Interesting quotes from the Jazz message board... "Well, I know it's only been one game, but the Rockets tonight looked basically like the same team the Jazz played in the spring. Scola played only eight scoreless minutes behind Chucky Hayes. Bonzi Wells played about 15 minutes and went 3/7. Francis didn't even get in the game. Mike James is a difference at the back-up PG, I guess. How is this a championship team?" "Yeah. They barely beat the Lakers. You know, the team we just blew out easily." "I noticed that too. All the "experts" were predicting big things from Scola and the Rockets. He didn't even play that much. So the Rockettes added Scola. Utah added Ronnie Brewer (I'm counting it as such since he barely played last season). Advantage: UTAH." "The Rockets looked pretty bad most of the game. With all the talk about them running they seemed pretty much like their team last year. They almost blew (choked) the game last night. They blew a 12 pt lead with 1:37 left in the game. Only a Shane Battier 3pt with 2.5 seconds left helped them win the game." "Well I only caught a few minutes of the game after the Jazz game ended, but: 3 Pointers: 6-22 .273 Heh, I'll say. I turned it off under two minutes when they were up by 10, damn I wish they would have blown it. I still say we dominate these clowns this season. I mean come on, we were still slumping heading into the playoffs last season." "At least Battier won't be able to draw all those ridiculous charge calls this year." "Yeah, Bonzi Wells and Mike James are the saviors. Keep telling yourself that." "Why do we have more Rockettes fans here than ever? Just accept the fact that TMac will never get past the 1st round and go back to your own message boards." "Yea Scola is better than Okur? Yao is better than Boozer? Battier better than AK? T-Mac better than Brew? Yes Francis better than D-will? Who says these guys are better and that they can play together. Adelman is a better coach? Who says? All those championships prove it right? They have more talent if T-mac was in his prime. They have the names we will see if they get it done." "What the crap? Boozer completely destroyed Yao in the playoffs. Yao is soft, slow, and only has like two options for scoring. He still hasn't learned to be a bruiser like Shaq and he's been around what, 5 years?. And I wouldn't even put Battier as much better than Harpring, let alone an Allstar Kirilenko. Give me a break." "BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! That is great. Line of the day. I am literally crying, I am laughing so hard..... Seriously..... Deron vs. whatever washed up pg you start. Deron is miles better than anything you have at pg. Deron is top 5 arguably top 2 pg in the league (with Nash) TMac vs. AK T Mac is great, you guys win that battle. But AK is a very, very good defensive player. IF AK plays like he did last night, say hello to DPOY and MIP. Brewer vs. Battier Wash. Same player, only difference is that one hits threes, the other dunks. If the NBA cracks down on flops, like they say they will, Battier is rendered ineffective. Boozer destroys Scola or whatever his name is. Boozer is the man, and made Yao look silly last year in the Playoffs. Memo is slightly under Yao. Utah's bench (Millsap, Harpring, Giricek, etc) is much better than Houston's. Houston is the most overrated team in the West. They are good, but not great. You aren't great until you beat somebody. You guys lost to a lower seed last year, and your leaders have never done anything except disappoint. Good luck to you." "If the Rockets are the team this year how come in the season opener they only managed to beat the Lakers with a last second Hail Mary shot? The Lakers don't have a legit NBA center or PF and were playing without Odem. Houston made Fisher look like a top 5 NBA point guard in that game. If Kobe and a bunch of scrubs can almost beat Yao, McGrady, Battier, Scola, Wells, Alston, and whoever else the Rockets think makes them a "deep" team then they still need a lot of work. Their problem last year was they needed a point guard and they still have the same problem. The Lakers 12 point run to tie it in the last minute was fueled by Houston not having a point guard. If Houston is all that, they certainly should have looked better than they did Tuesday night. Opening night against scrubs with one allstar = advantage Jazz."
mayn I was on espn says the rockets are underdogs. And the accuscore crap says that we will lose. I know the rockets are still thinking about that playoff lose and they will come out with a vengence
Keep Rafer to one floater a game and were good......we start slow this game and bring it on in the 3rd again.......Yao plays 40 minutes i am happy... Rocks-107 Jazz-86
I read the article in the Salt Lake Tribune about Houston being a challenge. The comments were good, they see us as a hard test for them.
I hope Yao doesn't have to play 40 minutes, it would be good to see him get more rest through the season.
http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_7337592# Now they suspect it is a Euro move, but should it also be Jerry Sloan / Jazzhole move? Karl Malone anyone?
If we slow start again tonight, the best we can hope for is our bench outplays theirs to give us a chance to maybe get back in the game. Our starters must play like starters tonight.
those fan quotes are funny.. they are homers for sure. heh they do realize the Rox took them to 7 games with basically 2 stars and bunch of scrubs last year?
Enough of this!! I know my opinion won't be liked but I think that to beat the Jazz you have to outscore them.In the case of the Jazz defence is not the primary focus, after all they seem to be taller than us in all but one position and our great defence didn't do much last year against them. This season we have more effective scorers ( if they are enabled to play their game) Scola,Bonzi and James if between them they can score 45 points tonight then the Rockets will win! I also want to see Snyder in Street Clothes and Landry in uniform
Yao Ming - 19 Points, 11 Rebounds, 3 Blocks Tracy McGrady - 22 Points, 8 Rebounds, 5 Assists, 2 Steals Houston Rockets - 99, Utah Jazz - 92. CLOSE GAME!!!
I almost had to give this a standing ovation in the middle of my office. I couldn't agree with you more about every point you just made. Scola needs to be more agressive offensively...Bonzi and MJ need to play the same but cut back on the TOs. And it's hard for me to fathom how they could dress Snyder over Landry. CLAP CLAP CLAP!!!
I figure we lose tonight for reasons stated by others. But what I'm curious about (and don't have time to research) is what is Adelman's coaching record vs. Sloan? I started to make a new thread about the following but decided, what the heck; just post in the game thread. But I hope someone who might be able to find info. will give it a shot. It's nice that we have an Opponent History in our stats section, but I couldn't find anything similar on the Jazz website or by Googling -- probably just didn't search with the right keywords. I think it would be interesting to see what long-term coaches, like Adelman, Sloan, Jackson, Popovich, etc. records are against one another. Especially a coach like Adelman, who has coached on three different teams. If he consistently has a similar record against the same coach no matter what teams they were each coaching at the time, it would give some insight into how well his style and philosophy fares against another coach's. Maybe someone can dig up some stats and post them.
first and foremost i hope the rockets win because i believe in the rockets.........2) utah is still a good team and a tough team team to match up with and i hope the rockets give them a run tonight to show that we are still the dark horse to win the title this year........3) i hope the rockets wont get off to a bad start and hope that your defense improves tonight to keep up with them.......4)chemistry comes together..........finally lets get another win tonight......GO ROCKETS!
I dont like them but that how it goes. If we beat Jazz last season, we would say the same thing about Boozer and Deron Lets show them the true force of a Houston Rockets
