And that's only their 2nd string FT defenders. Wait til their starters come out.

V-span may be the backup PG this year......and the closer too....I love the way he plays, and his vision is the best on the team.

I thought he would take at least a year to be a contributor and I remember JVG saying he didnt understand what CD saw in V-span....bet he does now.

This was a game where the Rockets looked really disinterested. Yao still needs to work his way back and McGrady was just off. In fact, the shooting was WAY off. First good game from V-Span and Novak can shoot - like we didn't know.

Josh Howard was killing us and that is a familiar problem. But, I'm not worried about our defense at this point.

V-span is a kind of smart player, he will grow very fast like Yaoming.
Lets wait and see it happens.

Lets not get too excited about Spanoulis. He did well, but it's against the scrubs. I still think Luther Head is gonna end up with more of the backup PG minutes than Spanoulis, at least to start the season.

Spanoulis might be a nice player to put up there in there if the regulars are stuck in a rut, though.

It's good to see Battier with no fouls tonight... but did he do well defensively to warrant the zero point, 4 rebound performance?

I thought it was interesting that JVG started the game with Chuck Hayes at PF. The Rockets didn't exactly come out of the gate strong ... maybe that's why he changed the lineup to start the third.

I expected the Rockets to just destroy the Mavs with Yao back, and none of their stars (othe than Howard) playing. Hopefully it's just a matter of the Rockets getting used to playing with eachother in the next couple weeks. The McGrady-Yao-Battier trio didn't appear to have great chemistry first game out.

Perhaps I just missed it, but he didn't seem to distinguish himself in any way. The Rockets half court offense needs work. He only got one field goal attempt. We should get him at least a couple three point attempts a game.

I was at the game for the first half - here are my comments.

Yao- tentative to post up and drive on his man. He still needs to get into rhythm by dribbling and showing the ball to defenders. At this time, he either got stripped or turned it over.

Snyder - really athletic. He had a nice dunk put back. He had several drives, but he was unable to finish.

Spanoulis - crazy quickness..pesky like Beno Udrich. He has an ugly looking shot.

Haryaz - crashed the boards. maybe nice addition to practice squad/IR.

Alston - has NO outside shot. Why is this guy on our team?

Perhaps cuz tomorrow's a back-to-back game that some of the starters coasted along. We all know what we're gonna get out of T-mac and Battier. Yao needs some conditioning and game speed. Rafer needs...well...let's just hope he's actually gotten better and is coasting along himself....

I'd like see a lineup of:
    Kill Bill
    Snyder
    Hayes
    Battier
    Dikembe
To see some elbows fly. Figure in Sura and Rybo, and there's your 7 man grit lineup... :p

Yeah, shooting 50 percent from the floor and behind the 3-point line for the preseason is awful. He had a bad night, but even going 1-5 and 0-1 from three, he's still at 50 percent from the floor.

I'm not a big Alston fan or anything, but at least check the stats.

Geez some of you guys are a hard crowd to please. Yeah it's Vspan's first decent game. And most certainly he is going to have more bad games. But did you honestly think he would play anything close to this type of game tonight. He is a rookie he just flew into a new country and is playing in a new league with new rules and much different offense and defensive schemes and he already seems to be the best defensive PG we have. He looked good against the first unit in the first half and only continued that in the second half and actually got better in crunch time which is definitely his motif lest you forget the name KillBill.

Oh and for those he quickly forget this is basically the same squad that stunk up the place in the first preseason game. I think it is safe to say he is adapting faster most ever dreamed of. But above all of that the kid seems to be aleader on the court who wants to do whatever it takes to win and that is something to be excited about.

I didn't see the game but looking at the box score man this game looks terrible on paper. Sure we won but man none of their studs were playing except Josh Howard and he tore us up. Not to mention that our starters played significant minutes AND WE BARELY SQUEEKED BY!

Can anyone verify this suckiness or make me feel better by disproving it with their insight watching the game.

Good point, considering Sura's career may be over, and Rybo was just anointed by Hollinger as the 2nd worst player in the NBA, so he may very well be cut.
