well the stats don't use crap like Hollinger ratings or crap like More geek ratins or crap like 82games.com ratings

they use something simple like a rebound that should have been gotten was it or was it not?

If not did the opposition get it?

THIS is the REAL and ONLY type of stat that matters and it pisses off those that actually understand the game when these other worthless stats are shoved in your face with all the condescending and arrogant know it all end all be all tone attached to it no less.

Which goes back exactly to the point that tipping rebounds out to teamates is a big no no but "stats gurus" will claim Battier doing so is a "plus"

Battier, Swift return to Memphis, exit with victory

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Shane Battier enjoyed the standing ovation. He liked the victory even more.

Yao Ming scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter, leading the Houston Rockets over the Grizzlies 86-80 Tuesday night in Battier's return to Memphis.

Battier spent five seasons with the Grizzlies before he was dealt to Houston during the summer. The Grizzlies handed out posters of one of their most popular players before the game.

"I wanted to win this game and not for any revenge sort of reasons," Battier said. "I had five great years here. It's not about that. I wanted to get this team off to a great start and we've already surpassed the amount of wins we had in the Southwest Division last year. It was an important game for us."

After going 1-15 against the Southwest Division last season, the Rockets are 2-0 against division rivals two weeks into November.

"That's a big step being 2-0 in the division," Tracy McGrady said. "But I'm kind of jealous of (Battier) that he can come back and get a standing ovation. I go to Orlando and Toronto and they kill (me)."

Yao scored nine of Houston's first 10 points in the final period to help the Rockets withstand a comeback try by the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies, who never led in the game, cut a seven-point lead deficit to 72-71 on a one-handed slam by Dahntay Jones over Yao early in the quarter.

The Rockets (2-2) regrouped quickly as Yao hit two free throws, Luther Head made a 3-pointer from the left corner and McGrady sank two free throws for a 79-71 lead. McGrady later added a key three-point play, driving in from the right side and making the free throw for an 84-75 advantage with 1:19 left.

McGrady had 19 points and nine rebounds for the Rockets, who overcame 24 turnovers and 42 percent shooting. Battier added 12 points in 42 minutes.

Memphis (1-3) was led by Stromile Swift, acquired in the trade for Battier. He scored 15 points. Eddie Jones added 14.

"I'm not all that happy with (Battier) that he got out of here with a win," Jones said. "But as far as the (standing ovation and poster giveaway), I can't complain. He's done so much for this franchise over the years. And his character, it's amazing."

The Grizzlies, playing without All-Star forward Pau Gasol, were unable to stop the Rockets' interior game. Houston had 36 points in the paint and outrebounded the Grizzlies 45-33.

"The way we rebounded the ball was disgusting," Jones said.

Memphis made a run to start the third quarter. Mike Miller hit consecutive 3-pointers to tie the game at 45-, but the Rockets answered with nine straight points, mostly coming off second-chance opportunities.

The Grizzlies trailed by 11 before Jones scored 13 of their final 16 points to trim a nine-point deficit to 45-39. Jones hit a fallaway 3-pointer in the left corner to end the half.

Game notes
Swift, whose knee and ankle injuries forced him to miss most of training camp and the Grizzlies' first three games, was activated before the game. Swift entered early in the first quarter. ... Miller, the Grizzlies' second-leading scorer at 18.7 points per game, was held scoreless in the first half. He attempted only two shots in 16 minutes. He finished with 10 points. ... Miller snapped his scoreless string with consecutive 3-pointers to open the third quarter, but was whistled for a technical foul after missing his third and complaining of a no-foul call.

I

I saw Yao tipping the ball or getting the ball stripped far too often for my liking. The problem is not about actual rebounding figures for Yao, but the fact that he is not protecting the defensive boards effectively. We may have won the rebounding war as a team the last few games, but we also gave up quite a few second chances, which quite frankly, would of cost us games if we were up against better teams. I have no idea what was in Yao's mind except for conserving energy or trying to stay out of foul trouble.

As for t-mac, he is still a shade of his former self, but at least he seemed much more interested in driving to the hoop, at least compared to any of the past games this season and preseason.

Snyder did not have a good game, but neither did many of our players. This is what I like about this team, we don't need to play well to win because we have enough talent to do that. If a Yao/T-mac can carry our team to 50+ wins in 04-05 with much less talent, think about what they can do now.

Also, Rudy Gay looked pretty good the couple of times I saw him. We need to trade Juwuan for a legite rebounding/defensive PF. I'm not being a J-Ho hater, but the role he plays now (backup c) negates his strength as a midrange jump shooter. Just my 2 cents.

that Dahntay Jones dunk was sick

thank god Yao gave him space and did not interact, causing a foul or hurting him self would have just been crazy

game sucked last night, some players still looked rusty, but we are getting there

even tho McGrady missed many shots I really liked him yesterday, He looked fresh, tried some things out, smiled a lot, a good sign

Yaoza stayed out of foul trouble, he looked good, still made some stupid decisions...

Alston was ok, made a decent job

Battier did good...

Padgett is just wasting our rookies time....he can't contribute to this team yet

Hayes, was awesome, each game he is getting better, I can see him starting next to Yao in every game, he is exactly the guy we need

Head and Snyder....

I went to the game last night and the Rockets pulled out the victory. Memphis fans were not hateful at all toward any Rockets or the Rocket fans. They even complimented players numerous times. They were happy that the Grizzlies were double and triple teaming Yao sometimes. They would yell out "That's the only way you're gonna stop him!" or "Put four guys on him and the other on McGrady!" They said some other nice things about McGrady, Battier, and even setiments toward Mutombo after he went through what he went through. I give the Memphis crowd props.
