The only thing that has a chance to work is an organized petition agreeing to boycott the station and the products advertised during the broadcast. Gotta hit them in the pocketbook.

Common Clutch you are better than this - this is downright sensationalism.

How about Hagedorn to leave the Rockets, Murphy not expected back.?

    There is a huge difference.

We can make a difference. Email these guys. Let your opionions be known. I always like Worrell but found him annoying at times without Murphy. He needs someone to argue with and laugh at or laugh with to be his best.
Here's the two cents I sent to Fox.

"I have recently been made aware of the fact that Fox Sports is calling the shots as to who calls the Houston Rockets games.

I want to make it known to you guys that Calvin Murphy's work was sorely missed by this long time Rocket fan.

Calvin's accuser's have been proven false.
It is time for him to return to broadcasting Rocket games full-time. He and Bill Worrell make a great team. They are able to inform and entertain. They truly have great chemistry.

I never realized how much of a load Calvin pulled untill Worrell teamed up with Bullard and Chancellor. Murphy is the spark that Worrell needs to be the best he can be.

Please bring back Calvin to his waiting fans.

    Sincerely,

From what my source was telling me a month or so a go he didn't think Calvin would be back with the Rockets. Appearantly there is still some bad blood between him and the organization due to the whole initial firing issue when Les took over the team. They gave him is job back but Calvin felt a bit cheapened by the whole ordeal. Sorry guys but you heard it here first...

OH and what the hell did they fire Hagedorn for? He was a great studio guy and basically carried Cooper for the last few seasons. God I hope they don't bring her back, she royally sucks as a commentator. She kept getting that Peter Brady "Red Light" siyndrome where she would freeze up everytime the camera was on her.....lol

And for the person who commented earlier in the thread about how anyone could do Jeff H's job........I beg to differ and offer up C-Coop as my only evidence needed.... :D

This sucks, I liked Calvin. I guess we'll have to hope Van keeps the job and it isn't given to some Fox Sports chode. Their on-air people are so bland and know next to nothing about Houston and its teams.

Houston Rockets Announce New Television Broadcast Team

NBA Legend and Hall of Famer Clyde Drexler and Former Rockets Player Matt Bullard to Share Analyst Role Alongside Bill Worrell

HOUSTON – Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame member and Houston Rockets legend Clyde Drexler will join the Rockets broadcast team as its television analyst during home games and all playoff contests for the upcoming 2005-2006 season, Rockets Senior Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Broadcasting Tad Brown announced today. Additionally, former Rockets forward Matt Bullard will handle the analyst duties for the team’s away games this season. Both Drexler and Bullard will partner with Bill Worrell, who has provided play-by-play for the Rockets for 20 years.

“We are very excited to have Clyde return to the Rockets family,” Brown said. “Clyde’s personality, basketball knowledge and team history make him a perfect fit for our broadcasts, and we’re elated to have him back as a key member of the organization. Matt was a vital part of our championship past and he has always had a strong following from Houston fans throughout the region. Clyde and Matt will offer great insights alongside our veteran play-by-play announcer Bill Worrell.”

A native of Houston, Drexler first gained fame with Hakeem Olajuwon with “Phi Slamma Jamma” at the University of Houston. A decade later, “The Glide” returned to his hometown in 1995 to help “The Dream” deliver Houston’s second-consecutive NBA Championship. During his time with the Rockets, Drexler was honored on the NBA’s 50th Anniversary All-Time Team and became the third player in NBA history to collect 20,000 points, 6,000 rebounds and 6,000 assists in a career. In 219 games with the Rockets, the 10-time NBA All-Star averaged 19.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.88 steals. A member of the original “Dream Team,” Drexler finished his NBA career with averages of 20.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, 5.6 assists and 2.03 steals in 15 seasons with Portland and Houston, ranking 20th in NBA history with 22,195 career points and sixth with 2,207 career steals.

“I am thrilled to be joining the Rockets organization once again,” said Drexler. “The City of Houston, Leslie Alexander and the Rockets hold a special place in my heart. Houston has played a significant role in nearly every level of my basketball career – from high school, to the University of Houston, and eventually to winning an NBA Championship – and it feels great to be part of the organization’s future.”

Bullard spent nine of his 11 NBA seasons with the Rockets, including the team’s first NBA Championship in 1994. Bullard averaged 5.6 points and 2.1 rebounds in 538 career regular season games with the Rockets. A prolific long-range shooter, Bullard led the team with a 3-point percentage of .446 during the 1999-2000 and ranks third on the team’s all-time list with 557 3-pointers made and 1,432 3-pointers attempted.

“We're excited to have one of the game's all-time great players join the Rockets broadcast team," said FSN Houston Senior Vice President/General Manager Jon Heidtke. "Clyde Drexler brings a wealth of knowledge and NBA experience to his new role. He's a Houston sports icon who will be able to make an instant connection with Rockets fans on the telecasts.”

“Matt Bullard did a tremendous job last year filling in on occasion and we're delighted to have him on board for the whole season. Having two former Rockets players paired with a veteran pro like Bill Worrell gives the Rockets one of the most solid announcing teams in the NBA.”
In other moves, the team elected not to renew television analyst Calvin Murphy’s contract after it expires on Sept. 30, 2005. “We greatly appreciate the contributions Calvin has made as a Rockets player, broadcaster and employee,” said Brown. “We truly wish him all the best in his future endeavors. “

Murphy, a former Rockets All-Star and member of the Basketball Hall of Fame, had teamed with Bill Worrell on Rockets local TV broadcasts from 1989-2004 until taking a leave of absence in March of 2004.
Other changes to the broadcasts include the addition of sideline reporter Patti Smith who will contribute feature stories as well as provide in-game news and injury updates. Kevin Eschenfelder will host a pregame show titled "Rockets Game Time" as well as the "Southwest Sports Report Houston Edition" postgame show.

the COMETS would be leaving not the rockets.

I feel like I’m taking crazy pill or something. Am i the only one that thinks calvin should NOT have his old job back? YES i liked him a lot more than bill but the man practically orphaned like 10 out of his 14 children. He told them not to tell anyone he was their father. He is a horrible person that traumatized so many lives. As an announcer he serves as a face of the organization. He's an intermediary between the fans and the rockets and i do think that he should be held to a higher moral pedestal than others. That might be unfair if the guy say...had one affair or something like that but what he did was so extreme and disgusting he should have affiliation with any public position.

Thank god Van is not coming back. Lets hope Clyde is a good commentator and better than he was a coach. Bullard is also pretty good.

I hate it for Hagerdorn. You can tell he's a fan as well as a very good broadcaster. I have even tuned in to a little bit of him and Bull doing Comets games. He is very good to listen to. Clyde does nothing for me as far as doing color. I really enjoyed Calvin's enthusiasm and his crazy antics. Along with providing a good understanding of the game and game situations and what was happening as well as what had happened, Calvin entertained us. I don't see Clyde giving us that entertainment benefit. Clyde's a nice guy. He would be okay in the booth at halftime and at the end of games. If you notice, the NBA is all about style. Even the national broadcasters that hold our attention and that we tune in to are a lot of times about having good substance and unique style, check Chuck and the TNT guys and Bill Walton at ESPN. The only people that don't seem to like Calvin are his ex wives, some of his kids, and the organization that he has spent the most part of his life promoting. Makes me sick.

Hagerdorn deserves better too. The only thing that FSSW brought us was a better signal. Everything else including the no names that they have in the studio are worse than what we had before. I don't even know them guys names, that dude with the silver/gray/blonde hair, and all the rest. Can't even tell you their names. They stink. It's obvious they do not travel with the team and aren't close to the team the way that Calvin and Hagerdorn were.

We oughta boycott their audio and boycott every product advertised on their network. Why did the Rockets sign up for this deal instead of getting their own station going with the Astros??????

Don't send petitions to the Rockets office. As was said earlier, from what I gather, this is a Fox Sports decision.

Well I loved Calvin and Bill together - they were probably the best duo in the league - and am dissapointed that Murphy won't be back.

However, I never even thought about Drexler, he'll probably be good as the color guy and possibly an upgrade even. He's definitely better than Van just because that guy's voice gets old so quick, but just thinking of Clyde, it seems like he'd say more intelligent things than Calvin. I hope he does well... or I'll be covering my ears up and changing the channel like with Cooper.

Any physical attraction I had for her went out the window when I opened that site and it said:

    "Go Spurs Go"

    You disgust me droxford.

While I wanted Calvin back, it was merely so I didn't have to hear Van Chancellor any more. As long as it isn't Van or Cooper. I do think that having Clyde and Bullard will be great.
