"If we expect to be a .500 team, then this type of closing out the games is fine. If we want to be on the fence between lottery and playoffs, if that's what we're striving for, this is fine"---JVG

    Lucky, Unlucky, 50%. .5 ball.

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but I haven't seen it and I'm too lazy to look around:

Can anyone tell me why MoT wasn't in action today?

And does anyone know when Pike and A. Griffin will be back?

Quoted from the Houston Chronicle:(Rockets' same old habit...)

Beginning with a poorly executed off-balance 3-point attempt by Cuttino Mobley with 2:35 remaining and the Warriors holding a two-point lead, all the things that were pretty got ugly.

Yao had just scored six consecutive points, blocked a shot and come away with an offensive rebound. Van Gundy, naturally, called a play for his star center, and Yao posted up. But no one got him the ball.

Later, Mobley missed another leaner, and the Rockets proceeded to miss all but two of their final nine shots along with three of their last four free throws, narrowly escaping a disastrous end.

"You have to play freely, but you also have to play intelligently," Van Gundy said. "If Yao (posts up) after scoring four or five times in a row and you pass him up, that's not smart play."

Although Van Gundy might have stopped short of jumping off a cliff over old habits dying hard -- it was, after all, a win -- his toes definitely were hanging over the edge.

He had way more than a couple. And if Dampier was not fouling him then you had someone else fouling him.

The two that stick out in my mind was when Yao got whacked across the face and then when ne was going up for a hook shot and got whacked across the fore arm. The former was very obvius as it the ball came down several inches in front of the rim, even the very biased GS announcers saw it and said that GW got away with one there.

Did anybody see that sweet pass from Steve to Yao on the fast break?? Oh, that's right, look at who I'm talking to...

...anyways, if you've never read one of these long game threads backwards, I suggest doing so...It's a real, um, interesting experience. :)

You are right. There was 'a' possession where that happened. To imply that was the way the team played for most of the night is not accurate.

This is not to just djunior, but a few others as well.

Why are some of you fans? Why do you watch? You don't seem to enjoy the Rockets wins, you clearly don't like 2/5 of the team's starters, and you apparently don't like the coaches philosophy half the times, or even the words of Yao Ming on his own BBS.

Or is it that you choose to be fan of something that you guys don't like because you have more fun criticizing and attacking, than you do by enjoying the good that our team has done?

If you don't like the style of play so much that you don't enjoy the wins our team gets then what is the point?

I don't mean this as an attack, though I do hate reading through all this stuff, to find meaningful, realistic, and thoughtful fan analysis of the game. I know there is an ignore function, but sometimes people I don't enjoy most of the time do have another insight that I'm eager to find out about. So I ask these questions trying to understand. Why would you watch a team that obviously makes basketball miserable for you?

It was a hard earned win!
You have to give GS credits.

GS's offense was good. We played good defense and could not swarm them like we did Phillies. They played smart, moved without the ball, passed to the open men and took good shots. We rotated well and still a 1/2 step behind.

On defense, GS played everyone straight up and did a very good job. Francis was hot and knocked down those jumpers early with hand in face (the same ones he might have missed in other games). Yao was weak early but finished strong and hit the same jumpers he missed earlier. Otherwise, we could very have lost that game.

I am glad that we got a win.

The most important realization for this team:

    I hope this continues.

    I was there last night.
    Toyota Center is really nice.
I was amazed by a few things:
    1. They have an unbelievable # of people working there. There were more ushers than people at the game
    2. There is still no leg room. I'm only 6'1", but I felt really cramped just like I did at the Compaq Center
    3. We only paid $10 a ticket and moved up to seats that were about $30 with no problem
    4. Not much selection on food- but the garlic fries were quite tasty. Food is ridiculously overpriced.
    5. Very nice and clean stadium- BUT WE NEED TO GET MORE PEOPLE TO COME! My God folks, we've got a new arena and we're in 1st place in the Conference- WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?

One funny thing happened to me- they were throwing out t-shirts and me and this other guy caught it at the same time and he almost ripped off my thumb wrestling it away from me. I screamed, "Have the damn shirt! I just want to keep my thumb!"

Thank god Yao broke out in the fourth Quarter. And yet, it seems we would have lost any ways if Cuttino Hadn't hit that 3 pointer.

GS put up a fight, but the Rocket's won again. And a Win is a WIn.

So far so good. Keep it up JVG!

i was at the game and the best thing i saw is how united the team was. they all jump off the bench after a made shot or hustle play. i saw yao ming go up to cato and bear hug him cause he was going in for him with like 20 sec. left to play. after cato hit one of 2 free throws ming went to cato and gave him another huge hug.
