I don't care if both Yao and Tracy are playing: Shane should get a $10,000 fine each time he passes up open treys from the corner. Look, he's a very good post passer to Yao but the "all Yao all the time" offense won't win us a championship because it will run Yao into the ground. Shane is part of that problem with our lack of diversity on offense. That all said, great game tonight. Shane should shoot 4 to 8 treys per game.
Great game.. couple of things- I forget how good T-mac is when he playing aggressive and driving to the hoop. He also is guaranteed to make two or three great defensive steals or blocks a game. He just has that sense where he knows where to be to pick off a pass or step in and get a block. Secondly, Bonzi is real good. He has great low post moves and I cant imagine how good this offense could be with him, McGrady and Yao playing together. On a side note, I dont understand JVG substitution pattens. He never seems to play Wells or McGrady together and routinely puts subs in with a minute and half left in the period. Today he put Bonzi in with like a minute twenty eight left in a period. IMO, this is hardly enough time for a player to get warm and make a difference. Also, JVG lighten up! Your team did well today, it is okay to be upbeat and same some good things once awhile about other players other than Battier.
Great win over a mediocre team, proves that we can still beat who we are supposed to beat without Yao and with T-Mac. And for those who say JVG can't coach offense, I daresay Battier's career high 7 three pointers are quite nice.
Anybody is wathcing the game---New York VS Detroit? Very good game. New York is hot now, we beat them twice this season, good.
Battier was Team USA's most reliable 3 point shooter at the world games. But with Yao on the floor, he sees his role as a defensive stopper and he throws everything into shutting down the other team's best player. He is fascinating to watch. He instinctively cuts off passing lanes, is well prepared in knowing which direction the opponent prefers, and just is a defensive genius. Now with Yao hurting, he knows he has to pick up the scoring, and he has the ability to do it. The guy is the perfect team player.
Exactly the man is a jack of all Trades. Initially he was bought here to be a lockdown Primeter defender, but with the Injuries occuring like they have, he has evolved he's game alot more offensively. as i said before, it is a sign of an outstanding player whom can adjust and pickup he's game at any-given-time.
Please understand I appreciate tonight's game and Shane's adjustment since Yao went down. But his deference/laziness/lack of intensity on offense is one reason we went into scoring droughts when teams choked off Yao in the 2nd half. If/when Yao comes back, Shane must bring his offensive game face every night to make us a contender. We can't afford to have him playing offense like Rybo. That has killed us a couple times. His efficiency is obviously higher when he's aggressive vs when he's lazy/deferential/non-intense (even when both Tracy and Yao are playing).
I'd rather call him passive/non-assertive than lazy/non-intense. Laziness implies he's not willing to expend energy. That's not the case at all. I think he's just too unselfish. He plays the college game where there's much more stress on helping teammates and making the extra pass rather than creating for yourself. He needs to realize that we're better off with him taking shots than Rafer Alston.
I feel like Battier is a bit like a robot. He presses the 'Offense' button and immediately goes for 7 3-pointers, and on defence he switches into defense lockdown mode. I can't believe how good he can be (can, not is) I'm not ready to declare him our second option so far (yeah I know he has 28 and 23 in two games) but if he continues this against Hawks, I'll be pleasently surprised.
Your terms are better, but I still think a lack of offensive energy and intensity have something to do with it. In college, he became assertive on offense his last couple of years because his coach challenged him, and it made Shane a better player. It's not a matter of creating for himself because Shane can't really do that (and I'm not talking about his post-up hook shots at all). He just needs to take jumpers when he's open and the Rockets offense markedly improves..
I appreciate the win. but with 24 TOs in a game, they can only beat the lowly Nets. Great win, but problems maintain.
A win is a win. I would've liked a win yesterday, and a win today. That would have made me really happy.
How about Battier's seven 3's? That's pretty solid 3rd scoring production minus Yao. Though, as stated turnovers need to go way down. With or without Yao, no excuse for 20+ TO. However, with ATL & MEM at home the next 2 games, perhaps we can get to 19-12.
