well damn…I was thinking it was some inside joke this whole time tonight is the 1st time I’ve ever put Garuba in a google search
The pick and roll is definitely the most used play in basketball. No argument there. This is the problem I have with spamming the KPJ pick and roll: He doesn’t have the foot-speed to get all the way to the basket consistently. His preferred move is to snake the pick, get back to the middle and put the defender in jail but his mid range isn’t strong enough for that to threaten the defense. The defense isn’t compromised enough for a weak side shooter to get open or for the rim protector to commit to him, thus no advantage gained. On those occasions when the weakside shooter IS open, KPJ doesnt recognize the pass in time or at all. He takes forever to initiate the offense. We have guys who thrive in transition and yet we don’t do it. … We can MIX IN KPJ pick and rolls with other sets to develop him AND other players too. So much of young players development is tied to confidence and effort. Standing around watching KPJ “cook” doesnt win us games or help our players get better.
Nix was a legitimately good facilitator in the G-league, our assistant coach witnessed that first hand, we could really use a solid passer but for whatever reason Nix isn’t translating well
Agreed on all points, I havent watched every game, but I think tonights game definitely had a mix of things like we wanted, wasnt perfect but it was pretty alright.
I think he's too slow to be this unathletic in the NBA. He's also honestly pretty chubby for a professional player.
