Come on SLA...you can do better than that. Let's hear your take on tactics and strategy, not cheering.
Zo, I don't believe, has ever faced Yao: should be interesting to see his comments on playing against him.
Couple thoughts about the Nets game, o. Tempo has always been very important for the Nets. If we can play more of a half court game, only runs when there is an absolute opportunity, then the Rockets will be in a good position. o. Mobley, Francis, or Jackson should always stay with Kidds, restrain from crash the offensive board. If one of them can slow Kids down just a few seconds from getting to the board, or receiving the ball, then it will take away a lot of Nets transition points. o. Yao has to demand the ball to put Zo & co back to their heels, otherwise, the Rockets' penetration game will not be as effective since Zo is a good shot blocker. o. Hit the open shots. --daoshi
MacJAG, outstanding topic. imo, your best ever. unfortunately, i'm leaving work, but i would love it if you would start one of these topics before every game. i'd love to see how posters would approach a game beforehand....and it should eliminate some of the armchair coaching after the games. outstanding.
I beg to differ, sir... From http://www.nba.com/games/20031104/HOUNJN/preview.html ... The Nets have won three straight home meetings with the Rockets, including a 110-86 rout in the last matchup on March 31. Kidd and Jefferson each had 30 points and Martin sat out with a sprained knee. ... I agree with the rest, but not with the "we always beat them" stuff. So, there.
I'd like to see lots of flopping and flying elbows. Also some sharp knee lifts up into the hairy twins. When fighting for the loose ball, fingers should find the bottoms of eye sockets. Also, just once I'd like to see Kelvin level someone with a roundhouse punch.....preferably a small guard. Outside of all that, I'd just like to see the Rockets score more points than the Nets.
I agree that Ming has to be aggressive and be the man in the game in order for us to have a chance to win. However, the guards, especially CM, needs to consistently feed him the ball whenever Yao has position. I am not counting on Moochie because he fails at every level as a PG. Moochie cannot pass if a defender is fronting him (not Yao!), and Moochie's dribble penetration is antomatically a TO which routinely results 2-3 points for the opponents.
Upon each shot on the offensive end, I would have our 2 guard immediatly deny the outlet pass to Jason Kidd. Let someone else bring it up the court. DD
I was thinking about that we can even get someone like Jacque Vaughn, who is not a great scorer, but at least gets the basic job done as a PG. SF is really more of a 2 guard. We need someone that can consistently distribute the ball to Yao and SF. I like Cat as a player, but he is really not a good fit for the Rockets. I guess that he will likely be traded within the next 2 seasons.
watched all of nets v twolves from last friday and the Nets defense was very very impressive, extremely active, lots of hustle, tipped balls, bumping cutters and working together, certainly a lot tougher and more pressure than memphis put on the rockets. we need to get the ball to Yao early and often and get Collins and then Zo in some foul trouble we must also have good transition defense, otherwise Jefferson will just get dunks.
Funny Quotes!!! Byron Scott said it's important to be "aggressive and physical" with Yao. "But I don't think you outmuscle him," Scott said. "He's about 280 so he's not small." Bad news. Yao is actually listed at 310 pounds. go ROX!!!!! theSAGE
Tempo. It can't be emphasized enough. If the Nets run, we'll win. However, if we slow their down to our game, HELL NO they can't compete with Yao/Francis/Cat. Especially with Martin and Rogers out, their best PF is Mourning or Collins, who will play HEAVY minutes. How much can Mourning play? We'll see. However, it's VERY important that we slow the game down, and go to Yao Ming often so that we exhaust the few inside players the yhave right now.
I've always felt that if you could score more points than your opponent then you can increase your chance of winning. BTW, why not start this topic in the game thread started by Clutch?
I saw part of that game and completely agree with you. The Nets are always busy and active on the defensive end. BTW, have you heard from HeyP? Havent seen him here for quite a while. I thought he would be full throtle once the season started with a new offense and coach to analize.
That is some great analysis there crash, your insight into tonights game and even more, the NBA, is simply amazing, and I can't wait to hear your pre-game comments and thoughts for all the Rocket's games. I wish my thinking skills were half as deep as the thinking skills you have shown us in the above statement!
