Don't know you well, and I generally don't like to get in the mushy stuff here as I don't really know many of you well at all. However, I hope your recovery goes smoothly, there is nothing worse than being stuck in a hospital bed.

I had a rough childhood, broken legs, arms, busted spleen, so I spent a good deal of time in the hospital or in bed healing. If you want some advice, I advise getting a big package of gummy bears, some animal crackers, and a few coloring books. It got me through some rough days :)

As for the SacTown money, I would be more than happy to appropriate those funds into my personal account

JK get well soon, be serious with your rehab so you don't have any nagging longterm pain or difficulties.

I had a long overdue talk with God last night, he said he'll keep his eye on you.

It'll be tough, Manny. The hardest thing for me was to do the exercises at home that they tell you to do. I felt bad enough getting PT for my back after surgery, and doing those damn exercises at home as well just seemed unfair! ;-D- (not kidding, actually) But it's important. Just hang in there, and takes lots of pain meds if you need them.

    You will get better.

Why your handle is Manny Ramirez? While I hope you recover soon, I do not like the player. Best.

If you take too much of the same meds consistently, wouldn't your body gain some immunity from it? Such as the case with pain killers?

I know if I take my motion sickness pills consistently for like 4-5 days on a road trip, it won't work for me anymore.

Manny, I am very glad that you are on the mend. This should remind us all how life can change in an instant. Oh yeah, and life is too short to make judgments about how an accident happened. It was an accident. We are all fortunate that Manny is still here.

I wish you the best in your continued recovery.

This is the last time I take an extended hiatus from the board.

When I joined, I was a big Red Sox fan (still am...sorta) and I thought choosing the name of a Red Sox player on a Rockets forum would make me stick out. I wish now I had chosen a different name like "MusicMan" or "Bridge Dude" or even "ComicBookGuy" (wait...I did have that name briefly) but I found out pretty quickly that everyone just knows me as "Manny". So I just decided to keep it.

Sorry to finally respond to this now as I was not trying to "Almu" the board...

Therapy is going 3 days a week and my elbow is getting close to 100%. Thought my shoulder was there too but was told last week, it is still lagging and as a result I hadn't been doing the stretching at home. So, I have been having pain there. My hand is still my biggest problem as I cannot make a fist. Have a lot going on as I am trying to get a job (2nd straight summer I have had to go through this crap) and I tried to quit my anti-depressant cold turkey (bad idea). But things are good as I am back on the med and have a positive outlook for a job.

Here's a picture of my arm taken about 20 days ago (not much has changed):

Damn, Manny, you've got me squirming in my chair. The scar on my lower back from surgery doesn't look nearly as bad. I'm sorry you're still having so much trouble. Hang in there. You will get better, and good luck with the job search, although working right now looks like it would be really, really hard to do.

Is that nerve issues or muscle/ligament/tendon stuff?

Those scars look pretty intense. The long one was from the surgeons and the rest are just lacerations from the accident?

Apparently I had some deep wounds with both my elbow and hand. Luckily, the only bone that was broken was the humerus. But you are right, the long scar is where they inserted metal and the rest are lacerations. When you look at my x-ray, you can see screws.

Forgot to mention that the last x-ray showed a *possible* gap in the healing of the humerus bone. It might not be that serious but there is some talk that when I go back in a month, that I might have to have a bone graft surgery. :(

BTW, staying 6 days in Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga was around $115,000 but thankfully I still have insurance through the end of September (so I think I only had to pay around 3 to 4 hundred dollars). Also, my helicopter/lifeflight bill was around $21,000!

Manny you definitely want to get that gap looked at. When I broke my leg I had a gap too in my healing that set it back for probably a year at least. Eventually had another surgery that put a bone graft in and it healed up.
