ahhhh, much better. That was getting sloppy...but J.R. comes to the rescue. As soon as I submit, I will rep (but might need to spread some reputation around first).
With the 51st pick, the Chicago Bears select..... CARLOS HYDE - RB OHIO ST. The Bears need insurance for Forte . Arizona/whagoo on the clock
The Titans took Tre Mason. I hear you. I looked at both, but in the final analysis believed the Bears needed this huge, power runner plus he's got the talent/pedigree. They are close, but I think Carlos plugs in better for this Bears team.
That's an awfully high pick to spend on an insurance policy for Forte (it's not like he's Foster).... Could have filled that need with a later pick because that teams likes to throw and with Forte in the mix Carlos will hardly see the field. The Bears are ranked 30th in total defense and Green Bay is the big boy in that division.
The Bears went defense , picking up Ha Ha in the first. CB and DT were high on my list, but there had been a run at those positions. I even considered a QB. In the end, Hyde was there..and I figured he'd be a guy that would contribute from day one in one way or another...and eventually replace Forte.
Remii. I think the thing that you may be missing with some of these picks is that BPA trumps positional need. If you go back to my Steelers pick with Mike Evans, grabbing a stud wide receiver who was supposed to be a top 10 pick at #15 is an absolute steal. Also Hyde has been projected by many to be the first RB off the board and a borderline 1st round pick going this late in the 2nd would be a pretty decent coup for the Bears. They have other needs but again if the guy with the most talent os sitting there sliding away, you jump in and take the chance before some other team wises up to it as well.
Best player available can be different for each team... The Bears are on the verge of making the playoffs and Rodgers is in their way and he has A LOT of weapons on offense. Offensive the Bears can shoot it out with Green Bay (and Detroit) but they need help slowing those teams down. If you have a team that's in rebuilding mode that's one thing _ but the Bears are in position where they just need to get over the hump and Carlos doesn't help them do that...
Yet what are the chances one 2nd rookie CB or DE will be the missing key of shutting the Packers down next season. Like a million to one. BPA is just that the best player available, not according to position of need but skillset and talent. Thats BPA.
At least they'll have a chance to contribute and take over for older players on defense. Carlos will be on the sidelines taking up cap space. And what makes YOU think Carlos is the best player available. I don't even believe he's the 2nd best running back in this draft (and I definitely don't think Tre is the 1st best). BPA is YOUR opinion for the most part... What YOU think is the best pick to make. Look at the 1st two picks you made for the Texans. Neither one of those dudes are considered the best players available (according to the media) but you drafted them.
Hopefully not all lost in the argument about BPA and need and who shoulda been drafted... Arizona/whagoo on the clock
