was their arguments being bandied around on Dragic and Lowry being Allstars when they were Rox players...? yes its all based on opinions... but most Rox fans seem to have lots of opinions that running to the 3 point line to shoots 3s... is easy to compare to having multiple screens set for you...and a hugely innovative Idea of being allowed to play PG for your team...
Well, not completely useless - but maybe....95%? Enjoy some light reading: Berri explained the problem: "We can also see how well PER explains wins with a simple regression of team wins on a team’s PER. The results indicate that PER only explains 33% of team wins. You can do better if you add the team defensive measures used in Wins Produced. Those factors increase explanatory power to 55% (if you weigh the team defensive factors as they are in Wins Produced) or 82% (if you allow the weights of each individual factor to vary). Either way, PER does not explain 95% of team wins (as we see with Wins Produced). In sum, PER is a model that is not theoretically sound (yes, it over-values inefficient scoring) or empirically sound (it doesn’t explain wins)."
Was posting on ESPN boards back then, but consensus was both were borderline all-stars at worst. Lowry or Gragic would easily shoot those 3's at a greater %. Plus finish better at the rim, have less TOs, better defense. 6th Man of the Year!! Nah Beverley would probably start. No knock on Lin.. they are supposed to be better.
BMO Harris Bradley Center will be packed with red jerseys but they sure ain't gonna cheer on the Rockets. It's American Heart Association Night! Show you hearts Rockets and blow the Bucks off their stadium.
It's interesting how you attribute an increase in PER, which is a per minute stat, to an increase in minutes.
Well, I went back to see what opinions on Lowry were on this board a few years back - only 12% thought he would ever be an allstar. But this is the most interesting thing, a post by Chenjy9: 'The problem is we cannot put Brooks on the bench right now because our bench lacks too much discipline. We NEED Lowry to come off the bench with our secondary unit to keep them in check and keep our offense from going out of control. Yao, Scola, and Battier knows what they are suppose to do. Artest generally does as well. Brooks can actually do OK in this environment because he does not need to make decisions; the real starters can make them for him.' funny how history repeats itself.
ANother example by DaDakota, a very good poster here. This is from 2010 about Lowry: "Has" always been a career backup.....but his CEILING is a starter if he can improve his shot....and consistency. He has had some really good games against some really bad teams.....if he could do it against the CP3s, Rondos, Dwills, and Roses of the game he might unseat Brooks. But right now, Lowry is doing what he has always done, feasted on weaker opponents, it is why he is so effective off the bench. DD it all sounds so familiar - and he was not alone back then. So, no, I don't buy that the consensus was that Lowry was a borderline allstar on this or any other board. Similarly, we don't know exactly what Lin's ceiling is - if I had to guess for all 3 PG's I would say Dragic's ceiling is top 4, Lowry top 7or 8, Lin top 11-12. Ok, I'll stop highjacking the game thread now.
they are clearly putting up better numbers than Lin... and their are just better PGs/players then Lin in the league for most Lin fans that is not the issue... most LOFs dont see him as the next MJ or a superstar player... which many of the haters believe LOFs think they see him as a player looked over and marginalized his whole career only to sign onto a team that has basically signed him as a gimmick and an expiring contract to not have strong opinions would be like watching the Jessie Owens and hoping he got blown out of the Berlin Olympics or watching Jackie Robinson and hoping he washed out of the big leagues or watching the Rudy Ruettiger and hoping he just went home instead of getting to play in 1 play in 1 game
HAHA! Something I should know? Anyways, I could have picked any # of posts that were similar - the point being that the overwhelming consensus on this board by vote was that Lowry's ceiling was: B) Good starting PG, capable of making the first team on a contender(59%) then C) Borderline starter/Good rotation player on most teams (29%) and finally A)Very good starting PG capable of making 1 or 2 allstar games (12%) That's far from what Houstanna claimed in an earlier post.
You do know Lowry was a borderline all-star for the Rockets right? When were those numbers posted? Kyle Lowry had two monster seasons ever since becoming a starter for the Rockets. In fact, here is a video of the Inside the NBA guys pointing out Lowry as one of the snubs. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/1ZbL5n8ovN0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
