What other team would have Yao going high to defend the pick and rolls.

It's ridiculous to expect him to go to the top of the key and then run back and block shots or rebound.

The majority of Yao's fouls come when the opposing player blows by their defender and Yao has to cover up their mistake.

No question, Deke is the better rebounder and shot blocker. However, he's an offensive liability on a team that only has 1 consistent scorer.

He can't play more than 15 minutes per game.

Bottom line: We need better players.

Houston Guards are supposed to be keep Dallas from penetrating. Terry and Howard shouldn't even get inside. Yao and Deke are the last line of defense. The problem is the poor perimeter defense by Houston tonight.

Did you see how many block shots and altered shots in this game? Problem is nobody else helped Yao to get the boards after Yao went out to block or alter shots.

Watch the entire series again, Deke didn't do any better than Yao other than game 6.

It's more complaicted than that. We lost because of out D. We suck big time trying to out score Dallas. We dont have a PG. Kidd's on the way to help?

    trer,

    I agree with you...

    JVG got whipped tonite....

I guess the whole Stern thing has gotten to him....

But he was not the same and did not make any adjustments.

I posted this in another thread, but i'll post it here:

Throughout the whole series, the one thing that stands out in my mind is the inability for van gundy to make in game adjustments. We just saw Yao guard a 6-1 PG. I don't care if you want to have the advantage on the other end, you don't ask your 7-6 center to guard the PG. Its just a joke. Other adjustments that i think JVG didn't take into account:

    1) Constantly staying Wesley with Stackhouse. Stackhouse is 6-6 and Wesley is 6-1. All Stackhouse does is post-up and does a turn around jump shot with pretty much no pressure. I'm sorry but that's stackhouse's bread and butter. He made his career off of those turn around jump shots.

    2) Leaving McGrady to guard Dirk too much. It's okay in my eyes if he left him guarding Dirk on crucial situations, but the whole game drains Mcgrady's stamina and it showed in a couple of 4th quarters. And if you really look at it, Dirk wasn't the impact player of this series. It was Jason Terry.

    3) The courage to tell the team to run that Pick and Roll to death. If i was JVG, I would yell in the players faces to run that Pick and Roll to death. It's unstoppable. Every time down the floor they should run that PnR until Dallas makes the adjustments. I just don't understand why we would run it 2-3 plays, get buckets from them, then watch Mike James go 1 on 3.

Lastly, I wanna say that i'm damn PROUD of this team. From day one of this series, we were the under dog. NOBODY said we could win this series and we went out and took the first 2 games. We lost to a more talented team and the time just came where teh talent showed. This team is far from complete and the future is really bright. I'm just sad that I have to watch the next 3 or 4 weeks of basketball without my rockets in it. It was a great season and we learned a lot from our 2 superstars: the best is yet to come!

    Go Rockets!

P.S. - I'm not saying that JVG is a terrible coach, just saying that he didn't make the adjustments needed to throw the mavs off.

I'd also throw in the fact that we've gotten 60 points from T-Mac/Yao but only 14 from EVERYONE ELSE COMBINED. Ugh.

That's all I ask at this point.

I can sleep in comfort knowing that the Mavs aren't winning any title this year. Even if they get through the Suns, the Spurs will kick them out. The Mavs are built to be perennial playoff fodders.

JVG f-cked up from the start. He should've went with Bowen and had Sura on a short leash if he wasn't performing.

Wow, we're going to break 2 NBA records.

1st - 3rd team in NBA History to choke after a 2-0 lead.
2nd - Enjoy having the biggest Texas blow-out on the losing end

Dallas is just laying it on us in this game.

Sorry Tom, in a 7 game series the best team always wins...and if you win in a blowout like this it excenuates it even more. I'm not saying Dallas is leagues better, but they're just better with more consistent shooting.
I actually think we're going to be alright, I mean, cmon, Dallas has a payroll almost 30 million more than us and we're missing our starting 4...AND WE STILL ALMOST BEAT THEM. No shame, I'm proud of our guys. :)

The Mavs have already wasted most of their energy on the Rockets. They're going to get swept. :D

Read the Rick Bucher article.....usually when the center shows on a pick 'n roll the power forward slides over....we don't have that

When YAO contests shots nobody helps out and the other team gets easy put backs...same thing when Deke does it

Thank goodness I didn't waste money and go to this game. Glad I'm watching it in the confines of my own home. If I was in a Dallas bar watching this, I would get laughed at and get beer poured on.
