I'm pretty sure that no matter how bad Derek Anderson's attitude was, he wouldn't miss six straight layups (as Mr. Bogans did tonight). I'm also pretty sure that as bad as Jon Barry's knees might be, he would shoot a better percentage from threes with nobody guarding him (than the Rockets' 2 for 11 shooting from long range). The problem with this team is very simple: they suck on offense. And what did Jeff Van Gundy do to fix it (I don't consider CD as the real decision maker on the team)? He let go all the role players on this team that had the slightest resemblance of an offensive game. Without Tracy Mcgrady, this team simply does not have enough talents on offense to put up 90 points a game, and that is not just good enough to win in the NBA. I think that it is time the Rockets have a serious dicussion about the direction of the team. A team built around last century's basketball philosophy simply can not win in today's NBA.
Wang Zhi Zhi. A PF with good three point capability. But noboday knows what he is doing now. If he still can play like when he was with Mavericks, he should be way better than Juwan, Swift, and Bogans (1/17, unbelievable)
If Yao Ming continues to average 29 points a game for the rest of our season he will average 24.0 points per game. Would he be the most improved player?
I like Alston, but I don't think he is a championship caliber PG...he has the talent, yes, but he doesn't have the IQ or understanding that a less talented player like Derek Fisher has. Case in point, with the Rox down 12 for several minutes in the 4th they go into Yao who establishes deep position, goes up and gets fouled...makes both throws to pull them within 10. The Rox put up a nice defensive stand and come back on offense down 10 with an opportunity to cut the lead down to single digits and gain some momentum. Yao once again seals his man deep in the paint, where he has been automatic the entire game...but Rafer decides not to pass him the ball and instead takes it himself and misses. Nets rebound and go the other way for a 3point play and the game is essentially over. VG should have pulled his ass right there...I just don't understand the mentality to bail out the opponents by not going to your bread and butter WHENEVER possible.
Alston has totally lost his stroke. His jumper doesn't even resemble the jumper he had in Miami. He needs a shooting coach desparately. Too many hitches and way too much arm and not enough legs. Horrid. And his defense is way bad. I agree, I think he's our future backup PG. Hopefully Spanoulis will develop quickly at this level.
Is the Rockets/Mavericks game still dropped from ESPN like someone posted last week? because the game is still starting at 8pm
I would take these 2 guys (Scott Padgett and Bostjan Nachbar) back with no blink for the eyes for some of the current brick-laying scrubs/team mates of Yao Ming
Bogans needs to shoot 2000 jumpers a day during the offseason if he's gonna even compete for the starting SG position next year. And we've got to get a 4, plain and simple. Right now, we don't have a single one. Stro's effort tonight was way lacking. Juwan, well, he was just Juwan, the worst starting PF in the league.
You made some valid points, but man you've got to be kidding. Alston hasn't even played half a season with T-Mac and Yao on the court at the same time. Alston's shooting has been horrible admittedly, but he's still the best pg we've had here in a looong while. But I guess Kenny Smith was a championship pg. So was Sam who never started in championship season. This bbs gets so overwrought it's incredible. We need 8 guys together for at least one year to have the slightest chance at a ring - even if T-Mac were healthy. Do you think that's going to happen? Or do you think role players should gel with teammates within - oh say six months and then get killed in the 1st round of the playoffs? This whole bbs bummed me out tonight much more than the loss...
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/recap;_ylt=Audronk0AJledWY8khRCe4s5nYcB?gid=2006031310 Yao blamed the loss on Houston's defense more than the bad shooting. "Our team is a defensive team and I think in the last two games, we haven't been defending well," he said. "We need to focus on our defensive game." ------------------- Yao is now officially as sick as JVG. You scored 77 and 81 last two games and you blame it on defense? So our team ultimate goal is to limit opponent's score to 75 so that we will have a chance to win? This team is hopeless.
*Sigh* We don't have the role players to be a championship team. Right now, we don't have the role players to be a playoff team. That, and the fact that our 2 stars have missed a significant amount of games due to injury. This season was never meant to go anywhere, I guess. We're not out of it yet, keep fighting. Go Rockets.
Someone posted last week or so that ESPN had dropped 2 Rockets game but I still see the listing for the Rocket's game this Wed on ESPN and starting at 8pm. Can someone confirm this?
Alston is the PG houston's been looking for. He's a pass first pg and he *mostly* makes good decisons on the court. I think he gets rattled at times but we all knew that he was an emotional guy before he got here. When we're firing on all cylinders, Alston gives you 13-14 ppg and 8+ assists a night. When's the last time we had someone get that many assists? All he needs to do this summer is work on shooting 3s. Our problems lie elsewhere...i.e. everyone not named Yao, McGrady, and Alston. We STILL have a hole at the 4 and now most of our shooters are gone. IMO, our PG spot HAS been shored up. Alston's no Sura, but then again Sura couldn't feed the post either.
I just thought amid all the dissapointment and heartbreaks, I should post those here to cheer people up. They are pretty funny in my opinion http://cn.sports.yahoo.com/060205/324/288ze.html Yao using his brain to steal arrows from his enemy http://cn.sports.yahoo.com/060220/324/28b4l.html And I have no idea what this is, but it is pretty funny
I don't think that's the mind-set Yao has. It's about do what you (are supposed to) do best and let the business take care of itself. If you do well on defense, it will help your offense, vice versa. If you rely on getting your opponents' score under 75 to win, it's like you rely on scoring 110+ pts every game to win. Both are highly unlikely.
