I think it's just a pose for the cameras, because you know, the ladies are watching Seriously though, it's just incredibly difficult to see anything valuable coming out of the perimeter garbage we have. Short of taking on an overpaid player's contract, we won't get anyone that can help us out.
that's exactly what bothers me about Yao that 1-2 seconds where he sits there and then proceeds to do the same thing over and over, which is attempt to back down the defender with the same post moves time after time again. what happened to Yao dunking it 18 ft out from the basket?
You would think... but lets get real on Yao's jump-shooting ability. He's not Larry Bird... he's a great shooter for his size, but he's not really a pure shooter.
Yao is a finesse player not a power player. JVG is hurting Yao's game more than he's helping it. Next thing you know he'll shoot Free Throws like Shaq also. Yao can shoot and pass and the Rockets don't use his skills at all.
Short-term satisfaction will get us nowhere. If we have to sacrifice this season in order to build a LONG TERM LINEUP THAT WILL STAY TOGETHER FOR MORE THAN ONE SEASON AT A TIME, then so be it (sorry for the caps, just wanted to make a point). The goal is still a championship eventually with McGrady and Yao at the helm, correct? then nothing short-term please, let's think Big for once...
So, you're saying let this season go and build for the future? Because you didn't mention one player to improve us.
Yea, I agree. Doesn't JVG see that the league has changed? With zone defense and double teams, Yao need to mix up his moves with jump shots and passes from the top, etc. ****ing JVG is so stubborn.
Then you get into the debate on whether its wise to turn a 7'6 center into a guy who's really not that much more valuable out there than Brad Miller. You take away any chance of an offensive rebound, and you eliminate a chance for Yao to get EASY looks down low since he's so damn tall. If Yao isn't a low-post player, he's not going to become a Brad Miller type either... and frankly, I don't want a guy of that size settling for jump shots.
I'm tired of people defending him...guess you haven't been watching him this whole season This season so far, YES he is that BAD...the guy has done nothing to improve our team...
We're not talking all or nothing. Mix in the plays depending on what the opposing D is doing. Let him post up and shoot from the top of the key. He would still be in position to get his own rebounds and any other long rebounds that come out to the foul line area.
Yes, that's what I am saying, if it can be done and it helps us out this season, then great, but that shouldn't be the main concern for the organization. As for whom to bring, I don't have any specific players in mind, but we will inevitably rebuild our backcourt (because all of the guys that will be leaving), and we will have to rebuild it on the cheap, and that means doing what Dallas has done (for example) with bringing in young guys and involving them in the team's success. Also, I am still adament about the third scorer being a SG alas Jalen Rose, because I think more than any other position, that's the one player (along with the PG) who will beenfit the most (and hurt the opponents the most) from McGrady's passing. As for PF, all we need is a rebounded/physical guy in there, nothing else really, not a scorer or anything like that, and we will be OK. Stro and Howard might not be it, but Swift might become it, and if not his value is still not bad and we can get something for him no doubt (a killer irony here is that Cato would have been the perfect PF alongside Yao with this team).
If Yao shoots 55% on jump shots, then why not let him shoot it? If he can find the cutter on the baseline, then why not? It gives his game another dimension. That doesn't mean he can't post up. He can still post up, but now the other team has to respect his range and passes. Yao is so predictable, and I'm blaming JVG. In fact, basically every player on the team has become so one-dimensional.
Where did bowen get the courage to shoot at will? He needs to stop, the rockets do not need airballs.
I don't understand why JVG makes Yao go outside to defend point guards. It is too easy to figure it out for the opposite team how to break that defense. Even Miller in the halftime interview mentioned that. JVG has to stop being stupid and change the way he defends the pick and roll.
