[Clutchfans Game Thread] Preseason: Rockets vs Mavericks 10/17/06

umm...

 

Looks like the Rockets just gotta hit some shots (including FTs... 50% from the line?!)... at least they are defending OK.

 

Some 1st half observations...

Yao still needs some more time to get his shot down. Seems kind of odd though because he was pretty much automatic during the World Championships with that turnaround from the baseline.

A lot of our problems on defense can be attributed to the 2-3 zone we were playing. Not positive, but I don't think we've played a 2-3 all preseason.

V-Span looked much better tonight. Much more in control and even hit an open three, one of the only open threes we hit in the half.

Pretty much everyone was off during the first half. TMac and Yao couldn't hit much, and we also turned the ball over a number of times. For now I'll just use the excuse that we need to get used to having Yao in the lineup.

Oh, and Josh Howard is one lucky biatch.

Could the instruction be for the Rockets players to make sure Josh looked good in preseason so that Cuban will have to overpay him? It worked for the Rockets and Cato, right?

 

Ms. Alston. Arent you supposed to be cleaning up after your hubby's bricklaying fest? Or still caught up in last season's mess?

 

Mostly a game of reserves so far but nice to see the Rockets keep it at a pace that suits them and not have it get out of hand with a Maverick fast-paced high scoring affair. If they'd bury their looks (Rafer), then it'd be better.

V-span goes from completely lost and out of control 13th man into starting point guard with one quarter of good ball...Be glad that he's adjusting and its another player to have potentially who will contribute. Not so fast on him starting. I'm likeing what he's lending for sure. Heck I liked what he was lending even when he was struggling. You can see he has some skill, just has to put it together

 

Rafer and Mac will get it going in the 2nd half

 

If Yao sucks, what about TMac?

Doesn't really matter, just getting a look at some of bench players, shooting has been off and free throw shooting has been terrible. V Span has looked pretty good

 

what's with shane? he looks kind of lost out there; very few touches, and when he did, he gives it up too eagerly

 

VSpan would be our starter in 25 games.

He is the biggest steal this summer.

 

Shane does have a history of disappearing here and there. Especially in playoffs.

 

I wonder how much of this terrible outside shooting and bad free throwing we are seeing is attributable to the new ball?

Good point. Especially considering the fact that last season we just couldnt miss.

send juwon to the knicks, knicks send richardson to the nugz, nugz send joe smith to us.

smith is an ending contract and a decent backup center. rox also clear room for hayes and novak.

nugz get a shooter for a guy who isn't gonna play for them. knicks balance thier roster; bad contract for shoter bad contract.
