Do we need to give Yao the ball at half court. I mean come on you have to be able to pass the ball to Yao. I agree about the PnR being our best offense with Yao, but for some reason the Rockets are not running it as much this year. Part of the problem is Yao has never learned to seal his man behind him. If he ever learns how to keep his guy from coming around him he would be the dominant big man every one expects him to be.
You're wrong. We're going to rebuild our supporting cast REGARDLESS of what you think we should do, since the players we have now are going to be gone. We'll have roster spots to fill up. We might be able to get one quality free agent guard or something, but otherwise it will have to be done through drafts/trades. McGrady and Yao still have a few years left, and young talent won't hold them back, but will likely help them. As I said, if you can help the team with trades/moves/signings in the short-term, then great (by short term I mean this season), but let's make SURE that whatever moves we make are also for next season and the season to follow, and not just a cheap rental. That's my point...
Every team in the NBA has cheap rentals. You can't have 12 guys on 5 year contracts. You think we should sign Jalen to a multi-year deal? He's only got one more year left.
Much of what you say is true. But I don't get why JVG doesn't change his setup. Rox come up the court, Yao sets himself up, guard stops and tries to pass to Yao, defenses double or front Yao. It's so predicatable! Let's get some guard movement. Let's get Yao to the top of the key where it's harder for teams to double team because that leaves a side wide open. So many different strategies that JVG doesn't even try. On defense, why don't we have a zone defense? I'm tired of Yao chasing small guards out to the perimeter where he can't get rebounds. We have a weak side blocker, we have a huge center. Let's plant them near the key and let the smaller guards/forwards run around.
our perimeter players are such a threat that the Kings can only afford to double Yao or Tmac off the ball as opposed to tripling them. Definite improvement.
Derek Anderson is worthless, why is he playing over Luther? Also, why the hell won't JVG play a FRICKEN zone? Put Tmac and Howard at the baseline on both sides, and Yao in the middle...... I think the game has passed JVG by... DD
Its not just as simple as teaching him how to "seal off his guy"... he can do everything right, but some defender is always going to be small enough to get around him faster than Yao can react. He's gotten better at it, but the fact that he still can't keep the defender behind him after 4 years likely means he's gotta find other ways (IE - the pick and roll) The reason we haven't run the pick and roll as much this year is because Sura/Barry/Wesley were the key 3 point shooters you could not leave when you collapsed on T-mac... this year, they don't care and are daring Wesley/Anderson/BOWEN to beat them.
Nick, I am wondering: what's wrong with Yao shooting jumpers if he could make shots like Millers? What's wrong with Yao mixing his game a little bit and not locked in the low post, struggling for keeping his position?
