Is Pap a poor mans Ginobili?

    Anyone else think it?

It sounds weird, but he reminds me of Boris Diaw a bit.

Ish Smith not being able to shoot is a big problem... especially for free throws.

None of the Rockets' centers or PFs can shoot free throws. So that means when Smith is on the floor, 3 of the 5 spots cannot shoot free throws.

3 of the 5 spots also cannot shoot 3's.

For a team that favors threes, free throws, and lay-ups, Ish's poor percentages could be a problem.

However, the offense as a whole runs more smoothly with Smith than with Canaan.

So really, neither one is capable of being a good back-up. But if I had to pick one, I'd pick Ish Smith over Canaan. Canaan just isn't very good.

Gotta agree. A smaller version of Diaw. Good BBIQ, good passing ability. Does a lot of things good.

not so sure about that. he was one of the first guys the rockets went after (once they lost out on their max players).

the rockets will have to make some tough choices, that's for sure.

the only ones we know for sure are:

    dwight-capela
    tj-dmo
    ariza-papa
    harden-daniels-johnson
    beverley-terry-canaan

just looking at the depth chart you can see there is no room for ish. the terry trade did him in. there was already a report saying the rockets decided to cut covington.

that leaves 3 spots, one at each front court position, and these are the players fighting for them: dorsey, black, adrien, garcia.

if i had to guess, i'd say garcia is a lock for his ability to play the wing and shoot. he's also been a good vet for us for a few years. i'd say the second spot goes to adrien who is the only big we have besides dwight to actually prove he can defend consistently at the nba level, and he can defend our weakest spot (PF) better than anyone on the team.

it really comes down to black or dorsey in my mind. if that's the case i'd rather go with black due to his age and upside, whereas dorsey is as good as he's gonna be and still isn't much better (if at all) than black. but will les cut $2M in guaranteed salary? i doubt it.

Yep, I've posted that once. Glad to see someone else sees a little bit of that too.

    He's so squirrelly and ballsy.

fair enough ("poor man's") for his first season in NBA..they have some similarities in the way they play but in their mentality also
    Manu as rookie (NBA) had:

and i think Pap. can have a similar rookie year

Pap seems to get better with playing time. Very impressed with him. Does positive things on the floor when he's there.

0-5. He seems to kind of just chunk it up there.

Yeah, theirs definitely a bit of Ginobili gene in Popeye!!!

I hope he gets a well amount of play time this year!!!

I feel Popeye (Pap) and Groot (Ariza) will be our x-factors this year and if they play well and stay healthy along with our crew, we'll see some goodies night in and night out.

They will eat some contracts. They have before. I say Black too. Dorsey is garbage at this point.

Guys we're not waiving Dorsey. He's got next year guaranteed. We're simply not going to eat that salary. Morey may trade him after Dec. 15th. But he isn't going to waive him.

Harden has completely bought in to Houston. He really likes the city.
