    "Natural 4?" No...

Cato is being opportunistic. JVG is playing Cato at 4 due to necessity.

Cato is a very good backup center.

Brand, Malone, and Garnett are "natural 4s."

At least you are an old Mobley hater. Back again I see.

It is like the ancient English tale of the Lancasters and the Yorks. Let us do battle as Mobes goes behind the back... to pass to Francis... and prove the haters wrong.

First Look At The Guards:New Steve, Old Cat, and WTF Moochie...

Thus far in the game, two important things seem to have become important, one for the better, one not so much. A third has been almost bizarre

The good: Steve is looking like an entirely new player, in terms of mindset; he's hustling on defense, distributing the ball willingly to Yao when he's on the floor, and taking charge when he's not. In the halftime interivew TNT aired, Steve once again seemed to reiterate the fact that he has not changed his game, saying that Jeff Van Gundy is 'cool', because 'people were all saying that he was going to ask me to play differently', but alluding to the fact that this hasn't taken place.

Well, if that's true, then someone else has gotten to Steve on Jeff's behalf, because he seems to be playing very differently than last year. Possibly some of it is just a natural increase in respect for Yao's game and off season improvement, possibly some of it is simple maturity, and possibly some of it is just opening night good behaviour, but thus far in the game Steve has shown all the things we have been hoping he would this year. Aggression and intelligence, previously mutually exclusive elements in Steve's game, have seemed to have been fused together, which is a great sign. One lesson he could still learn from watching Denver's guards, both Miller and Boykens, is the art of lead guards penetrating just a little in order to create better passing lanes to the big man inside. Steve still seems to be an either/or guy...either penetrate to score, and only pass is absolutely necessary, or pass from the perimeter.

The bad: Mobley has seemed to have missed the meetings wherein Steve got the message. He has repeatedly jacked up ill advised shots, ignoring Yao et al underneath, and he actually scored on a dunk which resulted from his not having gotten back on defense. He made a three which came off of great inside outside offense, and a smart pass from Yao, but far too many of Cat's shots tomight have been of the old variety; have ball, will shoot. His passing has been lazy and sluggish, and his defense has been decent. It's early, and everbody has bad games, but considering that this is opening night, when the lessons the coach has taught are most freshly ingrained in players' minds, and his poor play is the result not of cold dhooting or physical errors, but mental mistakes and poor judgement, long Cat's Achilles' heels. It does not bode well for Cat's fitting into what we are trying to do...

The ugly: I don't have the words to describe Moochie's play for much of tonight...simply have to be seen to be believed. I have honestly seen playground players who seemed to have more command of the game then Moochie did tonight. If this is a sign of things to come, the only way moochie will see significant minutes this year is in the event of some kind of bus crash,m or something equally tragic. He settled down a bit in the second half, but man, was that 1st half something to see...
