Yao currently averages 2.01 blocks in 30.7 minutes. At that rate, he'd have to play 38.2 minutes to average 2.5 blocks. I have my doubts that he'll ever get that many minutes. On the other hand, he's averaging 3.4 blocks in april. He seems to have turned a corner on the defensive end. Lately I've seem a number of plays where I didn't think he could make a block, since he hadn't in the past, and he got it. Hopefully he can keep it up.

    Hi Sooner423,

Are you from Oklahoma, or OU? I used to hate Sooners, since I'm Cowboy fan. Yes I'm from OSU. However since I moved to California, I become Sooners fan. Well that's OK thing, right.

Still hurt that d*#@ USC game. Her we call them the University of Second Choice.

    Good weekend,

Yao just needs to try to block more. Sometimes a guy will drive toward him, and Yao will look like he's about to commit, and then he just pulls out and tries to just hold his ground. The indecision usually leads to a bump, a foul, and 3-point play. He needs to realize that he can block Lorenzen Wright's shot, and there's no need to fear a call in that situation. In fact, I'm confident if he starts blocking more shots, he'll get away with more contact. Deke usually gets a whole lotta arm when he rejects someone, but the refs let it go cause they know he is a shotblocker.

One of the thing's I found most encouraging about this game is that the Rockets did not relax after they built their lead in the second half. This bodes well for the playoffs.

I wonder if NJ and NYC is kicking themselves in the butt for not utilizing Mutumbo better than they did which was not at all.

DENVER media is really had to believe their team lost 28 pts to houston. they keep saying because absence of Camby and back-to-back they lost the game.

Also they said TMAC just like to play with DENVER, and they really don't understand why. they said back in Orlando, TMAC can score 50 pts w/ NUGGETS.

I don't know where you are getting your info from, but Deke was not a free agent last summer. He wasn't involved in any sign and trade (Wilks was the one that was signed and traded). He was traded to Chicago from New York in the Jamal Crawford deal (Crawford was signed and traded too) earlier in the summer, and then was moved here via trade.

    Let's just set everything straight.

He was traded from Philly to Jersey for Keith Van Horn and Todd MacCullogh. New Jersey then bought out his contract (or just released him outright, I'm not sure). New York signs him to the MLE. New York trades him to Chicago get Jamal Crawford. Chicago trades him to us for Piatkowski, Griffin, and Wilks (who we first resign to a one year deal to make salaries match).

He is not listed by Patricia Bender as having any team option following this year. She could be incorrect.

    You are right

Deke's contract was bought out by the Nets:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1630607

Then, Deke signed with the Knicks reportedly (according to RealGM) a 3-year contract worth nearly $10 million.

Then, Deke's contract was packaged to the Bulls so NYKnicks can acquire Jamal Crawford. Then, Deke was traded to the Rockets.

Apparently, he comes off the books this off season. Here is where I got my info:

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/salaries/teamdetail.aspx?year=2004-05&team=9

According to this site, we have the following players coming off the books this off season:

    Mutombo, Dikembe $ 4,496,434

Baker, Vin $ 3,500,000 (It says 2004-05 player option, not sure what that means)

    Barry, Jon $ 1,800,000

    Bowen, Ryan $ 807,046

Padgett, Scott $ 807,046 (Also says 2004-05 player option, again, I don't know what that means)

    Barrett, Andre $ 385,277

Of course, it seems like there are discrepancies between the different sites, so I don't know who is right and who is wrong. But this much we know for sure: Deke will be a FA this off season, and Rockets will need to sign him.

BTW, interesting stat here: the Rockets are the 13th team in the league as far as payroll is concerned:

    http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/nba/salaries/totalpayroll.aspx?year=2004-05

I will start a new thread on this later on.

This game made my night last night. I had so much to brag about while out with some friends.

This was, by far, one of the best games of the season. It was one of the most exciting games. Definetly a top 3. Perhaps after the Spurs and suns game.

Last nights game was totally awesome. I was in the Lexus Lounge and I got pictures with Darius McCrary (Eddie Winslow from Family Matters) and those two really fat guys from the movie, The Cookout. (One of them was the son in Nutty Professor..Hercules, Hercules!) Anyways, after the game we hung around waiting for the players to leave. We waited until we saw Tmac leave and me and my friend left. Some how his dad got us a parking pass where the players park. We got a picture with Tmac and I was like damn good game...I'm ready for the playoffs. TMac didn't say much...maybe because he was still hurting from that shot he took in the nuts. Anyways, it was soooo badass. I hope to have pictures up soon!

Behind Yao there is another Rocket player who is also jumping up and trying to defend the other direction.
