good post, though i wouldn't call putting tmac on dirk "genius". we did it a couple years ago in the playoffs, and everyone should know that tmac is the only one on our team who can actually guard dirk (chuck hayes guarding dirk is an automatic jumper or foul).

tmac, when he wants to be, is actually one of the best defenders in the league with his length and athleticism. unfortunately with yao out, he has to create all our offense, so he's gotta take an easier defensive assignment to conserve his energy.

unfortunately, yao coming back isn't going to make rafer or luther better decision makers, and i can see their breaking down in the clutch (esp in the playoffs) being our downfall. i pray that tmac and yao won't let that happen.

YES, head is no pg. can't drive. when he plays pg. bad thing happened. he's like a blackhole, no penetration, no distribution, many turnover. like a ballhog even though he might not intend it. V-Span may be not a good shooter, but he can draw the foul and hit the ft. Give V-span 10 minite, he'll make different. Strict 8-player rotation just looks not right.

I agree with you. First when i saw they put T-Mac on Dirk i was scared. I thou it was not going to work, but T-Mac did a great job. He was near the steal, and Nowitzki couldn't shooot easy jumpers or score the ball. That was good idea, but Van Gundy did it too late i think, but T-Mac becomes to be a very good defennder on the post.

Rockets just need a 9-man V-Span to play 5-10 minutes to over Mavs. Man, it is 1-point different only from loss to win.

Rockets just always need 2 ballhandlers on the ground. Head not one of them.

Leave Rafer alone! He's not the reason we lost the game.

who's sam cassel? if you want to win the WC, you need not only the best player like MJ, shaq, defense stopper such as bowen, but also you need to be luck to get some cheap guys like rodman and sam either because they are trouble makers or they are rookies. ROckets got them, named bonzi, snyder and Erou-kobe. It's up to coach to use them. It is a risk a WC team must take.

L.H. is no ballhog, but he can't pass. when he pass, more likely a turnover. so he had to drive, take bad shot. balme on JVG, he made L.H. be the backup pg. I support JVG a lot, but Rockets need a true backup pg who only need play 10 minutes mostly.

LOL - outcoached? The Rockets just played the best team in the league minus Yao. They kept the pace down, held the mavericks to low points and %, and had the chance to win at the end.

The failures (missed FT's, inabiilty to hit shots at the end) weren't due to coaching.

PS - hilarious that this is now a spanoulis thread. That's what his fan club does after every single game, win or lose, rain or shine.

    I mistyped...

I didn't mean to say that putting T-Mac on Dirk was a genius move. I meant it was smart. Genius is a bit much even for my boyfriend.

The lose can be explained as simple as this: Terry hits his open shot and Head missed 2 at the clutch.

Defense compromises offense. e.g. JHo missed 2 FTs, too tired to throw. ;)
When T-mac and Dirk were locked, scrubs determined the win. Terry made the shot, Head could not. :(

We always complains of our scrubs, but not give credits to Dallas. Head plays well against other teams but not the Dallas, or possibly NO or Denver. Why? They did a good defense on Head.

Maybe JVG should not use Head at Clutch if he learned lessons from previous matchup. Penetration to create foul like Wade could be a better solution than open shot, given Dallas was doubling T-mac. We do not have wade, but we have Snyder. Question is: Were JVG creative enough to play Snyder in the Clutch? Head is not the answer at clutch for Dallas, period.
