Good point. I'd like to expound on it. IMHO the most efficient way for Yao to score in the post isn't the static post play - to fight for position, get the ball, wait a few seconds, pull a move and fire a shot. The best way to use Yao as a post threat is to have him start in the high post, interact with situation and flash to the basket for a pass and a shot. Finding the gaps left open by defense for quick post play saves our shot clock and Yao's stamina, also increases Yao's FG% when he's able to get deep position in such way.
Panda - IMHO, they are already doing what you suggest. The problem has been that other than TMAC, Luther Head has been our only consisitent perimeter shooter (and the includes Juwan and Stro from the FT line area extended and baseline). When you are not hitting perimeter shots, it is very easy for the defense to sag towards the paint and narrow the passing lanes. Under these conditions, the entry pass needs to be nearly perfect and we've got a lot of new players (and Wesley at PG) trying to make that pass.
I didn't read all the pages of this thread so ignore if this has already been posted. NBA.com has T-Mac's interview with Cheryl Miller from the night after the Boston game, and they have the complete post game show after the Rockets-Kings game with T-Mac's interview. It is under the special features TNT Overtime. Just a heads up for those who may have missed it last night. Peace.
Great win...The intereview with Tracy & TNT gang was great... "You guys know how it is, you don't want to be in Portland for 3 days...We're going to Vegas...It was coaches idea..." I also liked it when Tracy defended Yao ask Charles asked about Yao not being aggressive enough with tracy saying basically without someone to create, no one man can do it himself, and he's right... Damn, Yao is getting hacked and cut up...But, he can still get the ladies...
The answer to our offense is actually very simple. If Yao is in the low post, force the play to the bucket. The guards should dribble penetrate and collapse the defense. Don't force the pass into him. But when he is doubled and/or fronted, the guards should be taking the ball to the rim and looking for the layup or the dump off to Yao, or spin it back outside to the open man. In last night's game, we were at our best going to the hole. TMac and Luther did wonders for our offense forcing the action to the bucket.
This was a great comeback win for the Rockets. WE proved last night we arent giving up on this season just yet. Sunday's game vs Portland is a must win can't fall back after that huge win vs Sactown. WE win vs the blazers we will be 7-12 and right back in the thick of the west playoff race. Go Rockets!!!
I think last nght show ROX badly need a guard can do the penetration!! HEAD is on that track, but somehow he is schooled by Bibby. 1. TMAC show he is superstar. the last second 3-point in 3th was the turning point for us 2. YAO had OK game. He needs get his jumper back and was trapped in PnR when guarding B.Miller. In the late 4th, YAO did great D! several important rebounds and two blocks 3. HEAD is GREAT. 4. DA had OK game, but no idea how to pass the BALL to YAO 5. Swift getting better, keep going!
Head definitely gave us movement and energy offensively. He went inside with the basketball. Head's biggest weakness right now is not having enough experience defending players like Bibby. In my opinion, Bibby is a great, great player that not too many players in this league can stop if his shooting touch is on. The best solution is to counter him on the offensive end with a player like Head that will move and penetrate the paint and force him to D up to sap his leg strength. Head will be better when he gains the experience of playing against the league and learning player's tendancies and the nuances of their games so that he can react quicker to what they are doing.
Note to the Rocket fan at the Kings game sitting behind Rick Adleman... we frown on the Rockets dildo jersey.
A very nice win last night. Some problems: 1. We really need a true point guard. Neither Wesley nor Head is. 2. Yao took too fewer shots. Our role players took too many. 3. Our ball movement is not good. Except T-Mac, no one else should dribble that much until we find a true point guard. One good sign: Swift is getting better. I'm patient enough to waiting for the T-Mac, Yao and Swift show.
can i have some highlights in the 2nd half, i fall asleep and when i woke up it was way over, ha ha ha ha
