Ohhh right... so playing here originally and this being where he has his family has nothing to do with it? Dallas I recall made a pitch to Steve also so why not sign there?

A win is a win and they made it tough on themselves...Luckily Shane was clutch...It's the first game, but I agree with what everyone is saying...

The team goes where T-Mac and Yao go...

Rockets looked very good tonight. Still have a lot of issues, but those just showed the potentials of this team. Our bench is just so deep now that it is scary. It was just a different feeling this year compared to the past couple of years. I'd like to think of it this way: Rockets were playing with just percentage of their full potential and still beat LA.

The last one minute and a half was ugly. RA does not seem to have the cold-blooded guts to handle tough situations.

what a great game!! it was worth staying up so late for..

can we please get rafer out of the game.. i believe the franchise can do a better job than this guy... Mike James!! im glad that guy is back, he should be our starting PG.

Yao is gonna be a beast.. Tacy needs no comments..

I am a huge rockets fan, but if they should trade Francis after how they pursued him and all the promise they made to him, then i seize to respect the organization, Morey and RickA. Cos he gave up playing in LA with Mobley, Miami with Dwade and Shaq, and Dallas with Nowitzki and crew. So if they trade him, i seize being a rockets fan, although i doubt anyone will notice, but there is my 2 cents for all its worth,

And he definitely does not belong on the bench when Rafer keeps giving me heart attcks everytime he goes for a tear drop.

Gotta be a tough game, extremly tough. Utah looks Good, especially with Boozer. I wanna see our defense against him.

The game will be on TNT so no nbalp, but it should be on vp1 or vp3, maybe vp9. I'll know it later.

BTW: Didn't we play zone for a few minutes last night?

lol. it's not like steve turned fat overnight. it probably started when he went to NY. injury + NY (great food) = fat in no time.

If we did, it was completely horrible because Kobe was getting to the paint with ease.

ig we had played UTAH the same way we played LA last night, they would have decimated us and probably would have had TMAC crying during the press conference. Its unbelievable that a supposedly good rockets team could go down to the final minisecond against a pretender like Lakers

Hahaha, seriously, what the hell? It's one thing to complain when you think you've been fouled, but to complain when the other guy drove past you? I thought Duncan complained a lot, but man, Kobe takes the CAKE.

I thought overall Rafer played a good game. Four turnovers is too many, but otherwise he did a good job until they applied the full court press in the final minutes of the game. He dictated a good tempo spread the ball around and got quite a few rebounds, most importantly he only took 6 shots and made an important three in the fourth quarter.

The 18 turnovers was ridiculous and basically the only thing that makes me think that we shouldn't have won the game but that's definitly something thats going to improve with time as they get adjusted to the offense. How many times did they just pass the ball directly to the defender?

My only other criticism, especially early on, a little too much Yao in the high post. Kwame Brown and Bynum were hopeless against him on the low block you gotta exploit the mismatch. Otherwise, a lucky win, but a good win nonetheless. Plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

    My thoughts:
    * UGLY start. Couldn't buy a basket. This is the first time I found myself wishing they'd throw in the second unit - and having confidence that it would get better!

    * overall an OK game. Showed flashes of what we're going to be (hopefully soon), mixed with flashes of our team at it's worst from last year (no motion with players standing still waiting for someone to create). It'll get better as the chemistry builds and they get used to the new system, but it'll take time.

    * Defense was not bad. Again, a couple lapses, but not bad.

    * Rafer was OK - made some good plays; made some bonehead plays. I say they remove a pinkie-toe everytime he attempts another one of those friggin teardrops!

    * I really liked our energy coming out of the half - something that was missing from last year. But we do need to work on that killer instinct and put teams away when we've got them down!

This year's going to be a fun ride!

The only thing I would add to this list is that the finish was horrible and it should have never been as close as it was.

According to Yao. The rockets did not practice much against the press, which caused problems towards the end of the game.

    CLUTCH!

i love your recaps of games. they're very well done and make a lot of sense. it really makes me feel better about the bbs after reading so many "freak out" types of posts.

that stuff almost makes me not want to come back.

sure we fell apart at the end. but we did come back from being down by just as much earlier in the game. it's basketball. it's fun. the game was exciting. that's why we all watch it isn't it. thought so.

tmac played 40 minutes thats a lot more than he played under van gundy with about 35 MPG. im glad to see t-mac play more. he should be fresher in this offense.
