LOL I'm with you on this like the other trend. Me-mac, WTF (again)? What about MVP-Mac? The way I see this game, if MVP-Mac shot like he did against Dallas, the Spurs would have been blown out instead of being beaten by 6. I'd rather see him get as many touches and shots b/c it's put the pressure on the defense to focus more on him and when his on fire, it frees up the other guys. Even when he's not, I'd still take him as the first, second and maybe third option. IMHO.
Unless TMac shoots us into 19-61 and Yao decides to quit, let him shoot as many as he wants as long as we win.
I just got in and saw that we beat the Spurs again!?!? What the hell happened? How did we hold the Spurs to 73 points? Was it our defense or were they just missing all their shots? Amazing Win! holy cow! Never in a million years would I have thought we would be able to beat the Mavs and Spurs in the last few days. Talk about the team "turning the corner!" Also, how is McGrady's quad injury? I guess it couldnt have been too bad if he played 45 mins and scored 28 points.
If Ming ever gets out of the "funk" that he is in (a few flashes of the Old Ming tonight) can you imagine how good the Rockets could be? I am starting to see the future.
Lets see, the problems you see is that McGrady, a guy who is averaging 5.8 assists per game is "selfish" and is only trying to get his shot and not get anybody else involved. But I'm the one wearing rose-colored glasses. Ok.
This wasn't a pretty game that will be inked in memory for years to come, but I do love a win. It also looks like Tmac is stepping up more in the last 5 games. That is the most encouraging sign yet.
You have got to be kidding me. I am not going go go into a spiel about how long I been a Rox fan or whatever, but it's been a helluva long time. My critique of MeMac has NOTHING to do with Yao. I was against the trade from the very beginning, i've seen him play, and I've never liked him that much. I don't think highly of JVG either, does that make me a YOF? EDIT: Serisouly, just save any arguments against me for another day, I don't want to bog down this thread anymore
I am not sure how he can get out of the "funk" to be honest. He can only be effective in the offense if he regains his outside shooting touch. Just not sure how he can do that after being worked on becoming a low post finesse Shaq for the last 15 months.
You missed the game?! No! It was great, some of the most sufficating defense you will ever see. TMac looked healthy to me; he made some cold-blooded shots. Mutombo was a rebounding machine. Sura and Barry hit some clutch shots. Ming had his moments (not many), but spent a good part of the game on the bench. The TC was rocking. Great win!
Seriously, does all the "critiquing" you do of McGrady and calling the guy "MeMac", is it relevent this year? I'm just asking because you say the guy is selfish and doesn't try to get others involved and hasn't changed. And I see a guy who is averaging 5.8 assists per game from the 2-guard spot. Personally, I could care less whether or not you like McGrady. Just don't accuse him of something he isn't doing this year. What he did last year is irrelevent when you're criticizing him for this year, particularly in a game the Rockets won.
The Spurs only had 67 pts. They had only 62 with ~30 secs to go I believe. We played good defense and shut down Duncan pretty well, sometimes 1v1, sometimes with double team but we rotated very fast tonight. Not a lot of open shots for them. TMac was not 100% but he was healthy enough. None of us had a great game but everyone helped out just enough.
That's the best part, seeing the role-players step up! Sura, Barry, Ming, even Wesley in spots. Howard and Mo even contribute. Now we need to get Yao going and the Rockets will be a serious player this season!
Its called drawing up a game-plan and sticking to it. It just so happens that both teams are experts at trapping off the pick and roll, and denying comfortable post-up games to either team. Its no secret that the difference-maker in these first two games has been T-Mac. He's the only player on either team who can simply get a good shot whenever he wants. Yao and Duncan rely on not getting doubled in the post and good entry passes.... Parker and Ginobili rely on the pick and roll like crazy... and Sura, Barry, Wesley, Bowen, and Brown do nothing but hit wide open shots off passes.
Rocks, I've always called him MeMac, I'm not going to change my opion of a guy's career just because of a stretch of games. At the end of the year, if he's kept up his intensity and setting up his teammates, my opinion will change then. But as of right now, I'm not going to change my mind based on 30 games, no matter how contrary to the popular opinion it may seem.
