So Yao hurt his elbow in the LA game, I think it's a torn ligament in his elbow. That's what the sleeve was for. http://sports.sohu.com/20071102/n253022161.shtml Translation: Rockets defeated the Jazz 106-95, and start the season with a 2 game winning streak. Yao had 11 points 7 boards, McGrady had 47 points. Yao wore a longer white sleeve and a short black sleeve on his elbow. He was continually pulling at the white sleeve and was not comfortable with it on. "I think it's a torn ligament in my left elbow, this has happened before, it shouldn't be a big problem. I felt something in my elbow during the previous game," Yao said. Although he only shot 5/14 and had 6 turnovers, the team won, and so Yao is pleased. Certainly his stats were not "pretty", but the W is more important, and it is just one game, with 80 more to go. "What can I say? My stats can't possibly be worse than my first game (I believe he's referring to his debut as a rookie where he went scoreless)", Yao said to Sohu. "Sure the stats don't look pretty, but it can't be worse than my first game, didn't play that well, but I'm pleased that the team got the win, but when we go back I have to examine my problems. There will be more games, and I can't hang onto this game, but I need to examine my problems, and when I get back I will watch some tape." Yao then discussed why he played poorly. "I was not focused in the first half. I let Boozer score a basket, then I looked around for my man, and they were already going up for the shot already," Yao said. "I didn't prepare enough for this game. I had 3 fouls in the first half, but I thought two of them weren't fouls, the one defensive foul and the offensive foul. The second half I didn't have good rhythm, and I rushed a bit."
I think Boozer is just one of those guys who's going to get his. Yao doesn't match up with him, and he doesn't match up with Okur. I agree. Against the Jazz, Yao will just have to do his thing as best he can. Block shots, defend the basket, and score enough to make them work. Every player has teams that they have problems with. I think the Jazz fit that description for Yao. Hayes and Scola (Viva Scola!!) will play a lot of minutes against them.
I think it would just kill our perimeter defense, and hurt our interior defense as well. Yao wouldn't be capable of playing any help/rotation defense on the perimeter. And if he attempted to overplay Okur on the perimeter, Okur would just cut past him every time.
i don't remember ever seeing a 7 footer just being planted on the 3point line. i'm with durvasa, andjvg AND adelman, no way should yao ever play defense on the perimeter
Yeah, I have to do system restore in order for getting back to normal. i can't delete the defected files. when i try to or going to remove things, it's said that i'm not the adminstrator of the sytem. LOL
This is the game we would lose last year. They attacked Yao on both ends, messed up his rythm and head. But, I am really giddy that we now can put in small lineup to match up teams doing that to us. That's encouraging. Cant wait to see how we play against Suns, Warriors. We are envolving into a diverse team just like the spurs.
does anyone here has the video of where ej and kenny made fun of charles injury in a game as a rockets? something like, kenny- "i got shot! It hurts". haha
One time tonight, I saw Chuck ran out at Okur, who promptly blew past Chuck.... then promptly got stripped by Mike James or Rafer Alston about 12-15 foot from the basket. I just don't think Okur's handles are good enough for us to worry about him going from 23 feet away to the basket. I think the bigger issue might be having no one in the middle other than 6'6'' Chuck. Another thing they can do is just stop worrying about Boozer scoring. Tell Yao to play him the best he can and work on the rest of the game. Boozer scores against every team, including vs. Spurs in the playoffs when they lost 1-4. You can still beat them with him scoring. So, the question is what did the Spurs do that the Rockets didn't? Penetration from the perimeter. The Spurs didn't stop Boozer any more than the Rockets did... they do, however, have more perimeter penetration threats in Parker, Ginobili and even the ageless Finley than Houston with only TMac.
This is a game Big Yao should just wipe it out from his mind in order not to be disturbed. To have Boozer and Okur both snatching a double-double on him sure sucks. But anyway a win is a win....and it's 2 ~ 0 BABY !!! A nice start to the new season.
Boozer will always get his points, you can't shut him down. Just let Yao try to slow Boozer down as hard as possible, then excute better on the other end. Let Boozer get his 30/15, but we are very capable of stopping everyone else in that team.
Can Yao "run out" to a player on the perimeter? The reason Chuck "ran out" was because he has other defensive reponsibilities other than just sticking to Okur. When you're defending on the perimeter, you have to play help defense too and make the right rotations. Otherwise, the entire defense breaks down. That's part of it, sure. Putting Yao on Boozer is taking the lesser of two evils.
You're not a Rockets fan if you think Yao sucks. He has one bad night and people like you go ape nuts on his ass. You dont deserve to call your self a Rockets Fan, let alone be a member of this site. Would you rather have Collins as our starter? I'd like to see what have to say when Yao goes off for 50 sometime this season.
