The NY media loves to tease Deron...lol at the headline... but the writer did a balance report of the game

Jeremy Lin has last laugh against ejected Deron Williams as Houston Rockets top Brooklyn Nets

HOUSTON — In a frustrating final quarter, Deron Williams found himself lying on the court after a turnover, watching another fast-break dunk from the Rockets. He found himself with a hand in Jeremy Lin’s face, and then with a look of exasperation after watching Lin’s 3-pointer fall through the net.

Williams played the best first quarter of any Net this season. But his night ended in anger and silence, with Lin as the victor, and Williams walking off the court with 67 seconds remaining in a 119-106 defeat, having been ejected for arguing with the referee.

Williams declined to talk to the media after the game, leaving his coach to explain what occurred with official David Jones.

“The referee said Deron said something to him and he threw him out,” P.J. Carlesimo said.

Lin, who dominated the Knicks in December, scored eight of his 14 points during a three-minute stretch of the fourth quarter, dictating the pace against the slower, older Nets.

His final line (14 points, nine assists, five rebounds and six turnovers) wasn’t as impressive as Williams’ (27 points, 11 assists on 10-of-15 shooting), but he had the help of James Harden (29 points) and Omer Asik (20).

Lin also was better down the stretch.

“I thought we were definitely the faster team out there,” Lin said. “I think we’re younger and play with more pace. (The Nets) are pretty far down in the pace rankings because they do a lot of isolations and post-ups.”

The Nets (26-18) have lost two straight for the first time under Carlesimo, finishing their road trip 2-2 after it began with an impressive win at the Garden.

Williams came out with a purpose, scoring or assisting on Brooklyn’s first 22 points. He finished the first quarter with 20 points, hitting all seven of his shots. It was the most points in a quarter for a Brooklyn player all season.

Most of Williams’ early work was against Lin.

“You just hope it doesn’t last the whole game,” Lin said.

It didn’t. Williams appeared to turn his ankle with 10 minutes left in the second quarter. He returned without the same groove, and the Nets suffered.

The Rockets (24-22) went on a 25-6 run to open the second quarter. They outscored the Nets in the paint in the first half 32-6.

After Friday’s debacle in Memphis, Brooklyn’s transition defense was again substandard in Houston.

“I don’t know, maybe we were a step slow,” said Brook Lopez, who finished with 21 points with seven rebounds.

Joe Johnson struggled for a third straight game, scoring just 13 points on 14 shots.

But the marquee matchup was at point guard. Even before Saturday, Lin and Williams had had signature moments against one another. Linsanity in New York was started against Williams and the Nets last Feb. 4. Sixteen days later, a motivated Williams took the rematch personally — scoring 38 points in a victory at the Garden.

Lin said his history with Williams wasn’t a factor Saturday — “I’m well past that,” he said.

But Williams wasn’t in the mood to provide any opinion or explanation.

“Maybe (it was frustration),” Johnson said. “He was attacking all night and really not getting calls so I can understand where he’s coming from. It happens from time to time. You get frustrated and lose your cool. It happens.”

They had one really good quote that I remembered...
When Watson crashed into Lin trying to do some sort of Euro-step, they said that's the Euro Charge!

    I laughed very loudly.

The lower bowl is predominantly seats held by businesses. Because of this attendance is hit or miss in that area. Some are late and don't care about the game because their talking business. Some are in the bars in the arena doing the same. I'd be more interested to hear the gate numbers and not tickets sold.

Dexler officially named Asik's dunk "vanilla shake" .

Please correct if I am mistaken.

I appreciate your calm and clear analysis of how Lin and Harden have contributed to the team's winning in their different ways. This will help prevent a lot of meaningless arguments on the forum in the future, since a lot of the arguments I saw in the past were really comparing apple with orange, or simply double standards. I enjoy reading civilized debates backed up by solid data or evidences.

It's better for Lin and Harden to play at the same time because if if works, they could be the most dangerous backcourt duo in the league, and it will be great fun to watch the entire team play happy basketball. That Harden asking Lin to have the ball tonight is a great beginning of a new era for the Rockets.

From my observation of Rondo, I can't help feeling some times that he is more interested in padding his own stats and get a big contract than giving his all to help his team win. But then this could be just my feelings.

Yup, otherwise known as hockey assists. :) If Lin has high turnovers but team turnovers go down, I can live with that. He still should work on reducing them though.

Dwill's problem is that by avoiding the issue, he's just giving the writers more to spin.

For example, after Lin beat the Lakers last year, Kobe gave him praise and diffused the situation. After that, the writers can't really spin it anymore. Kobe's smart that way. For example, when they asked him about the Clippers, he gave them praise and that was that.

So by continuing to act angry, it just lets the writers have more fun with the situation.

They didn't stop at the headline for tweaking... caption of the picture that goes with the article "Deron Williams... retreats from Toney Douglas"

Considering the NY area opinion of Toney Douglas, that's hitting below the belt. Also doesn't look like that's what's happening in the picture.

Deron Williams hasn't been close to an elite PG in2 years...can't understand why people still think so.

He said it himself, that he is a system guy.

I don't like him. Give me Nash, a traditional Pg . But I will say this, he has always had the back of his teammates. Troubles began arising in mormonville when guys he played with where being traded. He is a leader.

I've hated Deron Williams ever since the Jazz beat the Rockets in the playoffs in 2007. I hated him then b/c he was good and had that hateable face.

    I hate him now b/c he's an irresponsible coach-killer and petty grudge-holder.

Deron is one of my least favorite players in the league. Really can't stand him.

But even I feel sorry for him here. The NY media is just ridiculous.

McHale, Rockets lovin' Lin - I Really hope so.

“In anybody’s career, you spend time playing on the ceiling and playing on the floor, where in reality where you’re at is somewhere in between there,” the Rockets coach said of Lin, who had 14 points, nine assists and five rebounds in last night’s 119-106 win over the Nets. “You saw somebody playing on the ceiling, and that’s not realistic. I think sometimes that follows him a little bit too much. ... I think he’s doing a good job for a young guy. He’s been doing great.”
