    Read this excerpt from the official NBA rule book:

    Section I-A Player Shall Not:
    a. Touch the ball or the basket ring when the ball is using the basket ring as its lower base.
    EXCEPTION: If a player near his own basket has his hand legally in contact with the ball, it is not a violation if his contact with the ball continues after the ball enters the cylinder, or if, in such action, he touches the basket.
    b. Touch the ball when it is above the basket ring and within the imaginary cylinder.
    c. For goaltending to occur, the ball, in the judgment of the official, must have a chance to score.

    It looked like a stupid play because he mistimed the jump. He should have jumped earlier.

    As for why he jumped, it's because he's running low on stamina. He's simply tired out there and making poor decisions because he is winded.

    Rick Alderman needs to cut down Yao's minutes to give Yao more rest. Yao is playing horribly when he is not fresh.

    He dropped his shooting percentage because he's been attempting jumpers which is a key in Rick Aldeman's system. No matter how bad it is, he's still leading the team in that stat. Relax, he'll get better.

    Look at our pathetic record, we need him to be more efficient at shooting particularly when he is a C while we also have another star that is sometimes a chucker shooting in the 30%s. To have a C shooting poorly and a chucker as well is doom for this team. The opportunities that Ming's gets in the low post he should be more accurate and try harder as he is getting far less low post play this season. This will give more confidence for the coach to move him away from these low % high post plays he has him taking.

    Does that not make sense?

    Why? So we can get lit up on the defensive end?

    That lineup would get schooled by the Pistons starters. If they are out there for 10-12 minutes consecutively, they will have to face Detroit's starters.

    What's Yao thinking for the last goal-tend? Yao's 5 feet away from Rip and the ball is definitely short. Jesus! 2 free points to the Pistons.

    uhh... he didn't miss too many easy shots. most of shots he missed were contested. the only open ones were out 15 feet. and as JVG put it, yao's a below average shooter outside of 15 feet. so those are really easy shots for him and we're seeing proof of that now.

    It was a bad call by the refs. The ball was gonna miss everything even if Yao didn't touch it.

    That was not goaltending.
