Denver scored 27 points off 21 Rocket turnovers. Theres the game right there. Take care of the ball on offense and the defense looks much better.

First of all after this game, I can't believe someone is actually complaining about the offense when the defense was as terrible as it was tonight. I can't think of a single player on the Rockets that played even decent D tonight.

And as for this back to back crap ... I don't want to hear any of that. This was a huge game for the Rox and they should have been able to get up for it. The Lakers are all OLD and they sure didnt have any problems playing tonight as they took it to a hot Seattle team on the road.

The first thing this team needs to get is some Heart, then maybe they fool some people into thinking it has a brain.

My level of disgust and disappointment with Steve Francis has hit a seething all time high. He's our five year veteran "leader" and still doesn't have a clue, with the basketball IQ of a tree frog. As the saying goes:

    ** Lead - he can't
** Follow - he wont', or
** Get out of the way - that's management's job

I didn't see the game, but it sounds like the "same old story," turnovers, turnovers, turnovers. It is simply very hard to win on the road (and even at home) when you turn the ball over as many times as the Rockets do. Francis is the point guard, the "leader," and the playmaker and he had six TO's. That simply can't happen. Turnovers are a sign of carelessness, poor-decision making, and poor passing among other things.

It comes down to this, if the Rockets can't beat the Clippers and the Warriers, well, why are they in the playoffs anyway? And if the Jazz (rebuilt in one year) and the Nuggets (lead by a teenage rookie) take the seventh and eighth spots, it will be more than pathetic.

Van Gundy said fatigue had nothing to do with how the Rockets played and then Yao says he was tired while the altitude made him more tired. I have to believe fatigue from playing the night before and the high altitude had a lot to do with that pitiful performance. I say to JVG I hope your wrong because, if your not, then you and your team stink. Are JVG and the players even on the same page? It doesn't seem like it. JVG is always on another page by design apparently.

The Denver coach referred to us as "a solid basketball team". I disagree with that comment. We are still at a point in which we don't know which team will show up to play the game. Injuries aside...this team's play is Jekyll and Hyde. I would hardly qualify that as a solid basketball team. We have our moments of solid play but that is about all I can say about that. We're still the high turnover prone team who can't seem to fix our problem areas. I know I can count on Steve for those 5+ turnovers, though. ;)

The Rockets have worn me out. I'm ready for the season to end. Let's see where we are at in the playoffs. Who will it be? Jekyll or Hyde?

No doubt this was a butt ugly loss but not an unexpected one. The Rockets will claim fatigue and altitude plus the back-to-back games were responsible but it's just more of the same old same old they have delivered for the past 5 years. If they played as well as they made excuses, they'd be NBA Champions by now. I noticed that the back-to-back games did not prevent the Lakers from taking down Seattle.

Oh well, looking forward to what ever they manage to drag out on the TC floor. The Kings are slumping, hurt and out of 1st place. Both SA and Dallas have literally pimp-slapped them around. If the Rockets hold true to form, they'll make these guys look like world beaters.

Here is a quote of JVG
hi, "competitive"? do they still have desire to be competitive?

What the hell did those Rox guys think? heh, did they make sure they've already stood in the playoffs court?!

Why the hell did those guys lose momentum at the crucial time fighting for the costly playoffs spot which they had wildered for almost five years?!

What the hell did those guys make themselves responsible for that stinked D? Damn! allowing 110 points in regulation?!

Forgive me ranting here. As a diehard fan, I can't bear those dumb $^!% any more:mad:

    Um.... yea.

Based on this year's games, which do you think is more likely: 1.) This team taking care of the ball against a ball-hawking defense, or 2.) This "defensive" team being able to slow down the other's offense.

Getting turnovers, and points off turnovers, is nothing new for this team. In fact, we've won several games despite doing this. We won those games because we got stops when we needed to.

We had several opportunities to make this game competitive, but whenever we scored... they always scored right back (most of the time on wide open jumpers by their center).

    Nick,

To say its all about defense is something Cooper would say, its just not true. Its all about balance. Just like in life you need balance, offense -defense. The scale can't tip too far in either direction. To say its all about defense is bumper sticker material. Clutchfans members should know better. They're too good for talk like that, their knowledge of the game is too great for that kind of talk, they're better than that. I mean think about it, its like a guy from the weather channel going, 'its all about the warm fronts and high pressure systems'... well hey, wait a minute, what about the low pressure systems and the cold fronts man? see what I mean. Defense - offense, warm fronts - cold fronts. balance, its natures key ingredient.

I totally agree with you. But, just as there is always some semblance of balance, there is also what's considered a team's strength, and a team's weakness.

Nobody ever confused this team for an offensive juggernaut, but when they put up close to 100 (as they did last night), you always consider yourself thankful.

Nobody ever confused the Mavericks as a defensive shut-down wizard of a team... even they don't believe they could play defense when it counts (see Nash's comments after the Kings game). But, they do know that they're not going to win any games unless their offense is on... thus, they know that this is what they need to do.

I honestly don't believe there's been a game this year that the Rockets have played horrible defense, and won. Why?? Because, defense is still this team's greatest strength... and thus, I'll be hoping that each and every game we play, we utilize that strength. Sure you still need offensive execution (which we had enough of last night), and you can't just give the ball to the team as much as we do... but at some point, our strength needs to help carry us to the win.

At not one point did we do that last night. Granted, a lot of our defensive lapses have to do with no Cato there for rebounding and taking up minutes... but I'd still like to see more of an effort.

    good post, though.

I saw rockets.com right now and it said his status is uncertain. Has he hurt the same shoulder as he did in the pre-season?
We need him as we can't afford any more injuries.
