would you rather have Asik and Lin with their current contracts or not have them at all ? offering the poison pill was the only way to pry them away from their respective teams. You don't get to stay silent during the $5 million years only start criticizing as the $15 million dollar year starts looming.

I don't have answers to these questions, but here they are:

    1. Without Lin and Asik on the roster, would James Harden agree to come to Houston?
    2. Without Lin, Aski, and James Harden, would Dwight Howard want to come to Houston?

    1. Yes, harden just wanted to get paid.

    2. Only Harden mattered because Lin and Asik were not part of the recruitment team. I'm sure Morey was lining up trades for them even back then.

    1. Harden didn't have to agree. He was traded.

    2. Yes. Harden and Parson would still be here.

Rockets will probably trade Asik before the AllStar break

If Asik wants out and his contract is the impediment, why can't he just volunteer to restructure his contract while also extending it, perhaps as part of a sign and trade deal?

The players union would never allow it.

Omer Asik could still be headed to Boston after all, according to the most recent report in the ongoing saga involving the Celtics and the disgruntled Rockets center. Talks involving a package of Brandon Bass, Courtney Lee and a first-round draft pick broke down either last week or the week before, depending on the source, and Thursday came and went without Houston making a deal by its own deadline. But the Celtics and Rockets have not given up trying to come to an agreement, Yahoo! Sports reports.

“The Rockets let their self-imposed deadline to trade center Omer Asik pass,” Marc J. Spears writes, “but Boston is still having trade discussions in hopes of landing him, a source said.”

    1. Is yes but 2. Is probably no. Without Lin or rather asking, we would not have had the success we did and the same ability to draw Dwight. Team that was fun and almost downed okc? How about team that missed the playoffs...

Respectfully disagree. Dwight came here because of Harden and Parsons. Without Lin and Asik we would have had a lot more space with Dwight signing and we would have likely been recruiting Paul and Dwight in tandem.

If I have a giant frustration with Morey, it's that he didn't trade Asik in the summer. Naturally I'm not privy to any 60-cents on the dollar offers that were made or whatever, but he acts as if it was never in consideration.

I don't know why Morey and McHale were so deluded as to think they could make TT work, but they clearly didn't want to lose Asik, and we'll probably pay for it with about....who knows? At least 5 losses extra, so far.

Morey should have dropped the stats-driven, automaton personality and really looked at the chance this Asik thing would drag on the team like the masthead wreckage in the storm that nearly sank the Surprise as they chased the Acheron around the southern tip of South America in "Master and Commander": "Captain Morey, we must cut Asik loose! He's acting as a sea anchor! He's going to sink us in the standings!"

    HOWEVER,

let's not let our panties dig up our ass too much ("ow! ay! damn, that's annoying!") until we see if there's a trade coming. It'll be tough to deal with; we're already short-handed, and the losses are mounting.

Did Morey out-clever himself with the poison pill contracts? With Lin (and his fans), we're probably stuck. But there'll be some way out of Asik's contract. SOMEbody will want him, but in their own time, not in Morey's.

Yea, I stated that a couple of pages back. Murray is probably one of the best GMs in the league but I have noticed a tendency for him to overplay his poker hand. Asik wanted out and the TT only had a small chance of working. Knowing the window of opportunity we have to make things happen it would have been a prudent move to trade him then. Its not over though, we'll see what it is to come.

The second Dwight signed, Asiks value declined. The only way we could've gotten full value for him is if he was traded before Dwight signed, but then you're taking a huge risk.

Morey is just looking for the best market possible to sell him in. Obviously there wasn't enough demand a week ago, so here we are. As we get closer to the trade deadline, there will be more injuries and more teams looking for that key piece to make a run in the playoffs......and Morey will be waiting.

I know that may be possible in other sports, but it isn't possible in the NBA. The CBA doesn't allow it.
