    uh u need a TEAM to win ANY game, not just the playoffs. 30, 7, 6, 45% fg, 34% 3pt, 1.7spg, 1.5bpg => not good?

why are u mad about what i said? i never said yao is a DECOY. if that's the case, we're stupid to make him a decoy. 16 shots a game PLUS 10+ fts a game. plus the touches he'll get and he has to pass out from double teams. he'll get PLENTY PLENTY of touches. no one is making yao to be a decoy. if u saw the dallas series 2 yrs ago, yao got PLENTY PLENTY of chances when he was on the floor and tmac still got his. if yao doesn't get in foul trouble, he'll get his chance to shoot 20+ times EVERY NIGHT.

so don't be offended. you're crazy if u don't think JVG will put the ball in tmac's hands. tmac is still smarter than yao as a basketball player and has more experience. and like u said, yao never had a chance to be the main guy yet. why put him in that position in the playoffs when we already have a guy who has been the main guy. now that tmac has a good team, he's not gonna force anything but play to the best of his ability to help his team.

yao fans are so easily offended. when i say tmac is the first option in playmaking, that means he could end up w/ 16 shots and yao 25 but that still means tmac is the first option. why? he starts all the plays. the ball goes to him first. but he doesn't have to shoot it. get it?

Still living in the past? With Yao's improvment in the past two years,
is it even a question that he should dominate the so-called 'playoff
    defense' ?

Depending on the opponents, the team should be able to play with
either players as the first option. It is rather silly to designate a
single player as the first option when you have two dominating stars.
In fact, even Head could be the first option if he is having his day.

again, yao CAN. but he has to prove it? like u guys do the same w/ tmac having to prove he has to win a series.

look at carmelo anthony. GREAT GREAT reg. season stats. have u seen how he has performed in the playoffs? HORRIBLE.

i'll see how yao does v. the jazz in the first round b4 saying anything. he has the ability, but can he DOMINATE EVERY GAME?

what's so hard to understand? i'm fine w/ tmac taking 15 shots a game brother. but all i'm saying is he's gonna be our guy w/ the ball everytime b/c he's our best decision maker. if yao gets position and has single coverage, he will shot 30 times if he has to. what's wrong w/ what i said?

did you watch the game tonight???????????? is this the same tmac "bricklayer" as he was earlier in the season?

rox win only if tmac and yao play like superstars in the playoffs, not this stupid bs, yao is number one option, or nu uhh, tmac is

they don't seem to know tmac is our best decision maker. i think they want yao to run PG too and give himself the ball :D

yao will get his don't worry. look at his usage rate - it's like 30+ while tmac is 32. RELAX.

Yao didn't get enough chances in the Dallas series. His 21 ppg were hollow. They resulted from McGrady being triple teamed. He was not dominant, he didn't affect the game, and ultimately he didn't prevent the Rockets from losing. He was a glorified decoy. The Dallas series is NOT a good example of how Yao should be used.

What is McGrady's experience as the main guy? How many playoff series has he won? Zero. Extenuating circumstances aside, you cannot deny the fact that he has won ZERO PLAYOFF SERIES. NONE. Do you really want to replay the experience of a guy who has won ZERO PLAYOFF SERIES? Maybe, just maybe, they need to try something else to get him to win in the playoffs?

Now I didn't say Yao should initiate the offense every time. Shaq didn't either a lot of the time; he was most deadly on the quick flash into the paint and off offensive rebounds, both instances when he gets excellent position and can't be quickly doubled. However, Yao has demonstrated that he can indeed carry the team as the main scorer and ballhandler in the post, so he can do this in stretches. McGrady seems to be back to a state where he will shoot almost every time he has the ball. His shot selection today was pretty bad, and his percentages were also pretty bad.

This is why we denigrate and hate Kobe, the "selfish uncoachable ballhog", remember? The last few games McGrady has played like that. If being "aggressive" means jacking up as many bricks as he wants, I don't want McGrady to be aggressive, because then he becomes Kobe. If the offense consists of McGrady jacking up shot after shot after shot, with an occasional Yao post-up, then this is 2004-2005. The Rockets lost in the first round.

Certainly the offense they ran (super slow, all Yao post-up all the time) after McGrady went out is sub-optimal. However, the offense they ran after Yao went out (more free-flowing, McGrady has a free pass to shoot as much as he wants) is also sub-optimal. There needs to be a balance between the two. If you remember, the last few games before McGrady got injured (against GS, against Washington) Yao and McGrady were figuring it out and were playing very well together. This needs to happen again.

What I am worried about is what ToothYanker is worried about; that if McGrady has the ball all the time he will shoot too much and Yao will become a decoy. Certainly if Yao were healthy, the last few games would confirm this. However, Yao is still not back yet, so I think we should give them a few more games to work it out.

And doublehh: YES, YAO CAN DOMINATE EVERY GAME. Look at the stretch where he put up 38/11/6, and then 2 games later 38/18/2, and then 35/15/8/4, and then 32/10/5, and then 34/9/5. If this is not "dominant", than what is this?

Damn! Someone has to bring the 1st option and 2 option discussion back again. Who really care? I thought we are through the that discussion.

i agree, yao will be used more effectively than the dallas series and he should. tmac will get his same stuff in the playoffs but if yao can elevate his game to 27-12 in the playoffs, houston is in great shape. but

and how does tracy shoot alot when he has the ball in his hands? yao didn't play that many mins in that dallas series and tmac still avged 7 assists? certainly that didn't come all from yao, which means even when he had the ball all the time, he PASSED. what is this w/ tmac ballhogging all of a sudden?

tmac ADMITTED himself after the game tonight. when yao is back fully in shape, he'll get more touches. he admitted the team needs yao's dominance to win in the playoffs. that is all true.

all i'm saying is tmac will decides much of the offensive action. that is all.

and again, THOSE ARE REG. SEASON GAMES. i pointed out carmelo anthony as a perfect example. he has choked BIG TIME in the playoffs as his stats fell off across the board.

playoff defense is TOUGHER than reg. season defense. i know yao has the ability to do it, but can he? will he get into foul trouble in the playoffs to stop him from doing that? will he struggle from the hard and fast double teams in the playoffs? remember, playoffs and reg. season is DIFFERENT. don't compare games v. bad defensive teams like the lakers/warriors/blazers to the playoffs.

again i know yao can do it. i hope he does it. this team needs him at his best to do ANYTHING important. tmac alone is not enough. his career has proven that.

Now that is as close as using YOF to support your argument. I don't think everyone disagree with you are Yao's only fans, they can be McGrady's fans too, it happen that they disagree with you.

ok, this isn't about whether who should be first option or not, like you said... but if you're going to fault tmac for his play tonight, then you're pretty out of line. he was aggressive, got the ball in people's hands, and scored. I dunno how you can say he played a bad game, unless you feel it is a diss to YOF's that tmac is scoring more than yao. who cares. yao can score 50 and tmac 20, who cares.

damn people, rox crushed them tonight, and someone has to pick a bone on who should be the 1st option

obviously there are tmac fans too, but i respect yao. he's a humble superstar and that's hard to find. he's a hard-worker who cares for the team, which is rare. houston is lucky to have a guy like yao.

but when i say yao isn't first option, they think it's "shot attempts," which is absurd. secondly, they don't want the ball in tmac's hands alot b/c he'll shoot? then who the hell u want the ball? yao can't play point.

they're both unselfish and they'll both know during the flow of the game who should attack more. ALL I HAVE BEEN SAYING IS THAT TMAC IS THE MAIN DECISION-MAKER. i believe that's "first option" in my mind b/c he dictates the tempo.

but yao is our most efficient scorer b/c he is a mismatch every night and when he does well, it makes it easier for the team. tmac recognizes that and when he sees yao gets good position and single coverage, yao will get TONS of touches.

Guys please stop here. This '1st option 2nd option' topic has been beaten
to death. We'll let JVG decide. As stubborn as he is, I bet he has more
basketball savy than most IDs in this board.

If the Rockets won a blowout and Yao had 10 turnovers, I'd fault him for his 10 turnovers. I'm not saying that McGrady hurt the Rockets tonight. I'm saying that McGrady's shot selection leaves a bit to be desired.

tmac has said it himself. he shot a lot (esp. in the cavs game) b/c yao is not ready. as we progress more towards the playoff, you'll see a change. and REALLY, take all the garbage time that JVG let tmac play to stat-pad, tmac again didn't take a lot of shots. he did controlled the tempo of the game which is the main thing.

is this the same tmac as earlier in the season? that is a unequivocal NO.

no way in hell am I going to take tmac from early on in the season compared to this months tmac or today's game tmac. yao will get better, and tmac should never ever play like the "decoy" he was earlier in the season.

superyanthrax, you're making it blatantly obvious that you resent the fact that tmac is the main focus and that yao is the complement. its the way it should be. he just got back from his injury. do us all a favor and back the **** up.
