Tracy McGrady's team-high 21 points lifted the Houston Rockets over the San Antonio Spurs 95-87 Saturday at the SBC center in San Antonio, Texas. Houston improves to 3-0 on the preseason while San Antonio drops to 0-4. McGrady's damage came all in the first half before exiting after taking a charge with 2:34 remaining before halftime. Saturday also marked the debut of Stromile Swift who showed signs of why the Rockets brought him in over the off-season chipping in 15 points and three blocks. With Yao Ming out of the lineup with a toe injury, Swift stepped up in the paint with he and McGrady combining for 30 of Houston's first 39 points. San Antonio began the first quarter on a 7-0 run but then McGrady went to work snaking himself around and through a Spur defense that has yet to gel this preseason. T-Mac poured in 11 straight points for the Rockets in a myriad of ways. Six of the points came via the charity stripe, two on a jumper, and three courtesy of the three point line. McGrady was an efficient 7-11 from the field on the night. The Spurs clung to their shrinking lead for most of the first quarter until a Jon Barry pull up jumper gave the Rockets the lead for the first time just before the end of the period. They would never surrender it. Swift started the scoring for the Rockets in the second quarter with a trip to the free throw line after powering his way inside against what seemed to be an overmatched San Antonio front court. Swift and McGrady scored the first 14 points of the second quarter before Juwan Howard hit a jumper to make the score 41-33. Howard looked solid again as the starting power forward adding 12 to the scoring column on 4-8 shooting. Dikembe Mutombo, who started in the place of an injured Yao, also impressed pulling down 11 rebounds. The 39-year old center also chipped in three blocks and seven points as he teamed with Swift to give the Spurs fits for much of the night around the basket. ...especially after McGrady was hit in the chest removing him from action. The second half was dominated by the two benches as neither team seemed to want to risk injury to any key players especially after McGrady was hit in the chest removing him from action. Swift was also sent to the bench in the first half after getting hit with the business end of a Dikembe Mutombo elbow. He would return in the second half and looked unaffected. Tim Duncan led the Spurs with 19 points and six rebounds and San Antonio would pull as close as two in the second half at 75-73 midway through the third quarter but two straight three pointers by Luther Head, who got his first start of the preseason Saturday, thwarted any San Antonio comeback plans. Lonnie Baxter highlighted a second half which saw healthy bench contributions as the newcomer was a perfect 3-3 from the floor for six points and pulled down two rebounds in just 11 minutes. Derek Anderson chipped in 13 with plenty of action in the backcourt and was perfect at the foul line going 6-6. The Rockets return to action Monday as they take on the Seattle Supersonics in Laredo. The game can be seen live starting at 7:30 p.m. on Fox Sports Net. BAHAHWHWQHAAhA look at tmac's pic (#10) on rockets.com
It will become an issue if SS doesn't buy into JVGs program. If SS doesn't give 100% on both ends I wouldn't expect him to be our starting PF come opening day. I hope JVG has more success than Fratello/Brown in reaching the kid but after 5 years I wonder.
quick primer: 1) google and download azureus or bitcomet(easiest client for beginners) 2) install the client and install the codec(see my game file thread for link) 3)download the torrent file(linked above adn in my game file thread) when you download the torrent file(small file pointing to the main video file) it will ask if you want to save it or open it with a program...if you choose to save it..you will need to double click it to activate your bittorrent program...if you decide to let it open with a program when downloading it....make sure you tell it to use whichever client you installed. 4) at this time your bittorrent program(client) will begin downloading the video file. after however many hours it takes(not as long for the highlights)...you can then open the video file(it will be a avi) and watch it. PS) Check my game file thread for recommended video watching programs...using these will ensure you dont have problems that certain programs(RP, QT, WMP) always seem to cause watching these videos any other questions....post them in the game file thread so others can help you.... bigballa.....just giving ya a hard time man...no offense taken.
Well the key to developing SS is that not only will JVG yell at him BUT TMAC, JBerry, etc.. will be there to lay down the law. That's the difference between houston and memphis. Memphis doesnt have the player leadership structure that houston has. I expect peer pressure to be a fairly effective in getting SS to get into shape and play 100%
I agree, his days were numbered anyway. Head may pick up time, but we have others. I disagree, his $6 mil + Mooch's $3 mil expiring contracts will become very valuable to teams trying to clear cap space at trade deadline time. IMO our management has played their cards exactly right. I tend to agree, but I'm withiholding exaltation until SS and Yao play together and we see Skip play with the big boys. I feel a lot better about this team than last year's team, even the ending one. BTW: I still think we use our vacant slot for another BIG.
I doubt SS would have jumped from the proverbial frying pan into the fire if he planned on loafing through his contract. Plenty of other teams would have payed as much or more to have him decorate their line-up and he could have coasted. When he came here I think it made a statement that he wanted to play hard and fast with a winning program. Just a guess, however.
Agreed...even if it IS preseason, beating SA without Yao or Rafer (as well as TMac and DA for a half) is impressive... Moochie's been really impressing me...it seems like his game has matured and he understands how to run a team now
