Yao, the fans also don't understand the fouls. You are not the only one.

Am I a homer by saying this,......with help from referees.

My high-school coach always used to put up five keys to winning before every game: one of them was "Make more free-throws than the other team takes."

Mission accomplished for the Sonics tonight.

It was a difficult game to cheer for the Rockets, and it was pretty obvious from the first few defensive possessions we weren't too concerned about winning tonight.

As for the refereeing: it happens sometimes. Give credit to the Sonics, they were more agressive at the onset, got away with a few and kept pounding away. NBA refs aren't even close to perfect, and the people who say that the best basketball league should have the best officiating should realize just how difficult a job it is. These athletes move incredibly quickly and forcefully, and without consistent stoppages in play, like in baseball and football, instant replay is virtually impossible. As evidenced by the officiating in the Olympics and World Championships, even the best refs in the world can't call a game properly.

These thoughts are probably too rational for a game thread, since, if most of you are like me, you can't think straight after such an infuriating loss. But I just wanted to step up in defense of those refs, considering I might have to do it at the local Boys and Girls Club this summer...

    Rockets lifeless in Seattle

The Rockets finally admitted it. They provided the something else on Tuesday, finally giving in with a vivid demonstration that they are ready to start planning for the lottery.

With a disinterested start and only rare moments of defensive intensity, the Rockets trailed from start to finish in losing to the Seattle SuperSonics 104-87 at KeyArena.

"When you don't put enough into it, and you're small and you have guys fighting for their NBA lives but don't know it, so you're undertalented and outworked, that's a bad combination," Rockets coach Jeff Van Gundy said. "We played a very, very soft, non-contact game. We had (Chris) Wilcox jumping over us all game, no block-out, drives, nobody putting their body in front, taking soft fouls, unnecessary fouls."

First quarter, we got totally outplayed," Rockets forward Juwan Howard said. "We came out with no energy. They didn't feel us defensively. They got anything they wanted. We tried to make some runs.

"I point the finger at myself for not setting the tone defensively against Wilcox. We allowed him to get out early and dominate the paint inside. Yao (Ming) tried to carry us offensively, but he can only do so much. We didn't give him any help."

Are we tired of this statement after every game we lost? I am.

I agree that the referees messed up in that game and they screw up with us almost every single game... but 22 to 38 is not all referees..22 to 38 tells you that we are settling for the outside jumpers which we suck in so bad.. and nobody is driving to the basket or scoring in the paint except for Yao which is getting hammered in the post everytime he catches the ball... but if the other players dont help him by hitting their J's and driving to the basket, they are not going to call fouls for us.. :(

I haven't understood Van Gundy's rotation since halfway through the season concerning JH. I've said it a thousand times. Yao and JH together is TERRIBLE. It's the worst front court combination on this team.

I don't totally agree that Stro is okay with Yao. Yeah, he is an improvement over JH but he's not okay. He's just a lot less negative for the most part. I didn't track the +/- numbers on last night's game but it sure looked like Stro was lost out there. I think he's gone.

    JH won't be gone because:

    1. He is Van Gundy's latest pet.

    2. He has negative trade value. What could we possibly get for him, Foyle? We'd just have to take out some other team's trash.
