Well, I disagree with you on Gasol there, he is the Memphis franchise player and a 20/10 guy when healthy.

ALL we need from Yao is consistency, not monster numbers. If he averages 18/10 for all his career and establishes inside presence enough to take pressure off our other players to knock down shots etc, we will be in great shape for years to come.

Is he a max player? YES! His marketing value deserves that much money, and Les will MORE THAN HAPPILY pay up, which I am OK with since I am not paying him from my own pocket. As long as Les makes a lot of revenue from our star players, and invests that money in quality players, I will be more than content with Yao getting max dollars.

Give Yao this off-season and then you guys can judge his development. Next season is the make-or-break season statistically speaking for Yao if he stays and practices in Houston during the summer, which I think he will. Whatever stats Yao puts up next season will be near the maximum production we will have from him throughout his career IMHO. I think that is realistic to say.

As for his stamina, there is nothing you can do about that, it will be there all his career, we have to adjust accordingly and accept that fact, and it doesn't mean that he can't productive and dominant during the 30 minutes a game he plays every night.

We gotta be patient with Yao, he will get there, I really believe so.

I know you are being sarcastic, but let's be realistic here: we beat the NBDL NO Hornets tonight. I don't think we can to make conclusions based on that.

Thank you... you would have made an awesome GM in this league.

Guys like Jermaine O'Neal and Tracy McGrady would have been shipped away for nothing by you, and all these other teams would be singing your praises.

No, don't fool yourself. You guys all seem to forget Shawn Marion was absent in that game. Had Marion played, Yao would have been lucky to get 20-10.

DAMN! Do all great minds think alike?;)

But the problem is I was typing my reply while you had still not posted yours, so I didn't see yours until I submitted the post. By the time I refreshed the page, there were already 3-5 new posts that came up while I was still typing.

Sounds to me like you're just making excuses to get rid of him. Why don't you take Yao for what he is? He may not be a superstar, but he's still easily one of the best centers in the league. He's only in his third season, come on! Not to mention that his "subpar" performance (12 points, 7 boards in ONLY 24 minutes) is still better than the vast majority of centers in this league put up on any given night. GGPO, Troll.

I agree Zhao, I think Yao had a nice season so far, I think the main frustration with him is that most people thought he would have made a HUGE leap from last year, averaging easily 20/10 or more. I think that is not Yao's fault that people are expecting too much from him, we have to be realistic and patient.

Besides, Zhao, we have been spoiled by Hakeem, no one is ever going to measure up to him, he is that mythical father for Rox fans.

well i see your point but you have to know that people who are criticizing him are basing their arguments in the whole season and the trends that he sets for himself and his performances. dont get me wrong im not saying im bashing yao im just explaining to you that he is a very very inconsistent player and that people are judging that correctly and not based on 2-3 games like you said

That's the thing. Gasol has always never been more than an 18/8 guy even when healthy. He has never had a defensive presence either (except maybe his rookie year)

I'm not trying to make excuses for Yao. When we drafted him, I expected us to wait 3 years before he'd even average 14 points and 7 rebounds. He's already exceeded my expectations in that respect.

Fact of the matter is, he has improved a bit each year so far. Believe it or not he's actually become more consistent too. His rookie year he would have a 30/14 game, and then a 4/3 game the next. At least now, he's stabilizing between 20/10 and 14/7 :p

I think Phil Jackson was right when he said Yao would improve incrementally each year instead of having a single "breakout" season. If in another 2 years he's just as inconsistent and still has stamina problems, then I'll consider trading him. Until then...PATIENCE.

Dude, you try dragging a 7'5", 315lb body up and down the court 60 times a game, as well as flashing out on D vs the opposing team's guards and see how you perform.

Here's a interesting scenario: Let's say Yao's a 19 and 9 player next year, and he's still hovering over average to sub-par performances like this year, I could forsee some serious complications in resigning Yao.

Think about it, Les would be justify by refusing to give Yao a Max contract that only superstars get while Yao would mighty tempted to jump ship for greener pastures (more money else where). It's not as one sided as I thought it would be in resigning Yao.

Let's hope I'm wrong, and Yao steps up to be an consistent 20 10 player next year. The keyword being consistent.

I think you should sit your fat ass out of this board.

If you think BD is worth that much, why even NO not trying to build a team around him? You think you are smarter than 90% of the GMs in the league and 95% of the fans in this board?! You are just another pathetic dumbass loser. Get outa here!!!

Shut your YOF! Unlike you I have been a rockets fan for over 22 years, and I know the history of this franchise more than you care too.

Go ahead, put the blinders on and see if that is going to help the team win a championship. Stupid ass...

Jalen Rose is getting the max, so I am not worried there with a guy the caliber of Yao.

Look, bottom line is, who is better than Yao at that position than Shaq? And Shaq is thankfully in the East. So Yao will get the max, and deservingly so, because he is better than all those overpayed scrubs in the league.

Really guys, it is a no brainer, Les will pay it, so we shouldn't have a problem with it.
