    This is basically the relationship between every coach and GM.

    It's why its always bad to mix the two.

    Coaches will always care little about potential and will be willing to sell low on potential for a player that can contribute right now today. For the coach, winning is what helps his career. It doesn't help Ime to be told the team will be good 3 years from now because he knows there's a chance he won't be here 3 years from now.

    Meanwhile GMs are given that longer leash because their reputations are based on the moves they make. Even if Stone is fired tomorrow if this team as is right now went on to win a ring 4 years from now people will say "That's the team Stone built." and GMs have to worry about how the team will look years down the line or if every guy Stone picked ends up being all-stars then it looks good on his record.

    Best example of this is the Warriors actually. Warriors GM gets all the credit for that dynasty, no one credits Mark Jackson for the development of Curry or anything. Jackson can't even get a job. Same for Jerry West, he gets a lot of credit for teams he built in the past.

    So, yeah. I feel like this is normal for most coaches and GM. Just the nature of the business and when you make the coach the GM usually messes with your team because the coach will sit there trading every asset away they can just to sneak into the playoffs.
