I actually hardly ever post after a game. But i'm just venting because I'm just tired of watching YAO in the past couple of games just play well under expectations. And the only reason there ARE expectations in the first place is because we have all seen glimpses of what YAO can do. If only he can bring it every game win or lose.....
I basically think Yao hasn't been husling for the ball as of late. It seems as if his motivation level isn't exactly up there. Its just something he is going to have to learn in order to become one of the greats like Duncan or KG. He needs to stop worryin about the ticky tack fouls and play with more heart.
I'm not sure; as for today -- it was not just a matter of effort. The Spur guards are just better basketball players. Plus, I thought the whole team sort of "gave up" at around the 4 to 3 minute mark. You pose a reasonable question though, why don't the Rockets "bring it every single game?" JVG has been asking the same question all season. I'm not going to freak out over this game -- Spurs with or without Duncan are very tough at home, especially defensively. They put together a complete game, effort and defensively.
Padgett, Mutombo, Ryan Bowen..those guys play..but Padgett is off sometimes. Mutombo has weaknesses like no inside scoring presence or very minimal..same with Ryan Bowen no shot. Now Wesley and Barry..and Sura..just old and couldn't play well in the crucial minutes..James..:/ James can drive and create and stuff..but can't do taht desperately in the end..needs to do that earlier We should have won lol disappointing horrible game
Ok Manu is good I'll give you that. He's a very good creator, a little annoying because he always seems to kill the rockets. But anyhow, you really think parker and manu are better than sura/james/wes/barry?? I find that hard to agree with.....
Well, I have a suggestion then: tell me what did Yao have more of this season so far, dominating performances or lackluster performances? May be this will lower your expectations a bit. Yao is JUST not there yet, he has plenty of development as a player to go through, and as I said, it will be a looooong ride, so might as well enjoy it. Meanwhile, we have to accept some things about him that won't likely change: mainly that his stamina won't likely improve much from now, and fatigue will always be a factor in his game whether he rests over the summer or not.
Yes, Manu and Parker are better than any combination of the 4 Rocket guards. This is not a huge negative towards the Rocket guards, but Manu puts so much pressure on you defensively and offensively.
I wouldn't say either is better. Both sides do different things. Parker and Manu are big time penetrators and create shots for themselves or pass out to an open man to get good looks. Our guards except for maybe james can create a shot and penetrate...the rest of them are shooters and need other guys to get them open looks.... Manu and Paker just break down the Houston Defense and make us foul them or leave someone like Bowen or Barry open for looks which killed us today.
Well, believe it or not, it's BECAUSE Yao has had MORE lackluster performances this year that I as a fan have EVEN HIGHER EXPECTATIONS, lest the disappointment. No doubt he has gotten better every year, but the worse he plays the more I expect out of him....and I think this is because I just feel deep down he is a special player and will amount to it and bring the rockets a ring.
And why not? Isn't Yao supposed/proclaimed to be the next big thing? Yao brings national/international attention to Rockets and Houston, brings hot topics and thought-provoking discussions to this forum, and keeps Clutch BBS more vibrant, both literally and financially. Whether you are a YF, YOF, YOH, or a YF-turned-I-am-starting-to-give-up-on-him, you feel Yao is the glue to this BBS. I bet you if Yao is traded to another team, you won't easily have a lot posters to kick around.
yeah but not every loss has something to do with him soley. The whole team played like crap with the exception of McGrady and Deke at times.... Everyone needs to get a blame and the bashing of everything Yao does is really annoying...the team let us down they lost so everyone is subject to the blame... I understand that Yao is a star on this team and will get more scrutiny but he is not the reason for every loss and all his mistakes are not the casue of every loss...everyone did stupid crap and didn't play well today..
It doesn't break down like that. Manu and Parker will face ONLY two of our guards at any given moment. So DEFINITELY yes Manu/Parker are three times better than anything we have to offer in our backcourt. Manu doesn't just play well against the Rocket, he is a fast rising star and has an unorthodox way of playing b-ball, yet entertaining at the same time. I have always thought that Dallas and SAntonio are have much better scouts overseas than we do, for some odd reason. And that excellent scouting is showing dividends. Rockets' scouting in Europe has NOTHING to show for (except a pickup of a bust like Nachbar, so you get my point). I gotta tell you, NO TEAM in ANY sports franchise in the last 5+ years had done better than the Spurs front office. That is one solid organization. San Antonio fans are lucky to have such quality front office to manage their team.
Yahoo headline reads: Spurs go on 21-2 run, top Rockets 83-70 remember there is no "I" in team....nor Yao for that matter.
Hmm that sounds very similar to our game plan whenever the ROCKETS are rolling and winning. Don't we utilize the same scheme with our shooters and penetrators whenever we play a good game? And secondly, if parker and MANU can break down the houston defense, why can't our guards do the same to the spurs?
I don't know why you called Yao's effort lackluster today. Fighting with 3 or 4 guys in the post constantly. Coming out and help trap Ginobili and other guards all the time, also rotate to pick up open man. Rolling on the floor several times after people just plain push and shove him. Going after the loose ball. Getting hit at the face, then just run back upcourt to defend. Setting picks after picks to free up guys in the parimeter. Going hard to box out the spurs for defensive rebound. I understand if you critize Yao's game being a subpar performance, but don't show passion with all the showboating fist pumping and finger wagging doesn't mean he did not play his butts off.
I agreed with you Spurs are great at getting talents, so even after guys retire they have need blood that filled in nicely. They also find complementary players. I'm really happy with Yao and TMac being still really young. The rest of our rosters are filled with guys that have experienced but in a few year when Yao and TMac hit their prime, we will probably needs to have more young guns.
We are able to do it to other teams cause their defenses are weak. The spurs have a superior defense and can stop us from breaking them down. Paker and Manu are much better penetrators then our guards are and both have good speed off the dribble. James is fast and of course McGrady did his job breaking the defense down but no one hit shots when they were given looks or the Spurs defense caused turnovers. Overall when i watch games i don't see much penetration by our guards as much as i see it just from McGrady. The rest of our guards don't really do it all that much even in other games...not as much as Manu and Tony do. That's the nature of their game. Our guards are more shooters than penetrators.
I just feel like Yao is always on the receiving end of a physical game. Those points you just made make it seem like that. Why can't YAO stay off of the floor? That just makes him look like he's being OWNED, thus making his effort look lackluster.
