Rose colored glassses? NO! It can't be true? :D Hmmm... Yes, it does exist in other realms. As does it happen to Homers. But the problem is when it starts to blind you from the real issues (in debate and dicussion about the TEAM).

That's when it gets out of hand and must be adressed; when it starts to influence the "critical" debates about the TEAM.

Let me add another question for all the "homer" fans out there. When the Oilers moved to Tennessee, how many of you still rooted for them versus rooting for the Texans a couple years later? Did that make you a bad fan just because you identified more with your area versus the actual team itself? Another question, if the Rox pack up and left for another town, would you still follow them or would you root for the new team that replaces them? Most likely the latter, so in other words you are a "Houston-only" fan, not an actual "Rockets fan". If you fall into this category, you are being extremely hypocritical when you dont consider "Yao-only" fans to be "real" fans, because you're actually more alike than you realize. I followed the Rox since I was 11 from NYC because of Hakeem, and if they moved to Tallahassee, I'd still follow them because I am a Rox fan, not a "Houston-only" fan. Think about that next time you post.

Problem is, I have always tried to speak to you and answered your posts in "basketball" language, I referred to plays, or stats that are nothing else but basketball facts. I have never been personal in my posts so what gives you right to right to jump out and start labelling me?

I do want to talk about basketball here, but may I remind you, it is YOU who started all the talk about race price and so (something that is absolutely irrelevant to the basketball, I am sure). Not me.

Homer is a term used to decribe an undying loyalty towards a team regardless of how the play. Completly biased.

If you talk about the team in a critical way, a "Homer" will defend the Rockets players, coaches, mascot, you name it. It's completly and utterly "personal." No matter what. Subjective!

I'm from Houston. But not a "homer." I'm objective about Houston sports; be it the Texans, Comets, Astros, or Rockets.

I like my definition better, your way makes them seem like the naieve boyfriend whose gf is constantly cheating on him, but yet he still goes back to her each time regardless of what everyone else says lol

j/k This thread realy is getting too serious though. I think I made a good point about the Houston-Only fans and the Yao-Only fans versus the real Rockets fans. I'll make a post about it later on, and see what everyone else says about it. I'll be looking for your opinion :p

If your "point" if Yao-only fans are "true" fans. Then yes. They are fans.
But if they chose to engage in a debate about basketball, then Yao-only bias can't enter the debate. That is just as bad as Francis-only fans. They do exist.

You should have heard the Francis or Rudy fans a few years back...they defend them no matter how bad we played.

    They are scarce these days.

You're preaching to the choir bro, I have very little patience for people who can't see beyond one person when it comes to talking about a TEAM sport like basketball. I also do actually agree with a lot of what you said today, I just thought the approach wasn't the most sensitive way to do it, though when you talk about issues like race, there is never a good way to do it. I did get the impression though (and if you re-read what you wrote, you might also agree) that you tend to think of Yao fans as being ignorant about basketball and only are here because Yao is Chinese. I don't know if that was your intention, but thats what I got initially. Most Chinese people would be offended by that since basketball has been in China almost as long as its been in the U.S. and Jordan was practically God in China.

Well, just be aware that being Chinese, and a Yao fan because of it, is OK.

But they have to be careful when discussing the issues regarding the Houston Rockets. In the end, the TEAM will win the championship. Not one player. They can't just use their love for Yao as a excuse to bash other players.

P.S. I did not mean to make it seem like I was implying that they are ignorant about basketball, but rather blinded by their bias toward Yao. There's a difference. Homerism can do the same thing.
