What's weird, reading over those comments, is how many people say stuff like "We love Yao, so he should play here". Is it just me or does Yao get some loving from the NY crowd? Even the professional sports writers from NY, who are notorious for their poison pens, seem to like him a lot.
Ps : Anybody saw T-mac talked to SF3 cheerfully when Yao's big slam dunk, unbelievable^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Thanks. It's so good that seeing the other team's fans wanting your player. And I believe Yao's answer is "No way".
I was also at the game and i'm from Holland so i never been to an NBA game before in my whole life but i have to say it was great. The Rockets got the most cheers and the Knicks got the most boos, i think even from their own 'fan base'. A lot of people left with 1 to 2 minutes left in the game which was great to see since i'm a Rockets fan. There were some enthousiastic fans out there of the Rockets and every basket was followed by clapping, cheering and whistling. Now my analysis on the game and the Rockets in general. I revised a lot of my views on this team and it's different when you see a game live than on TV of course. Also since i haven't seen a lot of games and they're getting better, more ppl stepping up it's easier to form a more positive opinion. I saw Rafer, Hayes and Battier on TV and wasn't blown away at all but this game showed a lot of their pottential. Battier is an excellent defense player which really showed in the first quarter when the Rockets went up 10-0. Also his follow ups after a few missed shots were great and i'm shocked that he had 5 blocks !! I thought Yao had a lot more than 2 blocks because he altered a lot of shots but it's great to see some1 else blocking a shot. Maybe Battier will become a 2nd Horry with the three point shots and blocks Now Hayes had a lot rebounds and some nice easy baskets so respect to him even though i think he will never be a scorer but that's okay since we have others to do that. Rafer blew me away by his leadership on offense, he was really telling Battier and Head where to be and what to do and with his drives to the basket and 3pt shots he can definetly be the third scorer. He really reminds of Kenny Smith with his abilities to lead, make 3pt shots and drive to basket. His defence is not up to par though because Marbury owned him everytime he made a move but so did Rafer on the offensive end. For the rest i think Yao was really amazing and this game really shows he's the new Olajuwon and i'm confident in saying that this team can win a championship if Yao steps up as the leader. If McGrady can accept that, be humble and stop being a PG shooting ill advised shots than we can do this. Now i come to the last player who didn't even play great but did an excellent job off the bench: Scola. He came up big in the 4th and had a nice game but he can be a lot better. Scola is definetly the PF of the future, i just hope he will start some games this year to show what he's really made of but i think that won't happen. He shows a lot of potential because i felt he didn't even have a great game with his missed free throws + easy baskets and jumpers. Imagine Scola having a great night, he can easily score 30+ but that's not what we need at PF right now so maybe Hayes is better at the starting position. Head and Bonzi were average at best in this game but during shooting practice they were were shooting threes and hit almost every shot. They made a little competition out of it which was nice to see. I saw some posts concerning McGrady and if he was happy or sad, well he was cheering, clapping and greeted his teammates during time-out so no problems there. Yao and McGrady avoiding each other i didn't notice (hopefully not true and just bull) and too bad i didn't see Steve Francis because he was there right ?
Thanks for posting about your visit to the game. It's always interesting to hear from the people who see the games live around the league.
