I've been saying all along...Yao just needs to get more comfortable in the NBA. He was born in China; most of the players were Chinese and he was better than all of them. There are no questions asked when he tells his teammates what to do.

In America...i think he just doesn't feel comfortable ordering people around and yelling at them to do this and do that. It's not his country. He's a very respectful person and i have little doubt he wants to be on everyone's good side. Give it time; when he establishes himself in the NBA and performs like a true superstar, he'll have the confidence to lead the team and maybe even call out his teammates (not really a good thing but since you all wanted some leadership lol).

    see: Olympics

    sorry about the double post.

p.s he did jack some shots up in the olympics. He took all the shots he could get given the amount of times he got the ball from the trigger happy chinese guards.

People have mentioned this before, but the NBA is just a job for Yao. He's never going to exhibit the same kind of passion and leadership qualities as he does when he plays for the CNT. He'll do his part, but the rest is "not his job".

stats may not lie....but they certainly dont tell the whole story....

kinda like your rant doesnt either....

btw....to those that are still making up conspiracy theories as to why Yao was sitting on the bench for so long...go back and read Deuce's post ont he subject.....

he is spot on the money.....no other reasons need to be looked at....Deuce just explained it to you.

just another in a long line of great insightful posts...wtg Deuce.

JVG also wanted to reward Deke and sent a message to Yao that you have to be tough enough to send the other team's best player off the court by using your elbow.

Tying in a little late here, but I watched the game last night on the dish and saw the Cleveland broadcast. A few comments from their announcers that I found interesting.

They said that JVG brought in a better game plan than the Cavs did. Specifically, the Cavs had scored 38 fast break points in the last two games, and the Rockets shut that down.

They commented on how well the Rockets defense rotated and the the Cavs were not getting the open looks they are used to. Then added, that is a quality of a JVG team.

With about 3-5 minutes left in the game, (you may recall the game was getting tight) one announcer said JVG just told TMac to find Yao Ming. (Which by the way, he did, Yao Ming scored and we all felt better around here).

Lastly, my opinion as to why JVG kept Yao Ming on the bench so long. Something about how Yao looks tired at the end of games. JVG wanted him strong if needed. I'm glad he was rested, because he was needed, and he did look strong at the end of the game.

    Quality win.

How many times have we seen announcers for other teams completely miss how Rockets perform on a consistent basis, based on watching one game in progress?

T-mac was looking for his shot like a man possessed. I think he was determined, after the game against the Bucks, to not allow the Rockets to lose. I think his pride was injured. That's why he was taking so many shots. He took it upon himself and wasn't going to have to depend on anyone else, including Yao. So Mark Price sees T-mac taking all the shots in the 4th and decides,"what a ball hog". I am very thankful that someone had the cods to step up.

If there is one thing Yao doesn't have at this point, its consistent intensity. If Van Gundy can get good minutes out of Deke, while Yao is getting rest on the bench, then that's great. I would rather have an intense Yao for the last half of the 4th rather than what ever you want to call Yao's play when he is not agressive for the whole quarter.

For whoever questioned it, yes, I'm a Yao fan, but I couldn't care less about his personal stats if the Rockets win. It is frustrating to watch a guy his size appear to be so damn weak. Anyone, and I mean anyone can keep Yao from dunking. Once he gets his hands on the ball, he should be able to complete the dunk whether someone hacks him or pushes him. He goes to the free throw line so many times for two shots, when it should be for an "and one".

I don't like bashing Yao, and I can't remember ever doing it before, although my memory fails me more often, but I think the YOF want to lower the expectations for Yao, just so he won't be criticized. He may be some kind of national hero to alot of you YOFs, but to the rest of us, he is an NBA player for the Rockets and we want him to play to his potential, not some artificially low expectation.
