Yeah, George Karl has a sense of strategy, JVG does not.

I saw the halftime score. I thought it "yes," was a given. Improve that draft position!

Was celebrating the Astros win, & checked the final score ...

    I'm shocked.

& not in a good way.

Try again. If we had tanked correctly we would have had a shot at the 6th pick. Now it's more like 9-10. I've never full-on bashed JVG for wanting to win. But this victory was moronic. We should have been playing the young guys to see what they had, instead of this "win at all costs, even though it means absolutely nothing" crap.

Here's hoping the lottery gods will come through despite our coach's bumbling.

stro doesnt play because gundy knows he is crap and doesnt want strong fluke games from him down the stretch to convince alexander and dawson that he's the answer for us at the 4-spot. i am pretty critical of gundy as a coach, but i give him credit and agree with this.

also, if any of you saw the rockets insider interview with him after the game, if was also very encouraging. he said the one positive to take from this season is that, even with yao and tmac, the rest of our team sucks (in as many words, but he said it pretty bluntly). he said realizing this can be a tremendous advantage for us if handled correctly in the offseason.

alleviated my concerns that the front office was going to write this season off as "it was all because of injury", and be content with the personell we have.

also, the player we would have drafted two spots earlier wasnt bringing us a championship next season, and isnt guaranteed to be better than the player who falls into our lap. relax people.

It was kind of exciting to see the guys without Yao and TMac pull this one out. Lottery consequences not withstanding, my hats off to the Rox.

My thoughts exactly. Besides, the more playing time and the more confidence they develop now, the better they can support Yao and TMac when they return... leastways, in my opinion.

    The bright side:

    1) jHo upped his trade value so we can get rid of him
    2) basketball gods happy with our hustle
    3) JJ redick ( probably the safest pick in the draft, you know youre getting a pure shooter and not much else )

I posted this in another thread a few days back. Shows the probability of getting a particular pick based on our record order.

    Code:
                                   TEAM RECORD
    		6	7	8	9	10	11
    	1	6.3%	4.3%	2.8%	1.7%	1.1%	0.8%
    	2	7.1%	4.9%	3.3%	2%	1.3%	1%
    	3	8.1%	5.8%	3.9%	2.4%	1.6%	1.2%
    	4	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%
    DRAFT	5	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%
    PICK	6	43.9%	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%
    	7	30.5%	59.9%	0%	0%	0%	0%
    	8	4%	23.2%	72.4%	0%	0%	0%
    	9	0.1%	1.8%	16.8%	81.3%	0%	0%
    	10	0%	0%	0.8%	12.2%	87%	0%
    	11	0%	0%	0%	0.4%	8.9%	90.7%
    	12	0%	0%	0%	0%	0.2%	6.3%
    	13	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%	0.1%
    	14	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%	0%

Our chances of getting the 6th pick have been erased. It's unlikely we'll even finish with the 7th worst record, so we can kiss the 7th pick good bye as well. Our chances of getting one of the top 3 picks also probably dropped by more than half.

Hey, but at least we won a meaningless game against a team in tank mode!

i think i literally hate this team now. nothing but a bunch of POS players when it counts, and then play like gangbusters to pull out a win to seriously hurt our draft position.

i checked in late in the 4th and watch until we gave up the dunk to make it 81-68. bill had made some comment about us being stuck on 68, so i figured it was over. i check back in, 83-80, wtf! but hey, DEN has the ball, it's all good. nm, inexplicable backcourt violation. then juwan drains one. then amazing turnover leads to a dunk. then two terrible shots by denver. gorgeous. luckily GS looks to be whooping portland (though it could change) so we're still tied with them. but minny and boston are now done for.

What do you think about this game? Is there a conspiracy so Rockets will not get a good pick? Denver Nuggets benched their starters with the exception of Camby, never look like they intended to win.

Next Spurs, if Rockets lose this game, it sure is a big THUMP for Rockets.

What if our players didn't "really" pull it out? What if the reason we won was due to Denver's white flag at the end of the game?

I didn't watch the game but noticed that they sat Anthony out in the very last-and-crucial minute.

Edit: Actually Anthony and Miller didn't play at all in the 4th quarter

Van Gundy has no purpose and can't look beyond the present.

Alford was an amazing shooter, but he was only 6'2". He didn't have the quickness to be a PG, and was too short to be an SG in the NBA.

Actually I have no problem with us winning the game if JVG was willing to play our young players like Head, Stro, Lampe and Hayes for 30 minutes...

Now our young players didn't get opportunities to play more and it didn't help in our draft positions. This is stupid.
