Wow Yao played 40 minutes tonight. You know what? He didn't seem that tired playing that long. I bet playing in the high post abit did conserve his energy. Impressive. But 25pt-12rb-3dime-3block is even more impressive. :D Great game by Tmac as well. To rafer haters, give him some credits, he made good plays before pressure time in the last 5 min. 8 assist is alright. Besides, he only attempted 6 shots, which i am definatly happy about.

why did tmac just take 1 freakin' shot in the 4th? so he only scored 6 pts?

we're keeping him fresh to use him in the 4th and our PGs didn't pass him the damn ball?

What I took from this game:

We saw glimpes of how good they could be. Tough game on the road opening night against the LA Bryants and they pulled it out despite not playing well at all. They should only get better from here.

it would have been too close for comfort if Luke Walton didn't score one for us. :)

Same old Rafer - 1 for 6 shooting (1 for 5 from 3 pt land) and a whole host of bad plays...I don't know what I'm going to do if I see that floater one more time... He's well on his way to having the worst fg% in the NBA again so I guess he's in mid-season form.

I don't expect to see him on the court much longer though...Francis will take his spot in the rotation.

Missed free throws aside, we should've had Mike James out there to finish the 4th quarter. Rafer hit that big 3-pointer, but otherwise he was awful out there running the offense. And T-Mac doesn't get off the hook either. He had a few sloppy turnovers.

Still, the Rockets did enough to win and you figure they'll only get better offensively as the season goes on. Just quit fouling so damn much!

I would lower Deke's grade. He did absolutely nothing out there, he was giving up offensive rebounds, getting burned by his man, and just fouling. I think his ineffectiveness was what forced Yao to play 40 minutes.

I would lower James's grade for gagging those FT's near the end.

Agreed with the rest, except I think you can give Scola a grade since they honestly tried to give him time but he couldn't stop fouling. For some reason Luther didn't see the court after the second courter. I'd give Scola a D.

    Nice pics, pryuen.

Last year I say we would have lost that game, but we didn't and it is a good wakeup call. A lot of miscues were exposed in the end, but totally correctable. To me it looked like they were pretty tired most of the night, and trying to think to much instead of playing the system. Guess that is the sign they are not totally comfortable yet, but lots to be impressed with tonight.

Rafer was the cancer in that game.

I still can't get over how Kobe yells and flails while running towards and official whenever he is called for a foul. IN A GAME WHERE HE GOT 27 FREE THROWS. Have you no shame, Kobe Bryant?

Yao was not at his best but still got 25-12-3 on good efficiency. That is a very encouraging sign.

T-Mac can't start games just shooting around, if he would have only attack from the start the Rockets wouldn't have let the Lakers build a quick lead.

Rafer has to be able to split a trap and break a press. It's the only reason he starts, so they better be working on it.

Scola looks confused as to what to do. I don't think RA trusts him with high post touches yet.

with the exception of the final 1:30, I was pleased with the game. We are still a work in progress, but we showed flashes of what's to come.

This is the first time I can ever remember watching a Rockets game where every single lineup we put out there was for the most part effective. Gone are the days when we'd run out a Bowen, Moochie, Langhi, or a Tierre Brown type of player. We finally have a bench to compete with the spurs, suns, and mavs.

We will keep improving, and hopefully we learn to not let of the gas and put people away.

A win is a win, but that was ridiculous. TOs down the stretch are unexcusable, period. Not sure why we went away from Yao after he was going off on Brown/Bynum and anyone else the Lakers put on him.

The TOs don't concern me all that much, I'm sure we'll clean things up as the season goes on. But TMac getting the ball ripped out of his hands, along w/ Rafer and MJ playing "who can turn the ball over more in the last 30 seconds" was hard to watch.

    BATTIER FOR PRESIDENT!!

rafer does make some nice passes at times, but his bad outweighs his good. it's good his mins is reduced to 29 mins (not 38 like last yr) but that's still too much.

kobe - 32 shots and 27 fts. do u see a bigger ballhog than this?

AGAIN, tmac only got 1 damn shot in the 4th. he didn't even have a chance to finish the game.

    Now I can repeat:

They will start talking about Kobe for Shane straight trade, and Morey flatly says NO.
