Plus, it was Nelson's playing Nowitski at the 5 last year that ultimately led to his being ineffective in the playoffs. Dirk may be 7 feet tall but he's not a true post player and he struggles when asked to play the 5. That's why Cuban & Co. bit the bullet and went out and got Dampier because they get little, if anything, from Shawn Bradley.

It might not matter who is playing him if Yao doesn't step up and be counted. He is rapidly running out of grace time and excuses because if he can deliver the type of effort that TMac, James and Mutumbo have shown they are capable of giving, then these Rockets just might make a goodly bit of noise in the playoffs.

A great game by the Rockets! But all this Dirk bashing, this talk of Dirk being "exposed" is flawed. Make no mistake, that guy is one helluva player and he will come back with a vengeance. I consider the Rockets LUCKY that he had an off-game, not necessarily Bowen being the prime reason. If you think Bowen will shut Dirk down more than 1 game, then you hope for LUCK! I'm actually surprised that we didn't see Padgett get more of a chance out there, but I'm sure JVG has some more tricks up his sleeve. No doubt JVG's plan for game 2 will be very different from game 1--if he truly is a great coach with a great feel for this team he will be confident in throwing a whole new wrench at Avery Johnson just as AJ spends sleepless hours di-secting game 1 for naught!

Anyway, I loved the way T-MAC played and involved his teammates in this one. Having experienced guys like Dikembe, James, Sura, and Barry can occasionally compensate for poor games from Yao. But, Yao will have to play much better for the Rockets to advance out of the first round, everyone knows that. In the mean-time, thank God for T-MAC and this web-site. Being way out here in North Carolina where no one cares about the Rockets, this site always makes me feel better about my team!

    R2K,

That link for the post/pre game is not working. Just wanted to let you know.

BTW, I was wondering if it would be possible that immediately after the game is over, if you can switch over to NBA TV and do the post-game conference from there, because they have the full coverage on that channel. Unless, of course, you don't have access to NBATV.

Thanks R2K for the great clips, once again. Definitely the poster of the year (By far);)

First: Link fixed...it was late late and I screwed up the extension in the link....my bad..I really gotta remember to proof my posts at 3am.

Second: I would wait and see what the FSN postgame has before you determine that NBATvs is better...I think you will be surprised at the amount of postgame FSN carried (there was over a hours worth of it, I clipped all but the necessary parts to cut down on file size)....Besides...FSN has the postgame coverage from a Rockets perpective, which is the whole reason why I choose the home network over national every time.

Third: The line going to my capture card is straight cable...I dont have a converter box inline(which is required for NBATv)..so the only way to get NBATv would be to record it in another room and then capture it...adding to the time required.

and forthly.....AggieRocket....I dont think anyon has any doubts that Dirk is one helluva player, but to discount his performance as solely due to his own offgame is incorrect...while he may not have hit a few shots that he would normally make.....his open looks were severely limited by the outstanding in-your-face defense of Tmac and Bowen.

Dirk may be a helluva player.....but even the best players can be limited by damn good defense....I urge you to quit jocking Dirk so hard and give some respect to the Rockets defense in this win.

    Hey R2K,
How do you go about capturing and then encoding the video from tv broadcasts? I suppose you start off with a tv tuner card from which you can record video onto your hard drive, but correct me if I'm wrong, there is no compression applied to this video, correct? That would mean an hour of video might be closer to a 1 gig file. How do you apply compression to shrink size but retain quality? I have a tv tuner card and am interested in what you do. Kudos for all your work this season.

I understand your point, I did switch back and forth between FSN and NBATV, the only part I was really interested in was the live post-game conference, and NBATV had them uncut, with no commentary or anything else. The post-game analysis by the NBATV crew was pretty good, and had tons of praise for the Rockets and their players. I personally would rather hear what non-homers have to say about the game, but I understand your point.

If FSN carries the post-game conf in its entirety then I would definitely watch it instead of NBATV. I will do that for the next game, I will watch FSN instead and just record NBATV for later viewing:)

    Thanks for your efforts again

    Toro,
it is a entire process that takes a arsenal of programs...one for editing, one for demuxing the a/v, one for converting the audio to VBR mp3, one for encoding the video, one for remuxing the a/v..
and actually...one hour of video at dvd-quality mpeg2 is more like 4.5 - 5G....gotta have a large hard drive.

    tiger,
well...rellistically....aside from the fact that I have zero interest in what "non-homers" (you do realize that should not be a insult, right?) have to say since they dont know the Rockets nor are the interested in providing the kind of commentary that is targetted to Rockets fans....It just isnt practical to provide the entire unedited conferences....as it is...the file size on the edited ones is damn near half the size of the full game file...releasing stuff like this is a exercise in choosing what is worth keeping and what isnt..get the meat out and set aside the potatoes...most ppl dont want to download gigs of info to get the coverage..

I do appreciate the thoughts tho...dont misunderstand me..Im just tryin to explain what I am about here...hope you understand. ;)

can someone help me remember a play from last night?

it was a beautiful touch pass by T-mac, which led to another pass to Barry, I believe, who shot the three or the deep two...

it was incredible ball movement, and the touch pass, it was like lightning, t-mac is simply amazing

Bull: (pause) Should I put a smiley face on him Bill?... (with the tellustrator)

    Worrell: No....

    Bull: ...Ok

    ROCK ON!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOOO

They may not be ROckets fans..but they were wearing Rockets shirts! :)

LOL it's funny how when Barry makes a shot..Bill says a COLD BLOODED SHOT by Jon :) It's true! That fadeaway on Nowitzki was COLD BLOODED. So were his 3's and pass to Mutombo.

And wow Mavs can't get enough of WHO? MIKE JAMES!!!!!!

during the first half of those highlights you can see Les Alexander, sitting next to the Rockets bench, enthusiastically cheering on the Rockets. he's the guy in the blue shirt.
