    MacJAG,

with our defense you forgot about the Nets love (more so the drive and dish and the inside/outside game) for moving without the ball, once they pass the they will cut or screen away, they also flash across the keyway from weakside to the post really well. we also need to watch there feeds to the high post or feeds to Collins and Zo when the step out from the high post to outside the 3 pt line, the passer will then often cut strong side and the strongside corner player will often cut baseline or come off a down screen from the original passer. so we must keep vision with our player and the ball.

on offense we need to go inside early and get Collins in foul trouble, if Martin is out, A Williams and Scalabrine and also fould prone, not sure how Cato will draw fouls, so i guess that will be up Mo to come in and do that.

in the game i saw v Twolves, the Nets defense was extremely impressive, we are going to have to work real hard, they make it very hard to drive and when we do they will collapse and help especially if Scott runs Collins and Zo same time.

Stop Kidd from Dribbling. All he does in run around and find teammates off the dribble. If you do that you can force the other sorry players to create their own shot. Which is the exact antithesis of the offense Jason Kidd gives them. So make them do what they aren't used to doing. You could do this by making Jason Kidd go horizontally down the court of fast breaks and. Pressure him in the half court. With Yao ming and Cato we can let a player help out on Kidd and still protect the basket. As Barkely said. Double the best player or he will tear you up. Have one guard rotate back for Kittles because instead of rebounding he takes off down the court. All you have to do is get physical with Kittles and he'll fall apart. Stop Jefferson on the baseline. That's where he works effectively. And make him put the ball on the floor too. He's still got to prove he can knife through the lane and drop a duece over two seven footers. On offense we need to do the same old thing. Pump the ball into Yao and feed the guards for jumpers. As someone said earlier. We can outscore the Nets. They aren't that good if you take away the fast break and Jason Kidd's ball handling.

im thinking since kidd is is gaurding francis, they will not double team francis, and when francis is not double teamed is when he just pours in points.

i am just worred about the physical nature of zo, not many centers though undersized, are as physical... might give yao alot of trouble getting position

Didnt feel like making a new thread but this was on NBA.com Power Rankings
    http://www.nba.com/features/rankings_index.html

    12 Houston (13)
2-1 Yao and Kelvin Cato may be the new incarnation of Duncan and Robinson inside, teaming for 5.67 blocks per game as the Rockets allow the fewest points in the NBA (76.7 ppg).

we need to cut down TURNOVERS, as long as that's low, we are gonna win, net sucks at half court offense, we can shut them down easily.

    i like, i like.

how effective is Kidd if he aint bringing the ball up-court? not very.

very intrigued in the mourning/Yao matchup. should be fun.

    Predictions:

    Rockets 105

    Nets 64

Yao Ming scores 39 pts. 15 rebounds and 4 blocks and 4 assists.

Despite the blowout and Yao's solid numbers the board will be filled with posts about how the Rockets guards shut Ming out to prevent him from scoring 40, and that if that kind of play continues the Rockets will be in serious trouble.

On a serious note, I hope the Rockets learn from their mistakes last year against the Nets. I remember one game last year the Rockets kept falling for Jefferson's pump fakes outside. Jefferson then drove on us and scored a bunch of points on dunks and layups. Hopefully they've learned that Jefferson can't shoot from beyond 10ft. and not to fall for anything he pretends he'll do from that range.

If our defense can do that and keep up with the Jersey fast break, then we should be ok.

Wow..this thread has some quality! due to the thread merger ;) All game threads would be nice if they were like this...strategy and analysis and stuff.

    Also predictions...and related stuff.

Alonzo vs. Yao first time ever!

I wonder why Chronicle didn't mention Alonzo Mourning at all...

    Here's a stratagy thought.

Since the Nets like to score such a large part of their points on fast breaks it might be prudent to feed the post and not rely too heavily on the long 20 foot jump shot. This would cut down on long rebounds that could result in a lot of 3 on 2 or 3 on 1 fast breaks.
