I sure hope the Twin Tower experiment is over. Both Howard and Asik are limited offensively while being liable to getting into early foul trouble. For example, Howard had to play the entire first quarter last night because Asik picked up two early fouls. Not to mention both players being unable to guard the 4 spot. Substituting one of another would be the best route to go, imo.
Hm, what PF on our roster is capable of guarding the 4 spot? If there is one, it's casspi, but he gets into the game early in the 1st. DMo and TJones are such a liability defensively and on the boards, we might as well sacrafice some offense to own the paint & rebounds with the TT. At least that's how i see it. For now.
No. How many field goals Dallas got while both Asik and Howard were on the floor? 4 minutes -> zero field goals. Are people freaking out because Josh McRoberts hit 2 threes (from 27 ft)? Josh McRoberts is a ~30% career 3pt shooter, should we start checking him from halfcourt now like Stephen Curry? Also, todays opponent is perfect for some TT action. Kanter and Favors are far too big and strong for Casspi for extended minutes and unlike Dirk, they also play like big men. The foul trouble thing is of course a concern but it's not like we are going to play them that much together, maybe all in all 12 minutes if even that much. I guess if there's a game where you play one of Smith/D-Mo/Jones a couple of minutes because of possible early foul trouble, this is as good a game as any for that. I think Jones should get the first shot, not because he's awesome or anything but because D-Mo and Smith were completely lost yesterday. Make them at least somewhat accountable even if it was garbage time. And we have to give the offense with Asik/Howard a chance to get better. The margins are smaller but with Harden/Parsons/Lin/Beverley/Brooks/Garcia etc. there's no reason why we can't be somewhat efficient. We are not a team like Chicago where a guard hitting a three is celebrated for a week because of its rarity.
If we beat the Spazz tonight, people, it will be their worst start since the '79-'80 season, so HELL YES!! Let's do it! Rockets by 21.
I think tonight is the perfect game for the twin towers. Both Kanter and Favors don`t really have an outside game and both biggest strengths seems to be rebounding. By playing Howard and Asik we completely nullify their strength while not being exposed on defense. Foultrouble is no problem imho. I feel fine with either of the two playing heavy minutes - and even in the tightly called game last night not both of them got into foul trouble. If they do, well play Smith. We need to try to make the twin towers work and games like tonight are a great test for that.
i haven't watched enough of this team to know if they can play well on a back to back on the road like this. i still think they will win... but... i could see this being a totally tough game from a young hungry utah squad.
