agreed, Francis could really be a help more than Rafer could, especially when it comes to cutting and finishing. Novak might even be useful if he could improve his passing and make some shots during an NBA game. It's going to be fun to watch Yao in the low/high post with T-mac, James, Francis, Scola running around and cutting to the basket.

I agree ! Plus it would cause matchup problems for opposing teams in the playoffs!
