About this whole making money because of Lin argument. It kinda feels like another LOF delusion. Like just writing about Lin is giving Clutch millionos of dollars. Because where the great Lin goes money follows. lol

I am not defending Lin fans. But I don't think you know what you are talking about. Stereotype IS a form of racism.

So there is an irrational hate of the actual player on this board regardless of his performance on the court or his personality.

If Harden gets criticized the thread doesn't devolve into a massive Fan vs. anti-fan battle.

And while your disgust about the notion of "Lin fans" as opposed to Rocket fans" is noted, it is undeniably true. There has been a large influx of members that are here for one reason: Jeremy Lin. This is not the first time this has happened. It happened with Yao too (YOFs..) however the difference is that Yao was universally loved so there was never much controversy. Lin's inconsistent play, and the criticism that comes with it, has seriously hurt the quality of this board.

Clutch isn't saying LOFs are stupid, or that they need to leave. He's simply showing that they could probably take a chill pill.

It's an unfortunate by product of the hatred for LOFs. War is an ugly business, a war started by LOFs.

What on Earth does that have to do with what we're talking about?

He basically planned out an experiment and posted an entire article to prove LOFs are LOFs...

Whoah, are you being serious? I didn't think the pic was racist, but this comment is stupid. Because HOU liked Yao Ming, no one on CF is racist? First off, weird extrapolation. Second off, um, never heard of the defense "I'm not racist. I have black friends!" or heard of Donald Sterling? lol

There were actually people on other articles claiming Sterling can't be racist because he dated Stiviano, and she's half black! /smh

LOL. Nice comparing Harden to Lin. One is a d-league scrub and the other is an All-Star. It's people like you that pollute this board and make it horrible.

What's next ... Lin is the next Michael Jordan?

I remember back in the 90s when this board was sooo much better. Am so proud to be around back then. Yes - my real life's personal and professional achievements have been so meager that seniority on the forum is the best thing I have accomplished this millenium. That and knowing who Rodney McCray and Billy Paultz are.

Eh, it's a little more complicated than that. I think some of those things you listed could certainly be both racist AND in poor taste/bad joke. It can be hard to tell apart sometimes. It's why, you know, most people don't do either.

If Clutch thought creating this article would shift discussions away from Lin baiting then he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

For the record and posterity: problems with Clutch's social experiment, or "How Not to Make Your Point"

    • "Clutch demonstrates the logical fallacy known as an appeal to authority. We see an attempt to link the validity of a statement with the source of the statement, as if the fact that Jeremy made the statement himself means you cannot reasonably disagree with the statement. The fact that Jeremy made the statement was the "catch" for Clutch's conceit, but in this case the catch merely reveals an illogical argument.
    • Clutch refers to everyone quoted as a Jeremy Lin fan. This is just factually incorrect, since I'm quoted and am not a Jeremy Lin fan, other than to the extent he plays for my favorite team. The potency of this article would have been more effective if it's factual statements were actually factual and not fabricated.
    • He also states that everyone was unaware of the source of the comment, which is also factually incorrect. I read the postgame quotes and watched the postgame interviews as soon as they were available. Also, see previous point for why knowledge of the source is irrelevant.

Like I've said before, nothing wrong with criticizing Jeremy in my book. Personally don't think he's that great and would love to have kept Dragic or Lowry instead. I hope he plays well though. But I'd love to see an explanation, or a reasonable semblance thereof, of how the creation of the experimental thread, and this celebratory reveal, AREN'T clear evidence of your fixation with Jeremy Lin. All along the narrative has been that LOFs are the only biased ones, but at the end of the day, you've spent an awful lot of time and energy talking about Jeremy Lin and his fans.

Not that any of the opinions expressed here matte, but I wanted to make crystal clear to anyone taking the time to read this, that this wasn't some cathartic, LOF-purging demonstration Clutch completed. It was, instead, an intellectually dishonest exercise to demonstrate, ironically, how hard it is to have an honest discussion about the Rockets because of the presence of LOFs. In making your point, you've made several illogical leaps and fabricated facts of your own, and ended up fanning the flames of the same irrational discourse you purport to abhor. For myself, I've already spent too much time trying to figure out why Jeremy Lin and his fans get your goat so much, and will instead spend the rest of my day getting psyched up to see the Rockets play tonight in an elimination game as they fight to join the pantheon of historic teams climbing back from 2-0 and 3-1 deficits in the same series. Go Rockets. I hope we enjoy a victory tonight so sweet that nobody has room to complain or argue or blame anyone for anything.

Maybe, but there is also legitimate criticism of Lin that ANY other player would get. Let's say we replace Lin with Bev with those critical 4th quarter mistakes in Game 2 and 3. I would've been PISSED regardless.

There are some that flat out hate him, but there are exponentially more that irrationally love him regardless of his performance on the court.

Emulating accents or perpetuating stereotypes in an attempt to demean is racism. It's all about context and delivery. Black soccer players in Europe face this type of racism; as was the recent banana thrown onto the field. If members of a BBS for a European soccer team's board posted a picture of a banana, monkey, fried chicken, or watermelon, yes that'll be racist.
